Regarding your whole post, I think you have a good point about the grass is always greener. Additionally, you never know what’s going on behind closed doors but as far as I can tell everyone is very happy in their family units. Not that I don’t want them to be happy, it just makes my envy even worse. I do have those days…

I have an Alta HR. The steps are pretty accurate except it does count some steps while driving. The sleep tracking however is useless as it’s never accurate or even close.

I usually don’t do this but I’m at lunch by myself right now (sit down restaurant) but don’t think I could do dinner alone in a restaurant on a Saturday night. I may need to though because I want to start traveling more and am tired of waiting for someone to go with so I may venture by myself.

Kids shouldn’t be an excuse to bail on commitments and plans made unless it’s unforeseen circumstances. That being said, we’re talking about cancelling plans on multiple occasions, not just a one time thing.

Yes, I forgot to mention all the packaging and garbage. I just made another dinner tonight and it was okay. The cook time was way off and I had a lot of clean up. I'm searching for the middle ground between fast food/processed food and 100% from scratch whole food.

I don't run, have high arches and it hurts all the time to walk no matter what shoe I'm in.

I saw a podiatrist and am following his instructions but not getting better. Haven't gone the custom orthotics route yet because I've heard they don't help much. I thought going barefoot was the worst possible thing you could do. So much conflicting information out there.

I'm trying to do mostly plant based for breakfast and lunch but just can't get there with dinner. Additionally, I find it really difficult to be plant based and lower carbs. I need to do low/moderate carbs for insulin resistance so it's been a challenge but I figure even if I can make some changes it's better than nothing.

Thank you both. I think I do a pretty good job of weighing, measuring and tracking so I don't think that's the problem. I'm pretty sedentary now so I think my BMR and TDEE are much lower than calculated. The MFP calculations just don't work for bigger folks. I'm currently at 1700 calories a day and may drop a bit. Instead of giving it up completely why not just try cutting back? Treat it like any other food, moderation. I have one diet coke a day so I know if I'm having pizza or something I usually drink soda with I'll save it for that meal and have water the rest of the day. I didn't eat the pizza last night but will go through the whole torturous event again later for dinner. My ultimate goal is to be able to eat whatever I want in moderation and not have it be a struggle.

Thanks for all the spice tips, that's great! My soup turned out good but the tortellini and all the vegetables soaked up the liquid so I guess I'm going to have to add more stock when heating it up. The ground spices worked well. Overall, my soup attempt wasn't a disaster so I'm happy!
