  • our metabolisms are all different. personally, now that I'm 40, i am definitely noticing some changes in my burn rate (metabolism) so I avoid the carbs which make me feel bad the next day. These tend to be carbs made with white bleached flour. I'm in the best shape of my life, i do various forms of cardio 6 days a week and…
  • While th while thing is questionable because its selling a product, she does make really great meaningful points including the above.
  • Hi there - I made 4 carrots last night but it's really up to you. I made 2 cups of kale as well, but I like to go overboard. In fact yesterday i was under my calorie goal, so maybe I needed to make more (!!!!) Regarding the oven temp, you can cook the chicken at 425 and then roast the chicken and carrots in the same oven.…
  • Me too! I am so into roasted veggies. Brussel sprouts, artichoke, broccoli - i have been roasting all of them! I don't toss the carrots in anything, but i like tossing the brussel sprouts, broccoli and the artichoke in olive oil and fresh lemon juice before roasting. pumpkin yum! trying next!
  • when it comes to cardio, and/ or knocking off extra calories i am in love with the elliptical because it's so easy on my knees. combined with other work around building muscle, it is working for me right now.
  • i actually only weigh myself about 2x/ month, maybe only once a month! usually about 5 days after the last day of my cycle. on days when i eat out and can't cook for myself i end up "gaining weight" because I retain fluids. but overall, i've found i'm much happier by limiting my time on the scale and increasing my fitness…
  • haha me too! It's been really helpful and delicious. though i do like it with mixed pineapple for dessert....
  • circling back - agree with everyone. it's not cardio "versus" weight training. Like all things in life, we benefit from balance. At least i'm finding that I do, because i got on the scale today to find i've lost 6 lbs, and my body fat percentage is now in "athletic" range!! seems that myfitnesspal deleted jake's post with…
  • don't waste more time on this bigot.
  • Jake, spelling that word with a ph instead of an f will not work here. sorry, but you've discounted all credibility by doing that.
  • i've decided to report jake's post due to his foul language. i just don't think there's any reason to speak that way here.
  • what? are you living in a cave? cardio fitness is very important - we're talking about the heart and blood pumping. you can't live without a healthy heart. and did you just use the word i think you used? i've been running for 20 years. yes, weight lifting has been more sculpting-friendly but every time a physician takes my…
  • i am basing my response to you solely on my own experience and advisement of my own trainer, under the assumption that you know we are all different and you may need different routines. ...having said that... my trainer has me on a specific schedule and this information may help you get a good idea of how to incorporate…
  • i've been wanting to sign up and do this too! this thread is more inspiration. I want to do it for all the same reasons; to protect myself if needed and for a new amazing workout.
  • I agree, this sounds awesome. Definitely making it tomorrow. Thanks! These foods keep me,full when I eat them: Kale Chick peas Cottage cheese 80% and above dark chocolate Chicken breast Avocado Eggs Olive oil Spinach ........and basically any green veggies, lean protein or beans
  • hello other 40+ ers :) i am so glad this thread is here! is there a separate group or are we sticking to this thread? i'm new to the club, just turned 40. Really noticing changes in the way my body reacts to food and exercise, and also struggling with feelings of "but i love food too much and life is short" vs "i really…
  • me too. but i'm wondering if doing it would end up being helpful even though it makes me nuts.
  • Made this today and loved it! I need to name it. If you make and like, let me know if you name it :) it's more than five but can be altered to be five -only.... All of this is to taste, I like mine lemony... Kale, chick peas, onion, garlic, tomatoes (sautéed with olive oil and lemon juice) Sauté Kale, onion, garlic, chick…
  • I limit myself to red wine only, no more than two glasses in a day. Lately I've been failing to stick to it, drinking a couple summery mimosas (brunch with friends) and parties in the decks of friends homes. I gained 3 lbs. so I'm going back to red wine, no more than two glasses, no more than a couple times a week
  • Body Analysis! I am trying to figure out what my real "target weight" should be. Can you elaborate on Body Analysis? Like, at a doctor's office?
  • i'm also at my last 8 and i hadn't thought of this. still adjusting to the whole "eat more" thing but i'm stuck on these last pounds (it's so frustrating sometimes!) trying it.
  • are these sometimes called "battle ropes"
  • i just started spinning - i love it! I don't have a Heart Rate Monitor right now but I think the calculations for spinning in MFP are way off. It has 60 minutes equaling a burn of 422 calories, and I don't think that's right. right?
  • i love supermans! just googled and this was the first result http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc6UVRS7PW4
  • I have been doing it all at once. lnstead of focusing on weight loss first, i just went for strength and fitness, and the weight loss came with it. it's slow, but i have successfully changed and am changing my entire body composition while losing weight. I'm told this is the best way to avoid creating loose skin or…
  • Interesting. Seems like its time to make maintenance related goals. Maybe I started this thread in the wrong way. I'm curious about how you set goals with this stuff (without heart rate monitor or body bug etc) And I guess now I'm hopeful someone who is almost at their goal is able to relate to this whole...."ok what now"…
  • I agree! Worked hard to get here, and I really don't want to overdo into hormonal oblivion. But...I still have weight to lose, or fat. Guess I'm saying I have no idea where to go from here, but I do still have some changes to make. And I want to maintain nothing less than health. Confused.
  • So...how do I figure out what equals underweight? Especially if the pounds arent as important as the body fat / muscle ratio. I don't want to be underweight at all whatsoever, but it seems that with so many calculations available there must be a way to set the right goals by knowing...well, I don't know... Maybe it's got…
  • thank you for this post, as it helps me see how grateful i am that i made a choice to be healthy instead of indulging any sort of eating disorder. You won't get help until you want to get help, I just hope you don't die first from malnutrition. Life is MUCH better as a healthy person. But there's nothing any of us can say…
