why? Mostly when people do that it's a typo, it's not that they don't know the difference. I'm dyslexic and process written language through phonics. I sometimes type the wrong word because it has the same sound. I rely on a spell checker to tell me if I spell words wrong (my visual memory for words is poor, so I don't…

5 minutes is an acceptable rest time between very heavy sets of squats or other demanding compound exercise. I play candy crush when resting between sets... but I work out at home so no-one cares.

I'm sure you're right about that in general - but each child is an individual and there are a whole lot of different conditions, and for some children, medication is a necessary part of treatment. Some children develop schizophrenia and all sorts of unpleasant and very serious conditions. It's the blanket statements I…

This is why you need to change your mentality.... lose weight more slowly, follow an easier eating and lifestyle plan, and aim to keep the weight of for life and also to enjoy the process of losing weight. Make it your lifestyle (and then maintenance for life as your lifestyle once you get to goal). Otherwise you will…

To get out of a cycle of yo-yo dieting, you need to not be in an all or nothing mentality. The all or nothing mentality sets you up not only for failure, but to give up the first time you fail. Instead, adopt a "good enough" mentality. You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be good enough. You don't have to follow…

There is some truth to this (I've seen research that suggests this) but not by hundreds of calories. Also, this change is reversible, the studies in question were done on people who did regular ways of dieting - no mention of strength training to maintain LBM while cutting or to increase it (via bulking cycles after…

Not all neurological problems can be fixed with behavioural approaches. Believe me, if the above method really worked on all kids then there'd be no need for special schools, paediatricians that specialise in autistic spectrum disorder and so on. It would all have been cured in the 1800s. I'm not saying that these…

How are you getting your body fat percentage measured? Most methods are not that reliable, and can be affected by hydration levels in your body, i.e. you can easily get a false high or false low reading from them. If it's one of the accurate ones (e.g. DEXA) and you used the same method both times, and your weight only…

Really....? You think no kid has any neurological problems ever? :noway: (I'm assuming you're replying to the two posts above not the OP's post) Good luck with that approach if you ever have a kid with a neurological problem... if you do, then you will probably change your tune pretty quickly, because you'd realise that…

Wish granted - but your superpowers set you so far apart from the rest of the human race, that everyone is intimidated by you and no-one can get close to you, so although you have lots of people who admire you, no-one truly loves you. for my wish see my last post

wtf does lop mean? - I think political discussion is against TOS anyway, maybe that's why no-one replied. Okay. You now have a new president: Zombie Adolf Hitler. And he wants to start the 4th Reich and rid America of everyone who's not of pure Germanic descent, which is the entire population. He starts the Zombie…

would you be worried if he was a little girl doing exactly the same thing? people expect boys not to cry, but boys and girls are both humans and humans are sensitive, and children are more sensitive than adults. There is a higher suicide rate among young men than young women, and part of that is thought to be that men find…

Do they know what's going on? I agree it is their responsibility not yours. And really your responsibility ends in letting others who can help know what's going on.
-
Also, just to add, if you call NHS direct and they sya there's nothing that can be done - then you can leave the situation knowing tht you did all that you could.
-
You can still discuss this with NHS direct though... refusal to take medication can be a symptom of the illness... whoever treated him before may not be aware he's doing this. It does sound like he needs more help - I don't think you can help him beyond letting people know what's going on. And to be honest, that's all I'm…

Given what the OPs said and what I know about clinical depression, it's very possible that this guy is not able to make that decision because the depression is too far gone. I really don't think it's good advice to just leave him without any contact with people who can help him. I understand if the OP is feeling out of his…

Call NHS and talk to them about your concerns about his mental health. They will be able to help him. Tell them all of it, his refusal to get treatment even for his toe, and how he's not getting treatment for depression. He needs help, and it's not the kind of help you can give him, but you can alert people who can help…

Having been there myself with clinical depression - Maybe someone needs to make him get treatment. (not you, it's not your place, but you can alert people who can help him)... One of the problems with depression is it makes you lose your will to live or do anything, and that can make it impossible to get yourself together…

this and lol @ high maintenance pet Additionally, you have to value yourself enough to really believe that you are worth the work that is involved in this. A lot of times people say "you don't want it badly enough"... well sometimes that's true but it's also often the case that the person does want it, but doesn't think…

while it's true that a low carb diet will reduce the water weight in your body and eating more carbs will make it return, it's actually a good thing to have more of this water in your system. It's stored along with glycogen in your muscles and liver, and it is your body's short term energy reserve (fat is the long term…

the whites are nearly pure protein and the yolks have quite a bit of protein but also lots of other nutrition.... an egg contains all the nutrients needed to grow a baby chicken, so they are extremely nutritious. You should eat the yolks too. Extra egg white (the kind you get in a carton so you don't end up throwing the…

There's protein in screws? I get that screws are probably a really good source of iron, but I'm pretty sure they don't contain protein.

(not a from one, because I've been living abroad) You know you're living in Bahrain if: 1. The traffic on the highway has come to a complete halt, and you don't know if it's because of a) civil unrest (possibly including the highway being firebombed), b) the police stopping all the traffic to try and find people that have…

okay, the context isn't entirely clear because "pushing you backwards on the bed" could mean any of several different things... but you kicking him so hard in the balls, unless it was to protect yourself from being raped or beaten, is physical abuse. You seem to think you're entirely justified to physically abuse him in…

Cardio means exercise where the cardiovascular system supplies enough oxygen to the muscles to maintain the intensity of exercise without building up any significant oxygen debt. Walking does that, as does strolling or any kind of simple movement. Even if you just get up off the sofa to walk to the fridge one time, your…

I've read quite a few journal articles in evolutionary biology that discuss the biomechanics of various human gaits and how limb proportions affect them. For example Homo erectus had a particularly efficient gait for long distance running which most Homo sapiens people also have (we're directly descended from African Homo…

I've got short legs, proportionally short shins, and I have big calves. And I suck at running. I'm good at deadlifting though
-
big calves don't help much with running... longer legs and proportionally longer shins help more. Shin splints could be due to poor running technique.
-
Get a time machine and do some match making between your cro-magnon ancestors and the local neanderthal population. Neanderthals had big calf muscles.
