  • Double Yoga! An hour of Flow (Hot Yoga) and an hour of BarreAmped. Plus a 30-min walk. Over 1,000 calories GONE, which I fully expect to consume tonight. Insanity is on deck starting Jan. 7. Happy New Year!
  • I (mostly) prefer to work out at home. I love being 60 seconds from my "gym" and back "home" quickly after my workout. I agree with what others have said about variety being important and I have many different DVD workout programs that I rotate through adding in elliptical, treadmill & Yoga (at a Yoga studio) workouts. We…
  • My hubby and I bought eachother a NordicTrack treadmill, I bought him a HRM, and I got a LuLu Yoga mat, a Garmin GPS running watch, stands for my SelecTech dumbbells and the BodyMedia Fit! Look out 2013! It's going to be the healthiest year yet! :)
  • I try to focus on my weekly numbers trying to balance my "over" calorie days with "under" calorie days ending up close to even on Sunday.
  • Bump
  • I did the Shakeology thing for many months last year. Can't say that I noticed any significant difference in anything. Here is a website I found that reviews meal replacement shakes http://www.mealreplacementshakereviews.com/?gclid=CInB9IDn-7MCFcsWMgodMBgAIA I don't buy Shakeology anymore and I still feel the same.
  • Bodybuilding.com has free 12 week workout plans you can follow at your gym!
  • Play it by ear. If you're exhausted, rest. I agree that any activity should be mild - walking, biking, moderate stuff. Personally, I love Yoga when I feel under-the-weather. Your workouts will still be there next week, but you only get one chance on you finals! Get well soon!
  • 1800 seems pretty good if you're burning those amounts. MFP would have you at a base of 1200 and eat back your burned calories each day which would be 1650-1850 depending on the workout. Keep at it, the pounds will come off. The hardest part of the journey is being patient!
  • Do you have a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM)? If so, wear it while doing your workouts. It'll give you a better idea what your calorie burns are which should let you figure out how many calories you should be eating over-and-above your body's minimum needs. If you don't have one, you might want to put it on your Christmas list!…
  • I'm doing RushFit right now and like it! You use a couple of dumbbells, but nothing over-the-top.
  • Week 4 - Day 1 on the books for today! Tomorrow is the stretch DVD + Cardio and I've been going to Hot Yoga on those days. Really enjoying this workout! Michelle
  • I've been getting up early to fit my workouts in (P90X a couple of years ago) and don't need food before my workout. I've gotten so used to exercising on an empty stomach that if I try to workout at other times of the day I feel nauseous. Water is critical for me to have during my workouts though. Try it and see how you…
  • I like Jamie Eason's protein bars. She has recipes for pumpkin, chocolate, lemon... I don't always use the no-calorie sugar or almond milk she does - I'll use the real things. I found the calorie difference is minimal. Here is the link to the pumpkin bar recipe.…
  • I tend to focus on my weekly numbers. Some days I'm over, some days I'm under but if at the end of the week I'm within 100 calories (over or under) of the weekly goal, I feel it was sucessful.
  • It is also helpful to look up restaurant food either here or on their website before you go out to eat.
  • Have you calculated your BMR? I entered your stats in the Katch-Mcardle BMR calculator (using the 22% body fat figure) and it calculated your BMR as 1569. This is what you need to sustain yourself if you do nothing all day. http://www.calculatorpro.com/calculator/katch-mcardle-bmr-calculator/ You can then determine your…
  • Me three! I buy the large container of oats, and add dried fruit and 1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein to it and mix with hot water. I think it tastes better than the instant packets, gives me protein, has less sugar and saves me $$!
  • You're doing SO WELL! One lousy meal/day does not define you as long as you don't let it. We all have them. If you feel you need some help, get it. But please don't let one meal derail all you have accomplished! Stay well, Michelle
  • Hi All! I'm pretty new here and haven't posted anything other than a brief intro. I had a good week last M-Th and then had half a bottle of red wine Friday, a beer and half a bottle of white wine Saturday managed to abstain on Sunday, only because my food was horrible! My goal this week is to score zeros until Saturday and…
  • You can tell from my profile pic that I did the Color Me Rad run a few weeks ago. As others have said, it is a VERY low key 5K. The MC even said "if you came to get a personal best 5K time, you're in the wrong place!" It's about fun. If you run through the color stations, you'll miss the colors! The Couch-to-5K program…
  • I've lost 59# (started at 211 like you). It took me about 18 months but lost the first 25-30 in 6 months or so. (I'm 41 today.) Get some exercise in most days, eat well most days, and you can do it too!! I'm the mom to 3 girls (had my first at 21), and hope you are blessed with a baby someday too!!
  • I agree with the general message of cardio + strength = well balanced workout schedule. I do cardio 2-3x per week, strength training 2-3x per week and Yoga once (or more if I feel like I need it). This also keeps me from getting bored. If you need help coming up with a plan, I suggest that you check out Jamie Eason's 12…
  • I like jeans at The Limited. They have a variety of styles, wide & straight leg. And, if you watch the clearance rack you can get a deal!
  • I have three dughters who were born when I was 21, 24 and 27. They are now 19, 16 and 13 and I am 41. I was the "young" mom with my first and am of similar age to the parents of my younger two. My mom was 18 when I was born. My husband's mom was 47 when she had him in 1964. That was considered really old at the time.
  • If you're hungry, have a snack. If you're not hungry, don't have a snack. If you have a good-sized, nutritious meal, you shouldn't be hungry until the next meal (assuming it isn't many hours away). I find that I like having about 400 calories for breakfast because that will hold me until lunch. The more calories I have at…
  • Another newbie here! My best girlfriends have nicknamed me Lush, so I think I'll feel right at home in this group! (Their nicknames are B!tch & $lut - I like mine best! ) Any who... I was having a pretty alcohol free week until I had some friends over for a jewelry party on Thursday and drank 3/4 of a bottle of red…
  • Like you, I wake up early and workout on an empty stomach. I've been doing this for a couple of years without any troubles. You mention that you're pretty hungry after your finished, which seems like a good time to eat something! Keep up the good work!
  • ^^ Love this! I want some wine, but I think my boss would disapprove. Although, she probably wouldn't be too happy to see me wasting time on MFP either.
