15 yr cube farmer, and desk jockey. I walk during my breaks, inside if the weather is bad, outside if not. I also get up and take a quick walk when I get stressed (Stupid customer/computer/coworker) to calm my brain. And little trips to the restroom/break room... I can either take a beeline to it, or take a longer route...…

If I walk a mile in 20 minutes I burn around 120 cals. If I run a mile in 10 minutes I burn around 140 cals, and then I burn around 9 cals standing around waiting for the I that walked to get there. But as folks advised, ease into running. Try something like Couch to 5k (C25K), or if you have a smartphone I loved using the…

My short walk around the little block with my dog, done 3 times a day, is around 1200 steps each time. So, that is 3600. It is close to 900 steps, and 3 flights, from my desk to where I park my car, so another 1800. It is about 800 steps, and 3 flights, to the lunchroom, so another 1600. So there is 7000 without trying to…

This seems a tad off, as 1% of 200lbs is 2lbs... so you are saying that a person at 200lbs, say 6' tall, in reasonable shape, could do a 1000cal a day deficit. I am 5'9" and around 190lbs... and I think at around 18% body fat.

What singingflutelady said ... The best way I found to compare was clothing. Belts never lie, while a tight pair of pants and shirt, tried on every month at about the same part of the month, will give you a great idea of changes. Also try to use one of the body fat calipers (I like the Accu-Measure ones). Don't worry about…

If you are someone who is going to the gym just to get in shape/lose weight, Planet Fitness is great. If you are new to going to the gym, Planet Fitness is great. If you are not using all the weights in a 310lb oly weight kit, Planet Fitness is great. If you like to get a tan, Planet Fitness is great. If you want a place…

Fitbit offers a sizing tool (I think it is a pdf with a printable tape measure), as does Jawbone. On the Fitbit ChargeHR the XL size (only available online) goes from 7.6"-9.1". Works with MFP, and iPhones & Macs. http://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/About-Fitbit-Charge-HR The Jawbone UP3&4 Large size goes…

Fellrnr does ultramarathons, and lots of product reviews, because he can... http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Best_Running_Watch He covers price, causal vs marathon vs ultramarathon use, features they have, accuracy, etc. He even retest them after they get software updates. Personally, I just use my phone. 95% of the time it works…

A big thing is "how do you dance". I know from my bits at Ren Faires where I spend most of the day standing in front of our shop dancing/swaying back and forth, I don't lift my feet so I wouldn't get credit for steps. At the time I was using a Bodymedia which used other ways to figure out energy burned, so I have days with…

If the only goal is for the scale to say a number, then 100% cardio is the way to go. If you'd like to have some muscle to show when you strip off the fat, then a combo of the 2 is the way to go. And don't try and stay at 1200cals while doing either version. Eat back some of the cals that you burn, otherwise you start…

At this point I am thinking either Fitbit Charge HR or the UP3...and letting the number of folks I know with a fitbit influence my thinking. Also, I kind of like the idea of being able to get the time, and some data, without having to pull out my phone, plus getting my heart rate while workingout, rather than just once a…

http://www.bradleywell.com/doc/Page.asp?PageID=DOC000365 "Claude Bouchard, an obesity researcher from the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, who revealed that a pound of muscle, at rest, burns about six calories per day (and a pound of fat burns about two)." "Sedentary muscle appears to burn about 5.7 to 5.9 calories…

Then don't do them. Do some other form that you find fun and exciting. Treadmill puts me to sleep. Same for the other indoor cardio stuff you listed. But I can go outside and run, and enjoy it. Changing environment, changing views, and then for fun I use the Zombies, Run! app, so I am in a story, and occasionally have to…

My scale at home will tell me I am at one thing, I get off of it, I get back on it....BAM! I have gained or lost body fat! Sometimes 5% or more.

Here is a nice example, Staci Ardison, who fits near your height (5'4"), of going from 170 to 117-131-142...and adding muscle and strength to do it. http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/ Slightly more recent is her at 150…

This is Fellrnr. He does ultra marathons, and like to keep trying new things out, and then writing the info up. I think it gives him something to do while running on a treadmill for hours at a time. http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Shoes Any time they are telling you "just a half marathon to go" more than 3/4 of the way through the…

I've never used It Works products...instead I used a competitors product. Assuming you are talking about the wrap stuff. If they have anything else, I've never heard of it. It worked...on a very limited time basis. So, if you are looking to lose a couple of inches for 2-3 days, say you got a class reunion, wedding, really…

This guy is into ultra marathons, and does reviews on shoes...as well as everything else running. http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Shoes I love that he cuts shoes in half to shoe you what they are made of. Also if you click on the price in the review it will take you to a site that looks for the cheapest prices for that item on the…

I found that the thing I trusted most was my clothing. I had a pair of pants that fit tight, a tshirt that was snug, and a belt I was on the very last hole on the big side. No real way to fake how they fit, or worry that I might not have them in the right place. Put them on at least once a month (OK, the belt was daily),…

Answer seems to be no. Mainly, cardio doesn't do a good job of adding on muscle, unless you are doing something really intense like pedaling a bike up mountains...which is more hard physical muscle based work than plain cardio. Now, if you are lifting heavy (by which we mean you are straining to finish off your last rep,…

Pretzel crusted chicken breast, Carolina coleslaw, baby carrots, and coffee. Call it about 950cals. Too late for pics as I just got back from the lunch room.

Those new to lifting heavy/formerly sedentary types will experience their fastest muscle gains, and will often gain lean body mass while losing fat. At the bottom is links to studies: http://muscleevo.net/lose-fat-gain-muscle/ and then this one: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3519021&d=1310193169

Currently about 1/2 way through "The Foul Mouth and the Fanged Lady" (The King Henry Tapes series)... About the same through "Wind Rider's Oath" (WarGod series)... And 3/4 through "Savage Homecoming" (Omega Force series)... And several other random short story collections.

The best thing I found to encourage me was a pair of pants that fit just a little too tight, and my belt. After a while the pants got loser and loser, the belt started needing to be put in different holes. Now the pants have been sent to Goodwill, and replaced with something new, and the belt needed a new hole put in it.…

Those silly wrap things...this is what they are for. The wife used me as a practice dummy, I lost like 1.75" off my tummy, and it took 3 days before it came back. They are great for weddings, vacations, school reunions, those special photo shoots, or anniversaries...but that is about it.

...as Seen On TV! But wait, if you act now, we will also throw in a Thigh Master rumored to once have been in the same building as Suzanne Somers!

The New Rules of Lifting for Women book might be of use to you. Also, I'd suggest checking out Fitocracy. It is like MFP, but for working out. Lots of people over there with lots of useful advice, and you can see what other peoples workouts look like.
