I found an awesome doctor recently and switched to him because he practices "proactive medicine." My standard physical included a DEXA scan and meeting with a dietician. (I wanted these things because I'm at--or a little under--goal, so I was also looking for a new plan too.) The dietician recommended 40% carbs, 30% fat,…

While everyone chooses for themselves how often to weigh in. This is part of why I do it every day (and I don't get upset by slight ups and downs). I lost 50 pounds about 10 years ago, and only started regaining when I got out of the daily weighing habit. Thankfully, I still caught myself early. I believe most people on…

Maybe check with your county human services. Sometimes they offer nutrition counseling/wellness programs.

Congratulations!! That is amazing achievement!

After watching all of the popular documentaries on this, my husband and I tried being vegan for about six weeks a couple of years ago. It went really well overall, though I have to applaud him for even trying since he LOVES meat. It's not something he decided to stick with, even though he acknowledged that he felt better.…

I'm actually just reading this book now, and I could swear the author actually says that women should expect only about a 0.5 pounds of muscle gain per month--typically accompanied by an equal amount of fat. i know this stood out to me as I read it because I kind of want to gain a bit of weight (possibly both fat and…

I like these: http://www.naturesplus.com/products/productdetail.php?productNumber=30711 Gluten free, and my husband said he noticed a difference when he was taking them too. Not cheap though... $30 - $45 per month for one person

I'm transitioning to maintenance too. I went to a doctor and dietician who told me to do 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat. The biggest change since losing is decreasing carbs, and increasing fat. Having these goals has helped me to make healthier choices vs just hitting a calorie goal. I suppose I could still eat junk to…

This actually happened to me last week! Based on some medical results and additional medical info that I hadn't shared with my new doctor yet, I got REALLY nervous about my health and what I might have done to impact it. Just like you, I kept reminding myself that I'd lost my weight in a really healthy way, but I couldn't…

I don't consider it a cheat day/meal at all. I consider it finding balance. If I splurge on a weekend, Mon-Wed may be spent recovering from that. But that doesn't mean I have to restrict myself dramatically or anything. Just enjoy sometimes and be good most others.

Congrats! I actually changed my ultimate goal weight quite a bit before settling in where I am. I started with a goal of losing 19 pounds, and it ended up being 46! So yes, as weight came off, I realized that I could somewhat easily take things farther. Now I'm really happy where I am, I mostly have just some spots of…

I'm also transitioning to maintenance--hit goal a week or so ago. I increased my daily goal by 100 last week. Tomorrow, I'll increase another 100 for the upcoming week. Will do the same next Monday, and so on until I find maintenance. I expect to continue to lose a bit more this way, but I think it's the best way for me to…

I tried it several years ago, and I would not recommend it. The bathroom wasn't so much a problem--as long as you eat under the limits on fat per meal, you should be fine. (I think that's really all it did for me was force me to limit my eating to avoid any bathroom issues.) But what it did was cause huge deep acne/cysts…

I didn't have any luck finding clothes at a second hand store, so if you have to go with new, I would just recommend not getting a lot. I changed my ultimate goal weight a few times. A few months ago, I thought I was nearly done, and I found some jeans/pants I loved. I bought 5 pairs (3 jeans, black cords, and khakis). Now…

I also measure dry, in grams, with a scale. While you said you'd rather not buy one, you would probably come to love it because it helps with measuring everything accurately. I can't even count how many times a day I use it...or maybe I can - it would be almost equal to the foods in my diary/recipes.

I just hit goal last week, and my planned reward was a DEXA scan to learn more about my body composition and set new goals. It turned out that the DEXA scan was included in a regular physical at an amazing new doctor I found, so I guess I should consider my new clothes my reward...or maybe I still need to treat myself some…

I agree with at least one other commenter that the day will come. I lost 50 pounds about 10 years ago and was perfectly happy with my weight. (My ticker reflects an additional loss from just recently when I decided to try to drop a few more pounds and just kept going!) Ten years ago, after I had maintained for a year or…

I love the Bare Access Arc 2. I actually bought 3 pair (currently using 2 and one is still in the box for backup). I guess the Bare Access 3 is pretty much the same, but I know I love the Arc 2 and I was able to find it on clearance.

I've also read that it doesn't matter how fast you get to goal--it only matters what you do after. So for some people, slowing down might help because it takes them longer to reach goal, thereby giving themselves more time to develop healthy habits. I just lost to a few pounds below my goal, at a rate of somewhere around…

I tried these, and they were fitted attentive by the store clerk, but my little toe would go numb wearing them. Then I tried Merrell's Bareform shoes (that have a Vibram sole). They don't have the toe separation, and I LOVE them. After several years away from running due to plantar fasciitis and heel spurs, I'm back at it!

Yep, I weigh in everyday and I like to see the changes/patterns over the course of the months.

It's definitely noticeable. Maybe with guys it's less of a topic of conversation. Even for me as a woman, I've noticed that people are hesitant to say anything. They kind of start to say I look great/lost weight, and I make a point of saying that I've been working on it. Often people are worried that it's because you've…

I can't speak for eHarmony, but I met my husband on Match (and my friend met her husband on Match, and my boss met his wife on Match...) When I moved to a new state, it was really just a great way to get out and meet people, and I found some friends though it too! (Note, that in the area I lived, it was really common for…

I like Metabolic Reset.

Just drink water and eat healthy. Your body knows what to do.

I love this one so much that I recently bought extra blades as well as a whole new system for backup. The one I've had has lasted for years already, and I use it a lot with the single-serve cups. I just got back up because I first bought it at Kohl's, and now I don't see it in stores anymore. So I wanted backup before it…

If you want results, you'll have to put in the work. To me, 5 pounds and a dress size means you've made no changes. (At least you haven't gained though.) Five pounds could be any random fluctuation and a dress size could easily be due to vanity sizing over the course of a year.

Exactly what I do -- a Tbsp of almond milk plus some Stevia. Will definitely check into the flavored Stevia - thanks!
-
You could try Stevia--and I mean straight Stevia extract, not Truvia, which I assume has lots of additives to give it the volume/texture of sugar. I bought a spice jar size of Stevia years ago at a health food store (when it had to be sold as a supplement because the FDA hadn't approved it as a food), and I'm still using…
