this was the problem i'd keep having - someone would tell me "you need to raise your calories", so i'd do it for a week or so, gain a bit of weight, completely panic and go back to 1200. once i forced myself to eat more for an extended period of time that initial weight came off. now i only weigh once a week and am trying…

I love cycling as well, though i am a very casual rider (210 miles is nuts!!). now that the weather is starting to get nice here i'm going to have to figure out how to fit 3 days of heavy lifting, c25k and cycling in every week without collapsing ;) Mishka - welcome! i'm sure your bodybuilding other half will get you…

i've recently started eating a lot more and having a tough time overcoming the mental aspects of it too. i know it's necessary for gaining strength, though, so i'm trying to rid myself of old mentalities. what do you think of c25k? i just did W4D1 and thought i was going to die, hahaha!

anyone? bueller? ;)

nope. protein is actually great for weight loss. it's almost impossible to eat too much on a daily basis. a good rule of thumb is 1g protein per lean body mass - so if you're 160lbs and 25% body fat, you have 120 pounds of lean body mass and should be shooting to eat 120g protein per day. edit: of course this assumes…

i love Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey in the Double Rich Chocolate flavor. it mixes well and tastes great with regular milk, soy, almond and coconut (and i can even drink it just with water). per scoop: 24g protein 120 calories 3g carbs 1g sugar

having one "cheat" day a week doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. as long as you keep it semi-controlled it has a lot of benefits mentally, and some research has shown it may actually help you lose weight faster. i know when i was doing some stricter eating plans i would easily be able to power through the week…

Optimum Nutrition makes a really good whey powder. very low in carbs, mixes well and tastes great (i like the "double rich chocolate" flavor a lot). i can drink it just mixed with water, but if you mix it with milk (almond or soy are super yummy) and some fruit or a TBSP of peanut butter it turns into a super delicious…

if you're worried about carbs, then yes, you should be wary of how much fruit you're consuming. like yarwell said, berries are your best bet. if you're just looking to put healthy things into your body, then don't stress too much about it ;)

you can do anything you want - 35 isn't ancient. you aren't going to do any damage pushing yourself.

truth. use this: http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm to figure out a calorie goal per day. multiply that by 7 for your weekly goal. if you go over one day, don't stress. just subtract the excess off the next day, or the next two days, or whatever makes it the easiest for you. it's a marathon, not a…

Can anyone help me with a nutrition plan for Starting Strength? I'm interested in burning fat, so a bit of a calorie deficit would be nice. I assume I should eat more on lifting days and try for the deficit on rest days? I'm F, 5'8", 155lbs and 36 years old. What kind of daily calorie numbers would you recommend? Will be…

i did some net sleuthing awhile back and found the general consensus was about 200 calories for my height/weight, so i think that's at least reasonably close ;)

i agree - stay slow carb for as much of the day as you possibly can. when you do cheat, cheat small - only have one piece of pizza, just a sliver of cake, etc. try to drink a TON of water, and if possible do a small glass of grapefruit juice before your cheat food (if you're at a pub, they should have some). like…

here's the thread we all post on: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/143401-the-4-hour-body-slow-carb-diet that is actually the beginning of what ends up being 2 topics of 20 pages each, so there's a lot to sort through. if you want to get to where we're currently posting, it's here:…

Hi Jason! I'm Steph :) started my weight loss journey years ago, and slowly but surely lost 35 pounds or so. got to a point where things just weren't moving the way i wanted them to, so i read 4 hour body and started on september 12th of this year. i've lost about 8 pounds in 2 months, which i'm very happy with as it was…

get out there and get moving! there are people in the world who love to even have the opportunity to run but they are disabled, too overweight, etc. it would be selfish of you NOT to run, right?? ;)
-
I just log mine in manually as 30 Day Shred Level One, etc. I've figured that i burn roughly 190 calories for level one, if that helps. seems like it should be more, right? ;)

though it seems counter-intuitive, retaining water actually comes from being dehydrated, so no worries there ;)

so jealous! have a great time and rock out a bit for me ;)

you're the best! :flowerforyou:

IMO relatively clean eating, calories in < calories out, moving more and incorporating weights is about the most fool-proof plan ever. i've been trying to cut way down on carbs, but i'm having a tough time with fruit now that the weather is getting nicer. i finally decided - screw it, if i cant eat an apple or a banana in…

hopefully this site can help you reach your goals. i've hit a wall and have been stuck on a plateau for what seems like eternity and am trying REALLY hard not to lose focus and give up. seems like i can't shed any weight no matter what i do. luckily i have some great friends to keep me motivated! do you have any sort of…

you can't spot-lose weight. it comes off where it comes off, there's no way to trick it into coming from certain places. if you exercise certain areas of your body you will build muscle in those areas, but that doesn't mean the fat on top will come off. it isn't really fair, i know ;)
