Salads with dressing on the side, is probably your best choice, or grilled chicken wraps, or burgers on lettuce beds (a personal fav.) For alcohol, your best choice for low-calorie is shots or hard liquor with zero-calorie mixers.

Yes, you should set your protein goal at at least 1g per lb of lean body mass. It's better to overshoot than undershoot, when possible.
-
Protein is important to prevent the loss of lean muscle mass. In a caloric deficit, your body does not only utilize fat stores for energy (if only!) but it also breaks down lean body mass which is what leads to so many people being "skinny fat" or reaching their "goal weight" without having their goal body. You want to…

TL;DR starvation mode isn't easy to get into but you can really harm your health if you consistently undereat namaste

wow you guys have some really cool tattoos!! i only have two so far. Tattoo I got when my dog passed away. My first one, from the song She's My Winona - Fall Out Boy.

I started on NROL - I'm on stage 3 - and I actually really like it. It *is* a little complicated but I think it's really comprehensive. The first stage is 6-8 weeks of the same two workouts so that you start to really understand how lifting feels and how to gauge what you can and can't do and that makes it a little easier…

I always satisfy my sweet tooth with a protein shake. My favorite dessert is a chocolate milkshake, so blending a cold banana, a cup of icy skim milk and a big scoop of chocolate whey... mm, always satisfies, never disappoints. At home I'll probably have a constant supply of that super un-clean, non-fat sugar-free frozen…

You're going to gain it back. It's definitely mostly water weight. However, your body has been running at a deficit and has almost certainly utilized other sources of energy to keep you alive and fighting that stomach bug. If you watch your intake as you start to feel better, you might have some kind of net loss - maybe a…

"Legitimate" isn't a useful word here. All movement burns calories. All movement that you wouldn't have done otherwise burns more calories than you would have otherwise. Walking is a great place to start, but it is necessary that you challenge yourself going forward. As it gets easier, walk faster, or farther, or up a…

I feel you. I'm graduating in a few weeks and I must say I picked up some terrible skills in college - I can make ANYTHING in a microwave, from chicken to cake, and I even bought a scooter to not have to walk up and down hills on campus. Tips for a newbie: 1. Water is more important than you think 2. Warm up, then stretch…

First of all, it's absolutely possible to eat out and stay within your goals. I live on campus and very rarely make food for myself. My diet consists very largely of fast food, chinese, sushi, mac and cheese, and deli meats and I am losing weight and getting healthier! Secondly, if this is a holiday that's special to you -…

Since emotional eating is tied to so many things, you're probably going to have to try a few methods before you figure out something that works for you. Be patient and try not to get frustrated! Here's a few ideas: - Designate something that you consume when you are upset that makes you feel better. For me, it's diet soda.…

Have a protein shake! I mean honestly... what's better than a milkshake at night? Try protein powder, skim milk, and nonfat greek yogurt... maybe freeze the yogurt or add in some frozen fruit. Actually, just having greek yogurt works too. I've never been a big fan of eating meat alone but if you've got shrimp and sauce…

It's broken down and used for energy... basically, it becomes heat. Waste products are excreted how they always are - exhalation (CO2), sweat, urine, feces. It's actually E = mc^2, or in this case mass = E/c^2.
-
Then why argue it should be different at higher levels of management? How is it that you came to the conclusion customers who want to know how many calories they're consuming are "lazy" and "demanding"? If the customers demand it, businesses should invest the money in posting proper nutrition facts, or they will fail. It's…

I won't eat at any restaurant that doesn't tell me what is in their food, because I believe strongly in my right to be informed. I imagine anyone with any kind of restricted diet or food allergy would feel the same. I wasn't arguing that the regulations need to be there. I was arguing against the idea that people shouldn't…

"Businesses should be less convenient for customers. Customers are lazy." "All healthy food sounds the same - dieters should just order dry grilled chicken salads all the time." You have no concept of how a business market is supposed to work and frankly, you seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of what a…

You can't honestly tell me you're arguing that the success of a business is more important than the right of people to know what they are putting in their bodies. Businesses are supposed to be somewhat transparent because the CUSTOMERS decide whether they succeed or fail. If customers see the nutrition facts and choose to…

Hokay so here's a few things! I would say you are MODERATELY active. You're more than lightly active just from being up at your job. You are eating too little. I don't know how tall you are, but I can almost guarantee your BMR is higher than 1400 calories. You can calculate that here:…

GREEK YOGURT. Greek yogurt instead of part of mayo in chicken salad/egg salad/tuna salad/whatever salad. Greek yogurt instead of milk and butter in macaroni and cheese (or basically anything requiring milk and butter.) Frozen greek yogurt instead of ice cream... not really a cooking substitution but useful nonetheless. And…

Eat them. Remain in your calorie limits. If it is impossible to treat yourself, your diet is too strict.
-
You're not even allowed to do that here. We're not qualified to discuss or promote VLCD. It's important to eat enough to fuel your body. For a simple place to start, you can calculate your BMR here: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ and use that as your MINIMUM net calorie level.
-
This. Sounds like you have an active job and should be eating more than 1800 calories. I think if you do this, you'll find you've been undereating quite a lot.

Pizza really isn't that bad for you! The problem is that /good/ pizza is greasy and cheesy. At my school they make 10" personal pizzas, the regular "marguerite" one is 600 calories for the whole thing... totally doable. I can totally eat a whole pizza.

You've outdone yourself with this post. It's really well-organized and informative. More importantly though, people don't realize how CRUCIAL this part of switching to a healthier lifestyle is. They set themselves on a weight they want to be without considering body composition, and then they either get frustrated when the…

I lifted when I had a cold recently, but I didn't have a fever. I read that if your sickness is in your neck of above, it's okay to work out, but to avoid working out when you are sick in your chest or stomach. That makes sense to me. The fever does change things, but I imagine it's okay to lift if you're not /feeling/…

There's very little anyone can tell you that isn't in that link. It's VERY comprehensive. But the bottom line is, you should definitely be eating back your exercise calories. 1700 is a low goal... I'm losing weight on 1700 NET calories a day, and I was only 135lbs to begin with. I see from your ticker you have less than…

Okay OP I'm going to blow your mind here: your weight is meaningless. All that number tells you is what your relationship is with gravity. It would be totally different somewhere else. It means nothing in water. Weight... isn't really all it's cracked up to be. I imagine there's something happening in 40 days that makes…

Protein powder is the way to go. It's quick, it's convenient, it goes in other things you're already eating, and some of them are pretty darn tasty. If you're into shakes and smoothies, get yourself a basic chocolate or vanilla (or both). Blend with the milk of your choice and some yummy fruit or another mix-in. Yesterday…

A meringue is a great option and I fully support that idea. Any whipped cream will due if it's applied right before serving... the air will take care of most of the calories. You can even make it yourself with whatever extracts you want by simply... whipping some cream. I also came in here to suggest cream cheese frosting.…
