I have a friend who is 2 years older, about 1' taller (5'9" to 5'10"), and weighs about 5lbs less then me. So, he is taller and lighter, so obviously he is thinner, right? I have less body fat (a little under 20%), and more muscle. He still has a round belly (around 25%). Obviously I weigh more because of the muscle,…

No need to adjust them unless you want to. They are merely a way for you to get notice when you get your activity level up to a certain level. A friend is recovering from a heart attack, and is obese. She is pushing it to walk at 1.2mph for 20 minutes on a treadmill...so she has her METs set really low (I think her…

All living humans are constantly burning cals. An average number would be 50/hr while sleeping. Bigger people, higher number. Smaller people, lower number. You got up and moved. This ups your numbers. Once again, bigger higher, smaller lower. In your case, you have found a way to burn calories that is fun...hence it…

And as goal, rather than a time, set yourself a distance to jog. It makes you jog faster, and you will burn almost the same calories walking, jogging, or running a set distance, so all you are modifying is the time. And it is easier to tell yourself to really push that last bit when you know the faster you go the sooner…

Here is the big thing...do not be afraid of adjusting your calorie numbers. Every month look and see if you think you are getting too fat, or not gaining weight fast enough. Calorie burns in real life (vs being monitored in a lab) are just guesses. This includes all of the online calculators. Some of us have more…

Gives you 2847cals a day, made up of 59% carbs, 21% protein, 20% fat. If that is what you are aiming for, then your math is correct.

So, if on Monday I write down in my checkbook that I will get paid $500 at the end of the week, but then on Friday I only get paid $300, because I didn't make it to work for 2 days....do you think I should leave my checkbook saying I got paid $500? Data is only useful if it is accurate.

I am on there, same name, and XJenX is the main mod of there, and can always point you towards the right answer.

OK, here is the thing.... If you do the 1200 cal version, and lose 2lbs a week for 8 weeks, and hit your goal....then what? Do you go right back to eating the way that caused you to need to lose that 15lbs...because you sure didn't learn how not to do that. So, if a lifetime of yoyo dieting, signing back in here every 6-8…

As to how... Lots of folks love New Rules of lifting for Women. Simple review: http://www.prettylittlegrub.com/2013/12/17/new-rules-of-lifting-for-women-stage-one/ Also, I reccomend checking out Fitocracy, which is a site like MFP, but designed for working out, and has lots of folks willing to give advice, workout plans,…

The simple answer is now. Your goal is to lose fat, right? 50lbs of fat. So why would you be happy losing muscle at the same time? Wouldn't that mean you need to lose even more total weight to finally be rid of that 50lbs of fat? Start lifting now, and have some nice muscle to show off when the fat quilt gets pulled off.…

The electronic gizmos are touchy. If you have eaten or drank in the 4hrs or so before, if you have done some exercise before hand (Such as a 5 min warm up)...these things can send the reading up or down. The calipers...if you don't test fairly close to the same spot each time you can get totally different reading in…

When you set you account up, how much did you tell MFP that you want to lose each week? 2lbs = 1,000 cal/day deficit, 1.5lbs = 750 cal/day deficit 1.0lbs = 500 cal/day deficit 0.5lbs = 250 cal/day deficit So 1820 + what ever deficit you told it to give you = what MFP estimates you burn in a day based off what activity…

steak, coffee and bacon. Fixed it for you.

Check out Kane Sumabat on google. He eats 1-2 dozen Krispy Kremes a week because he likes them. Does not seem to have impacted his workouts. Or as Jason Momoa told me, "Save your carbs for the Guinness". And then check out lots of folks doing IIFYM. Of course the big thing for all of them is they are aware of what they are…

I almost feel like you cut and pasted some of my comments on earlier threads. I lost 20ish lbs doing a bunch of cardio/high rep low weight stuff at 1350cals, and then started doing 5x5 and slowly eating more (1500, 1700, 1800, 2000, and now 2500) over the next 6 months. During that time I lost another 5 lbs over the first…

If you eat 3000 cals of food, does it matter if they came from "clean" food, or "dirty" food? Does your body say "Clean, so it doesn't count. Clean...clean...clean...Oh, that bite there is dirty, so full count on it. Clean...clean...DIRTY!"? Maybe this might explain it better: Counting is science, while eating anything you…

Parking...one of the things the new owners are going to be looking at, as we doubled last years attendance numbers, and know we can get more people easily, as the St. C County Faire (in the same same park) has about 18,000 per day compared to our 6,000. I am expecting shuttles. As to the deep fried...they deliver the stuff…

Most the folks trying to add muscle aim for around 1gram of protein per lb of body weight, or more. http://stronglifts.com/5x5/ That is 5x5 of working weight...warm ups are additional. If you feel like you can do more, and want to add on to it, there are tons of ab/core exercises to target that area.

That is what I think is wrong with the current world diet.... it is based on a world were we don't drive everywhere, don't have machines to make it all easier. We used to think nothing of walking to the store, and carrying a couple of big paper bags back. But at the same time, I see a lot of farmers who are obese when I…

Calorie surplus = Eating more calories than you burn. The opposite of trying to lose weight. HIIT = High-intensity interval training http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-intensity_interval_training Bodyweight progressions = Doing different body weight (Nothing but your body) execises as you get stronger... For example doing…

Is it covered with fat now? Will removing the fat make it smaller? You will likely add some muscle on if you are currently pretty much inactive, but that is most likely going to be way way less than all the fat that comes off. The little bit of muscle you will add will make it look round & firm, and less like a pancake.

And be sure and check out his comments about GPS accuracy: http://fellrnr.com/wiki/GPS_Accuracy As there is nothing like having the GPS tell you that you ran off a cliff, through 3 houses, and ran 1/2 a mile less than you actually did.

Fellrnr is an ultra marathoner who spends lots of time and money reviewing running gear, as well as telling people how he trains for 100 mile runs. http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Best_Running_Watch

I remember people complaining when it hit $1, and $2, and $3, and $4 "I can't afford this"...and yet they keep driving. Cars keep getting better fuel mileage, so price to travel a mile goes down...and really should be the thing people talk about. Guy at work was driving a huge SUV, got 18mpg, and it burned a gallon each…

Cardio is your friend. It doesn't matter which version you do, as long as it is something you enjoy, as that means you are less likely to get bored and skip it. Some people run, some walk, some ride bikes, some row, some do Zumba, some do PX90, some do kickboxing classes. None of them are wrong. Also, lift weights. Lift…

Years ago fewer people were fat. Of course years ago we walked more (corner stores, parks, fewer elevators & escalators), worked more physically (Even the typing pool got a better daily workout then me sitting at a computer all day), and spent less time using machines/pre-processed stuff in the kitchen. As tech spreads, so…

So what you are saying is that these are actually a negative calorie food, as I know I am going to burn more cals then that cooking them . Oh wait...I don't cook...OK, while I watch my wife cook these. I can never stand still while in the kitchen.
