  • I used the cross-trainer (stepper/elliptical hybrid) and it seemed to burn a ton of calories very quickly (based on heart rate and age on the machine itself). However, I then bought a heart rate monitor with a chest strap (New Balance N4) and found out that I was burning HALF of what the machine at the gym estimated I was…

  • I always burn more calories on the elliptical than I do on the stationary bike in the same amount of time. I would recommend the elliptical, but just remember that eveyone is different. Also, if you want to get a really accurate idea of what you're burning, buy a heart rate monitor with a chest strap and that measures…
  • 1/2 c. cottage cheese + 1/2 c. fresh pineapple, diced, + 1/2 c. All-Bran Flakes. Delicious! =)
  • 1) Empire apple, sliced and served with PB2. 2) 1/2 c. low-fat cottage cheese with 1/2 c. fresh pineapple chunks. 3) Kashi TLC Original 7 grain crackers (plain, with PB2, with 1oz. swiss cheese, with apple...the possibilities are endless) 4) 1 medium banana 5) 1 serving sugar free dark chocolate pudding (jello brand,…
  • A second veggie or a salad. Cottage cheese...which can be served many ways (plain, with pepper or other seasoning, with fruit, etc.)
  • Sugar free dark chocolate pudding with fresh strawberries, sliced...topped with a dollop of Cool Whip Free. Yum =)
  • Awesome post. I always find myself trying to explain this to people. It's important to understand how processes in your body work and how they are affected by what you do...eat, drink, exercise, sleep...everything! =)
  • Extra lean ground beef (96/4) is great...lower in calories, fat, and cholesterol. I always buy extra lean ground beef...I'm not a fan of using turkey in place of it, especially since when I was comparing numbers, the extra lean ground beef was lower than the ground turkey. I know that this is because the ground turkey is…

  • This is me too, though I just started drinking them and I drink Muscle Milk Light. I'm trying to increase my protein intake. I like the pre-mixed shakes because they are convenient...I can just grab and go. I drink them within 30 minutes of working out. I've only tried the chocolate flavor so far, and it's pretty good.…
  • It also helps to buy things that can be used many different ways...like chicken breast. I sometimes buy an excess of chicken breast and cook them all at once. You can season/marinade them all the same or a couple of difference flavors. Then, this chicken is already cooked and can be used throughout the week in just about…
  • Garnier Exfoliating Expert face scrub is great. I also like clinique products. And, I've recently come across an awesome face mask, Boscia Luminzing Black Mask, which help to retexturize your skin and minimize your pores. Also, try to keep your hands off your face as much as possible, wash yoru face after working out, and…

  • I'm not vegetarian, so I'm not sure what's "safe" food and what's not. However, if you eat dairy...cottage cheese is fairly high in protein. And it tastes great plain (or with a little pepper), with salads, veggies, or fruit! =)
  • This must be very tough for you to be going through, and it must be tougher not having the support of the one's who should be closest and most supportive. However, YOU have to do what is BEST for YOU, and you are definitely on the right track. You are HERE on MFP and you have started taking the first steps to being…
  • I have a New Balance N4 (actually designed for women so the watch and chest strap are not so bulky). It monitors heart rate, counts calories (just remember to start the timer at the beginning of your workout), and you can save data from up to 9 workouts. It seems very accurate and is very comfortable. Only $70 at Target…
  • This is an excellent explanation. Thank you.
  • Your max recommened heart rate is 220 - age. The fat burning zone and cardio zone of your heart rate range are 60-70% and 85% of your max heart rate, respectively. So, your target heart rate will depend on your goals.
  • You could incorporate cottage cheese (low fat or nonfat if you prefer). I will occasionaly eat cottage cheese with sliced fruit (pineapple, grapes, strawberries, etc...anything you like) for breakfast or a snack.
  • I agree with the previous poster about New Balance shoes. I have sketchers shape-ups for every day wear, but they have worn out quite quickly and I'm actually looking to get new work shoes and casual tennis shoes to replace them. However, I absolutely LOVE my New Balance running shoes. Mine are kind of all-purpose exercise…
  • Grilled or steamed summer squash or zucchini is very good. Steamed baby carrots, steamed broccoli. Sometimes I just like to cut up a cucumber, sprinkle with pepper and eat as a snack or side dish. Also, if you're looking for a new way to do potatoes, grilled red potatoes (lightly coated with olive oil, black pepper, fresh…

  • This is what I do with Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. I like it because it allows the workout to be somewhat customizeable for days I'm shorter on time, and on days when I have extra time I can complete the entire workout.
  • Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism is a really great DVD, though the workout is longer than the 30DS workout.
  • I agree with this. First, the 30DS is a great workout in a fairly short amount of time. Each circuit is only 25 minutes long (that includes warm up and cool down).
  • Agreed. My yoga mat and dumbbells are all I need for a good home workout. =)
  • Flatout light breads are probably my favorite flat bread/wraps! They are so yummy.
  • 1 can of white albacore tuna (in water). Add 1 TBSP. of reduced fat mayonnaisse or miracle whip. Add chopped celery and chopped green onion (chopped dill pickles, sweet pickle relish, or even some fresh dill can be added too!). Mix all above together, season to taste with pepper (and maybe some celery seed if you desire).…
  • Walden Farms makes decent tasting calorie free dressings...yes ZERO calories. =-) They're acutally pretty good.
  • The calculated deficit depends on the rate of weight loss you've selected. 1lb / week = 500 calorie daily deficit, 1.5 lb / week = 750 calorie daily deficit and etc. =)
  • PB2! =) I love that stuff...infact, eating it with apple slices right now. Yum!
