  • Sweets I can ignore every time, there were boxes of chocolates here from Valentine's day and I didn't even open the box to have a look. Potato chips on the other hand. What I have found, if there is an open bag of chips I just work out what a serving size is and count out half that amount of chips and have half a serving…
  • Most 'diet pills' are outright shams. The few that are effective tend to disappear fast as they get removed because they have various health risks. Once upon a time 'diet pills' meant 'speed', which actually worked. Try asking for that at a health store now.
  • I think part of the idea is that you also have a weight point where they no longer qualify because they are too low. So the patient loses a ton of weight, feels great and is encouraged to keep going and basically works themselves out of qualifying.
  • I am always using carrots and onions as the base of many meals. That is sugar. I eat tons of romaine lettuce, there is sugar being tracked there. Tomatoes, broccoli, unsweetened almond milk. All adding sugar. I just limit any processed foods and ignore the sugar column.
  • To be fair that lady isn't, well, the smartest, and other people have noticed, although I always get those 'no way' looks when I tell them how much I've lost. It is certainly noticeable, 16 inches less waist is a huge amount. 4x clothes to a L is certainly noticeable as well. Also, as has been pointed out, some people will…
  • True story. Last week a young girl at work, who had previously noticed my weight loss and has only been there a year or so said "have you lost some more weight?" To which an older woman, who has worked directly for me, and who I have individual meetings with every week or more often, for over a decade said "oh, have you…
  • My guess is your family and your religion take up about every spare second in your life. Without being disrespectful to either try and shoehorn in space for fitness. If it can become a shared interest it will be something you both will benefit from. My wife and I have both done a great job individually, but when it came…
  • You can't just make a statement like 'most' vegans get ' very, very' sick. This is obviously not true. You are saying that over 50% of all people who try a vegan diet become so ill they are rushed to the emergency room. Stop making these sweeping claims that you have no hope of substantiating and instead make some sort of…
  • Oh she has 'countless' and 'many' and 'most'.
  • My advice? Write a book 'Get Drunk and Lose Weight', you'll sell a million copies.
  • Again with this. You are incorrect. There are complete proteins that are not animal products. This was talked about a few pages back. Quinoa is a complete protein. Not a complimentary protein, a complete protein, exactly the same as a piece of meat. So are soy products like Tofu and Tempeh.
  • It's not for everyone. If you are always craving meat and cheese then it will be difficult. If you are cooking for other people who demand meat with every meal it will be very difficult. If you eat out at fast food restaurants or are having to pick up food in a hurry on your lunch break it will be difficult. However, no…
  • You are missing what I wrote. Tempeh, for instance, is a complete protein the same as a piece of meat. It does not need to be complimented with another protein, it contains all aminos, the same as a piece of beef. Also, complimentary proteins do not need to be eaten together as part of a meal. The can be consumed at…
  • Probably need to ask the doctor what he means as it is a pretty generic term to use to a patient. My guess is he means avoid processed food, no microwave meals or fast food etc. Also as a total anecdotal story, your mileage will vary etc etc. I used to have sinus problems and related headaches, not all the time but…
  • That would be great information if there was no such thing as a complete protein that was not from an animal product, but there are. Quinoa, Tempeh, Tofu off the top of my head. And your theory also seems to somehow suggest that eating wide and varied foods is a bad thing. But anyway... Everyone should have their own…
  • Mixed a cup of cooked quinoa with a large can of black beans, chopped up onions, red pepper and mushrooms added a bunch of spices and made a big batch of fantastic home made veggie burgers just last night.
  • 131 lbs without any surgery. Slow and steady so I don't even have any excess skin. Have another 25-30 lbs to go. I will be doing the whole photos thing at some point, but I pretty much made sure I was never photographed back in the 340 lb days. I did look at my driver's license today though and was shocked how different my…
  • The attitude is totally why that is my favorite pic of a very fine collection. It isn't inches or pounds that really make a woman pretty or sexy or whatever. It is the person beneath. You totally come through in your picture.
  • I know a guy twice your age wasn't who you were seeking advice from, but here I go anyway. Plenty of girls feel exactly the same as you do, even ones you think are really pretty. Same as I promise plenty of them think you are. So, don't focus on you, just make sure everyday you give out genuine compliments. Help other…
  • Vegan who has lost 131 lbs. Just base your meals around vegetables and lean non-animal protein and it is easy to lose weight while having the energy to work out and not want to keep snacking between meals. I aim to add more to my profile etc later, so feel free to add me anyone.
  • Not sure if guys are allowed in this thread, but I started wearing a 54 inch pants and am now wearing a 38. Still a way to go, but boy does 16 inches off your waist feel good and open up some new fashion choices. Not sure about skinny pants though.
  • I left for the US back in the 90s, but I am still British born and bred...
  • I'm still in my 30s, at least until the end of the year, and I have lost 128 lbs with about 30 more to go. So everyone in this thread with 100 plus to lose, you can do it. It might be harder than if you were 20 with that age's metabolism, but you can do it, and it feels great.
  • Get your husband excited about your weight loss and it will probably be easier. Stuff like "I can't wait to show you how good I'll look in this bikini (show picture of some supermodel/actress in a tiny bikini) by the next time you come home, but this time I need to stick to it so I can get there." Trust me you won't have…
  • Number 1 thing for me is I prepare my own meals and make enough for a few containers and put them in the fridge ready to grab on my way to work. When I go to work I take a small prepared salad, a prepared main meal and a piece of fruit for desert. I also take something for a snack (usually a trail mix bar or the like). I…
  • One great piece of advise I was given once, if you do something bad, don't tell yourself you will start fresh tomorrow, start fresh right then. You can't go back in time and stop yourself eating that cake from an hour ago, but you can take the stairs and have a salad for dinner that night. "I'll be good tomorrow" can just…
  • Hi, I am new to MyFitnessPal (got an ipad for Christmas and was looking for fitness apps) but not new to weight loss. Back in 2009 I weighed 343lbs (I am a 6 foot male by the way) and decided enough was enough and set myself the goal of getting to 199lbs, which would have been a 144lbs loss. Three and a bit years later and…
