  • Agreed, though Ginger is more of a jazz drummer in the style of Gene Krupa, Loui Bellson (who started the double bass drum fashion), Buddy Rich, et al. Having recently watched an old ELP live set on TV, I would also cite Carl Palmer, his solo was totally awesome!
  • 55 lbs gone, 80 to go, maybe a few more. Feeling a lot healthier since the first 20 or 30 went, walking faster, no breathlessness, sleeping better, snoring according to my wife more like a rabbit than my previous hippo (!), my watch got loose and I had to take a link out of the band, shoes don't fit so well any more,…
  • I should perhaps make it clear that shooting rats is not something I get any pleasure from but the military taught me to shoot, and it's the most efficient way of despatching them so I do it. Fortunately I'm not squeamish! Kinda like paying taxes, no one likes it but you just have to do it! On a similar subject a few years…
  • This is not an 'eating' disorder, this is a form of mental illness, the brain is not getting the correct signals possibly brought on by clinical depression to do with your pregnancy and I suggest you approach the medical profession rather than a bunch of, albeit helpful, people trying to lose weight on the internet. The…
  • Heartbreak Hotel, Elvis Little Red Rooster, Stones, Sunshine of your love, Cream Like a Rolling Stone, Dylan Voodoo Chile, Hendrix Black Mountain Side, Led Zeppelin and so many more! oops, forgot - Waterloo Sunset, Kinks Whiter Shade of Pale, Procul Harum
  • I post a pic and fill in all my profile stuff because I think it is important that people realise what a great guy I am:love: Seriously, while I don't discriminate when accepting friends against those who don't have a pic and don't fill in their profiles, I prefer to see what they look like and learn something about them…
  • I think you're all being unkind. The lady is...er.....mature (no offence, I'm maturererer....) and spent 2 hours ironing, I guess she would definitely have burned some calories, so don't mock. Any physical activity is good (even the amount of typing I do in a day because of my job, but I don't count that!) OP, I doubt…
  • Hate to tell you this but a lot of the rest of the world (ie a lot of Europe, etc) already have equality legislation. There has been an argument about gay marriage in the UK (but not equality, we already have legal gay partnerships) with the love your neighbour crowd squealing that marriage can only be between a man and a…
  • This has been a disgustingly busy week so far, they keep expecting me to do work! Most unfair!! Been very quiet around here, I know Meg's been away, but............. @jane - you'll be the first to know about my Indian adventures, though they will probably be humdrum, airport, hotel, office, blah, blah!! Wood stoves are…
  • Oh do get over yourself! You're a pretty girl, I'm sure you're not perfect but I can't tell from the three pics on your profile, but who is perfect (apart from myself of course). Keep away from the stupid threads, they're completely meaningless. Sart loving yourself, you seem to have a lot going for you, so give yourself…
  • But the problem is when you follow the citations. I don't have time to check all the fevered imaginings of some bloggers mind, but I did check the first two people/groups, the first person has done a study on bee honey, nothing to do with weight loss directly, the second concerns cinnamon oil, I quote "Mixtures of cinnamon…
  • Honey and cinnamon, whatever next? Magic diet pills? Sorry, there are no short cuts to losing weight apart from surgery, you need to consume less calories and be more active.
  • One word - bacon! or eggs or fruit
  • Two things life has taught me, you're never too old to start something new, and the busier you are the more you can fit in. Feel free to add me, I still have a lot to lose though doing well so far.
  • I think losing weight would help you. I've found the bigger I get the more claustrophobic I get and I dream about having to get through small places.. It's got a whole lot better since I lost 50+ lbs!
  • I totally agree!. I knew what I wanted to do at age 18 but for a number of reasons it didn't happen. It remained an aspiration even while I worked in a totally unrelated job, which I sort of enjoyed and ended up in a fairly senior management position, until I was made redundant at age 40 and retrained as a computer…
  • Why not cheat all the time and eat what you want every day. Then you won't have to worry about a silly diet. On the other hand if you want a lifestyle change, where do cheat days make any sense forever? Like some above I've never cheated or felt the need to cheat, I eat what I want, but within my calorie goals which I have…
  • I'm fat and cutting down calories for life, but every week I have a 'cheat day' and eat like a pig. I'm an ex smoker, but every week I have a 'cheat day' and smoke four packs I'm a recovering alcoholic, but every week I have a cheat day and get roaring drunk I'm in serious debt but every week I have a 'cheat day' and…
  • Personally, I started putting on weight when I gave up smoking 20+ years ago so my goal weight is the weight I was then plus up to 10 lbs given that I am 20+ years older now and it works out at about 15 lbs more than I was when I left school (I more or less maintained weight until I stopped smoking). But as has been said…
  • @_tru_ - love the music track to the baby mooses, I assume it's Alison Krauss, certainly sounds like her.
  • @Jane - I think India is going to be difficult calorie wise as I'm not familiar with the North Indian cuisine so I think I'm just going to have to take it as it comes, weigh myself when I get back and take the consequences whatever they are. I imagine it is going to be very hard to log accurately, though no doubt I will…
  • You will lose weight on the calorie deficit alone, exercise only helps to burn more calories in weight loss terms (though clearly it's a good thing to do from a health viewpoint!), so if you are putting on weight you are not following your deficit calorie allowance or miscalculating somewhere along the line.
  • Lisa a coke and a small popcorn wouldn't put 2 lbs on you, I forget the figures but I think it's something like 3500 calories per lb so you would have had to eat at least 7000 calories over your maintenenance figure (not over your MFP calculated allowance! 20% higher than that) to do that. More likely is the salt on the…
  • Blood of virgins is not used so much in spells these days, like eye of toad it's been replaced by more modern stuff.
  • @Lisa - welcome to the madhouse, plenty of support and awesomeness (from Meg, she is our resident awesome artist) here on this thread  It's nice to have new people too. @meg - if you want a personal trainer, I'd do it for free, but you've already spurned me for your husband, so your loss  Incidentally Dr Who…
  • Well done and congratulations to the Software Development Team and all involved. The new version is definitely a big improvement and I thoroughly enjoyed the beta testing phase, even though it was pretty much sorted by the time it hit beta, just a few bugs to be ironed out in reality.
  • Not at all. I'm saying starvation mode, ie that your metabolism slows down and you stop losing or even put on weight is nonsense and counter to the first law of thermodynamics. If your metabolism slows you will lose weight at a slower rate as clearly you won't expend as many calories thus your net intake will not be as low…
  • Yes I agree, when I first heard about starvation mode I thought," so the people who survived the holocaust concentration camps in WW2 must have come out fat?" Sadly not, they are proof that if you don't feed people enough calories to maintain, they will lose weight, the bigger the deficit the more they will lose until they…
  • Yep MFP works if you follow its principles. I have and lost 51 lbs in five months, and more importantly, changed the way I think about food, so I am very optimistic for the long term! Well done on getting rid of your first 10 lbs, it's a nice feeling
  • Mine is not an opinion, mine is a fact based on proper research, it is not anecdotal or due to experiments on myself (Have you ever heard of the placebo effect?). If you input less than you output, you will lose weight. Get used to it. Sorry but I just get a bit fed up with people trotting out this garbage on a regular…
