  • Alright, cheat day... It's very interesting. I'm actually starting to feel like a "normal" human being and not a garbage disposal (more on that in a minute). My cheat day went like this: Breakfast: 6 oz grilled chicken, 1/2 cup black beans, sliced tomato (~350 calories) Lunch: 2 Del Taco tacos. The regular, crunchy kind.…
  • Well, if cheat day is a "waste", and you're only up 1 lb - that's not so bad! I've never had a mere 1 lb gain from cheat day. I don't know if I'm going to cheat today. I'm not sure I feel like it. I may just skip then switch to Saturday next week. As of right now (about 10 am) I've had 1 meal that was my typical SCD meal.…
  • Well...I didn't end up cheating yesterday after all...and I lost another lb. Crazy, right? Down 3 lbs this week. Unbelievable.
  • I'm assuming by your weight goals that you're female. 25 lbs could be a lot to start out with, and it's better to use too little than too much. I use a 35 lb kettlebell, and that's just the right amount for me for the workout above. I also can just do 75-80 swings straight with it, so use that information to factor what…
  • Way to go, Shannon... My cheat days have been Sundays, and I have been considering switching them to Saturdays now that football season is over. However, I have a gig tonight, which makes me NOT want to make today my cheat day, because a) I hate playing shows where I feel all bloated and b) I like to have a few beers on my…
  • What he says was that if you MUST have something in your coffee - use cream. The problem is that cream has 50 calories per tablespoon...BUT, IMO, you can get away with much less cream in your coffee than you can of other things. I'm going with black, though, too. And you know what they say...once you go... err... nevermind.
  • That makes sense, though - to me, that tastes like WAY too much. I think about 1/4 teaspoon would be better. Anyway - I've come to the conclusion that 1/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk does just fine - and it's only 10 calories. I don't think it contains anything that violates the SCD either. I did by some sugar free…
  • Stephanie, Thanks for the reply. I've tried stevia in the past, but I don't want to use it in my coffee I'm really trying to avoid all artificial sweeteners, and I believe Ferris even said on his blog that stevia should be avoided. I doubt it's hurting you, but the truth is - I don't really want my coffee sweet. I like it…
  • On the topic of coffee... I've never been a coffee drinker, but since I've sworn off soda (and am trying to avoid artificial sweeteners), I've started having a cup in the morning for the caffeine. Eventually, I'd like to ween myself off of caffeine altogether, but, for now, a cup of coffee in the morning, and a couple of…
  • I'm not sure about this one. Shannon. The Almond milk he's referring to contains no sugar. It only has 2g of carbs for 8 oz, and 1g of that is dietary fiber (which we know is good). The vast majority of this Almond milk is water and almonds. It does have "tapioca starch", which sounds like a no-no, but based on the carb…
  • Brilliant! The whole gas/brakes analogy really helped clear that up for me, and I now see how beneficial it is to keep your knees bent and use the abs as "brakes", as opposed to just allowing your hips to completely straighten. Thanks for posting!
