I guess it also depends on the type of compliment. Meaning if it is of a Personal nature. Ex: speaking of certain body parts, etc. That would be sort of inappropriate.

I have last bite syndrome! I have to leave that last bite on the plate , or I will barf it up if I try to eat it. It may be in my mind, but this started happening when I was pregnant for my son 18 yrs ago. Crazy.
