you're saying the same thing again.... classifying zumba/cardio as female and strength training/weight lifting as male is sexist. People disparage cardio because it's no good for achieving what most people, male or female, want to achieve, i.e. a firm/toned body. That's not sexism, it's a biological reality.... you can…

the thing is I've been here years now and I've seen just as much sexism against men as sexism against women. There's body shaming against men and body shaming against women... most of the threads picking women's bodies apart or hyperfocusing on some stupid ridiculous aspect of it (like the thigh gap threads) are started by…

I just moved 4000 miles to get out of a loveless marriage... got two kids so just getting the hang of the lone mother thing. I'm not into ranting about family/interpersonal problems on my newsfeed, I just get on with stuff. Usually I lift weights but I currently don't have access to a gym or my own barbell... that's going…

I agree ^^^^ I also stand by what I said in my other post about it being sexist to imply that men can't comment on menstrual issues just because they don't have periods. Having periods doesn't make you an expert on them, and not having them doesn't stop you from studying biology. Female chimpanzees have periods but I'm…

if what the OP said to her friend was ambiguous too, and the friend thought she meant she wanted to gain weight, then the whole thing is a misunderstanding. The OP needs to speak to her friend and find out what she thought she meant. I'm not posting this to be pedantic - I'm trying to point out that the friend could have…

What if the OP's friend took it literally too? I said the sentence was ambiguous (which means the meaning is either not clear or could be taken in two different ways). If the OPs friend took it the same way I did (too literal or not) then the OP's basically destroying the friendship by ranting on here rather than talking…

Is there some difference in British and American English or something that changes the meaning of the bolded text? Because I really think if that's what the OP said, that her friend may have thought that she *wanted* to gain weight, and that her actions were trying to help.... it's an ambiguous sentence that could be…

I think I could say the same about you...... I picked up on one of the statements you said. If you can't see the sexism in that statement, then you need to look a little bit harder.

this is a sub-forum for women who lift weights (just so you know)... I find the assertion that weight training is something for men and not for women to be sexist. I'm sure a lot of the other weight-lifting women here would as well. I really enjoy weight lifting and hate stuff like zumba and treadmills. I also really enjoy…

if you told her you were on a serious mission to regain your former weight, then she was trying to help you because "regain my former weight" means get heavier.... i.e. she thought you considered yourself to be underweight and to need to gain weight to get healthy....

If you haven't been fuelling your body properly then the binge eating could be the direct result of that. It's a basic survival response that stopped our evolutionary ancestors starving to death by accident. A lot of people seem to forget this (or not be aware of it) and just expect the body to not respond to not getting…

you should definitely see a doctor, because usually these things can be treated. It's probably not just the weight causing it and 12 stone isn't that overweight anyway. It's probably not anything serious causing it but it's an annoying problem and usually treatable so definitely worth seeing a doc about it

Point is that a hunter-gatherer diet is an omnivorous diet, and all humans and were omnivorous until some cultures had developed a high enough level of agricultural knowledge and technology to get enough protein without animal products. i.e. the natural diet of humans is an omnivorous diet and a herbivorous/vegan diet for…

just saw that this is a zombie thread and I already said the same things before lol

I would advise against fruitarianism for any large brained primate. For smaller brained primates that have the necessary digestive system adaptations to extract a sufficient amount of amino acids from leaves, fruit and leaf "arian" diet would be adequate. For large brained primates that lack such adaptations, an additional…

It's because we evolved to survive food shortages, not to looked ripped while surrounded by an abundance of food. It could be technically possible for the human body to use fat stores for the energy to build muscle... but this trait makes no sense from a survival/evolutionary point of view.... those who have this trait…

protein is built in the cells from amino acids, the cells need energy to build it up. (calories are a unit of energy, just as centimetres are a unit of length, insufficient calories = not enough energy) to use an analogy, it's like you want to build a house. you need bricks (protein) of course, but you also need…

Not only that, it could be a medical condition that makes her look pregnant - I read this article about a woman who had a medical condition which made her abdomen swell up so she looked about 9 months pregnant, and she really didn't want to explain that to everyone who thought she was pregnant. If it's a friend or family…

one thing i really want to know.... are you a human that types in another language and then lets google translate mangle what you said into some vague semblance of English, or are you a bot that just spews random words and hopes they fall together into something that nearly makes sense?

Granted. Your dog has been given that thing that the apes in "dawn of the planet of the apes" had which enhanced their cognitive abilities... your dog is now super intelligent and a lot more self-conscious about where it relieves itself, so seeks out privacy and cleans up after itself so you don't have the hassle of any of…

Granted. You go down to the crossroads at midnight and try to flag a ride... the devil appears and you give the devil your guitar. He plays the blues on it, and gives you your guitar back. After that, you can play the guitar better than the best, and you rocket to superstardom. Unfortunately, the devil has taken your soul…

^^^^ this no "no" list.... just portion control. In fact for me if I forbid myself from eating any particular food it just makes me want it all the more and be unable to stop eating it when I fall off the wagon... so I have much more success with eating what I want in moderation.

Granted. You now have your own island. Unfortunately, due to it being geographically isolated and undiscovered for the last 60 million years, as soon as you arrive, you find out that it's the one place on earth where the dinosaurs didn't go extinct. You find this out by being attacked by a pack of velociraptors.…

The decline in learning is not inevitable... older people who make an effort to keep their brains active don't suffer a decline in cognitive abilities and it can even protect against senile dementia/altzeimer's until the late stages (i.e. it can't stop the illness but the amount of cognitive decline can be masked until the…

when I read the title "peanuts disaster" I though it was going to be something like "I work at a factory that produces peanut free foods for people with allergies but someone made a mistake and spilled peanuts all over the production line and so we had to throw away all the products made that day and get a professional…

eat 1200 cals/day as before, but try to be more active... maybe an extra workout, or walking instead of taking the car/bus, taking stairs instead of the lift, etc. you can't change your size or age but you can change how active you are. Also, there's a lot of scientific evidence mounting about the health risks of being…

I'm 5'1" and lose weight on 1800 cals/day and maintain my weight at 2100 cals/day... and that was before I moved back to the UK when I was much more sedentary because it was too damn hot to walk anywhere. Now I'm back in the UK the numbers would probably be quite a bit higher than that, as I walk a lot more now.

Let your elbows splay out. They don't need to stay by your sides. There is a push-up variation where it does, but usually your hands go directly under your shoulders and your palms on the floor with your fingers all pointing forwards, then just let your elbows point where they will when you bend your arms down. Your elbow…

Fires are easy to make if you have flint, iron pyrite and anything that makes good kindling (something that'll catch fire quickly and burn for long enough to catch the other wood etc on fire), it's not hard to find something in pretty much any ecosystem.
-
^^^^ this kind of thing plus iron pyrite (you need that and flint to light a fire unless you want to do the whole stick friction thing) I'd have sheep rather than cows though. I love lamb and mutton. And lots of wild fowl. For fauna: all kinds of edible berries (can they be in season all year round?) pistachio and cashews,…