  • Great! Must be something in the water... I must say, though - I'm not really concerned about lbs so much anymore, and I can honestly say that this is the first time I've ever felt that way in my life. My waist is down about 1 1/4" since I started doing this, and my body fat measurement this morning was also down a "notch"…
  • I'm using the PAGG. Because of the 2 months for the price of 3, I have a 3 month supply. I have only taken it 4 times once - I keep forgetting. I really don't get the sense that it's doing anything, but how are you to know? So - I'll take it until it's gone, then probably be done with it. I'm happy to say that it's…
  • I wanted to get them, but they're really expensive. Also, I'm actually having no trouble getting plenty of actual greens. The whole website really turned me off. To even get the price, you have to fill out your contact info...THEN, after you do that, if you don't order, they continue to harass you via email about having…
  • Brandy, In addition to nuts, you could also keep something like beef jerky in the car (just be sure to look for flavors that aren't high in sugar, i.e. no teriyaki) if you like that. What's nice about it is that the calories are relatively few, and it takes a long time to eat. It's the perfect snack if you're eating to…
  • Christin, In terms of REAL weight, you really shouldn't gain more than fractions of a pound most cheat days. Considering you'd need to eat an excess of 3500 calories to gain 1 actual pound, you'd probably have to eat 6000 or so to do that. If you buy into the science that Ferris promotes - that you can do certain things to…
  • Well cheat day is here. It took me the whole week to get off the cheat day weight (again), with no loss. So, I think I'm going to just do a cheat meal today, if even that. The truth is - I'm not at all discouraged - I just don't feel like cheating. I really don't. I have lots of good leftovers from the week which will make…
  • What does everyone's non-cheat day look like? I've gotten into a pretty good rhythm. I generally consume the following without much variation. I do occasionally substitute a shake and a few nuts for breakfast, but I've been trying to get away from that this week. 3 times per day, I eat the following: Protein: 3-4 oz of…
  • Stephanie, I feel like I'm in a similar boat. This is my 7th week. I'm down 6.5 lbs (at my lowest), but currently up 1.5 lbs from my last cheat day (mine are Sundays). Last week, I lost nothing. The week before - 1/2 lb. Like you, I'm pounding water, and occasionally drinking more than 2 glasses of wine. I'd say I've had…
  • Devuchka, You're right. I despise you. I lay awake at night seething over the thought of you eating egg-salad sandwiches and continuing to lose weight at a rapid pace, while I continue to eat legumes, veggies and protein yet plateau. It's just not fair! What's really weird is that the thought of eating egg salad used to…
  • Like I said - I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong...I'm saying you're not on the SCD. You're eating egg salad sandwiches and counting calories. There's not necessarily anything wrong with that. My only point was that if you take a diet like this that has like 5 main rules and throw one of them out the window, I…
  • I don't blame you. Doing ANY program is much easier when you're partnered up with someone else doing the same program. Makes preparing meals more worthwhile, makes you feel like you're accountable to more than just yourself, etc. These online communities are great and all, but it's not like having someone you actually know…
  • I dunno. I'm not saying that your diet is bad or anything (clearly it's not - it's working), but egg salad sandwiches? Maybe it's not this way, but the way you mention them makes it sound like it's a staple of your diet...something to the effect of, "I just grab another egg sandwich", or something similar... I would say…
  • I've been doing the original Power 90 "sculpt" video 3 times per week. It's a fast-paced "circuit" that uses dumbells. It lasts about 30 minutes. I had been doing the Power 90 Ab routine afterward, but, after some tailbone discomfort, discontinued it. My plan is to do the kettlebell work after the P90 in place of the abs.
  • Thanks Chris - great info. I'm looking forward to the KB. My glutes can use it. I suffer from a complete and total lack of posterior, regardless of my weight (as I get larger, it might be a bit wider, but equally flat). I'm not looking to go all J-Lo up in here, but I wouldn't mind rounding things out a bit. As I said -…
  • Nie work, Christin. I've found that the weeks where my cheat day weight gain was under 3 lbs were my best, weightloss-wise. For me, this was, again, not one of those weeks, but I was only 3.5 lbs, so I'm moving in the right direction... I want to talk for a minute about body fat %... As I mentioned before, I got a caliper…
  • Upon reviewing "The Last Mile", I've determined I'm just not ready for that. Eating basically 8 oz of protein every 3 hours seems like a lot of work and discipline. Maybe I'll get to the point where I feel differently, but I just don't see myself being "so close" that I could sustain that long enough to get to where he…
  • Yeah, I have thought about it. I need re-read that chapter. I was hoping to not have to do it. I don't know why, especially considering I don't even remember what it said. The thing is - I really like eating the way I'm eating, and it's very easy to do. It's cheap, satisfying and makes me feel great. So much so, that I'm…
  • Well, I had planned a more moderate cheat day yesterday, but ended up going kind of overboard, again, which is disappointing after a week of no weight loss. However, I'm only up 3.5 lbs, which is better than my past few, so I'm hoping things will get rolling this week. I'm going to try to extend my runs a little this week,…
  • I bought the PAGG from one of the stores (http://paggstack.com). FWIW, it has no ill-effects on my ability to get to sleep or stay asleep. I believe the green tea extract it contains is decaffeinated. Hard to say if it's working or not, particularly as I haven't been that consistent with its use. I'm going to start setting…
