  • If you don't get encouragement to lose weight, will you do it anyway?
  • I have really bought into "It's a lifestyle thing" I find myself repeatedly saying stuff like, "I just don't eat there any more" or "I just don't eat like that anymore." It's believing I have a habit of it before it becomes habit. Maybe the first couple of times it's forced and feels fake but then it really does become a…
  • You have a LOT more research to do. Your desire to convert fat into muscle is admirable but just not compatible with reality. MFP is not the site for magic and fantasy. We deal in converting ignorance into healthy, fit reality.
  • When do you plan to stop losing and start working to keep it off?
  • Vegans always have an ulterior motive for their choice. Humans are omnivores and designed to eat both plants and animals. I happen to love the taste and texture of meat. I hang an ornament of Saint Anthony, the Patron Saint of Bacon, on my Christmas tree every year.
  • A lot of people over estimate the calorie burn from exercise. You do NOT burn 330 calories walking to the refrigerator to reward yourself with an ice cream bar.(An exaggeration on my part but hopefully the point is that little bit of exercise does not make up for high caloric food choices.)
  • Sounds like you need to select different parents, LOL. Seriously, you are stuck with your DNA thighs and nothing short of a surgical procedure will "spot reduce". Eat at a calorie deficit and your body will decide where the loss comes from. Exercise will add to your overall fitness and allow you to fall in love with your…
  • Nobody builds "muscle mass" accidently and certainly not in two weeks. It takes serious effort both at the table and in the gym. Unless you have a very strenuous job that you just started, think logger or firefighter, give those gym rats some credit. Most likely water weight associated with hormonal flux.
  • Depends on how miserable you want to be. That much weight loss in such a short period of time for some one who is not grossly overweight will require a lot of sacrifice. I would not recommend it.
  • Doesn't matter, just pick the easiest one and follow the trend.
  • As long as we're nit picking (muscle does NOT weigh more than fat) How vicious is a "viscious" rumor. A better visual to illustrate the point would be to compare an equal volume of muscle and fat. A cup of muscle will weigh more than a cup of fat. The great visual presented just makes the point that 5 pounds = 5 pounds.
  • Yep, he wins the gym-turd competition. I get it, though, when someone responds in such an unexpected and unreasonable way, you're too shocked to know what to throw back at them. Then when I think about it, I have all sorts of spicy comments!
  • Yes, 1200 was just an example of what a person needs to function on a daily basis (TDEE). Maybe a better example would be, if it takes 1200 calories to maintain your current weight then consistently eating 1300-1500 calories will cause you to slowly gain weight. I was trying to pick a number where 1300 -1500 (the number of…
  • Only if your calorie goal is under your calorie requirement. If you only need 1200 calories a day and you're eating 1300 to 1500 then you will GAIN weight even if it's all "healthy" foods.
  • Don't forget your body needs calories/nutrition to heal. It is making new connective tissue (joint capsule, skin, etc.) Now is not the best time to be too restrictive with your calories. You have plenty of time to do that getting more mileage from your new (pain-free) hip. Wishing you better and better recovery.
  • You are using him and his resources. He feels entitled to control you and it will continue as long as you let it. I vote with GTFO. I wouldn't want to hear the end of your story on a True Crime drama. Those *kitten* are out there and they suck you in by pretending to want to "help". Belittling you in public is a sign it's…
  • Where is your profile picture? I'm suspicious someone is trolling for some anorexia site.
  • No...strength.....to........fight...........nonsense................ Quick get this girl some Vitamin Water!
  • OMG! What an error I made. I "assumed" only a woman would be so involved in someone else's problems. Just slap me.
  • It doesn't matter. All the calories will be added together for the day. You can separate them however you want to. You can even make up your own meals or time periods. When I worked nights and ate very atypical meals I logged by time period instead of "breakfast" "lunch" or "dinner". Be sure and measure the juices…
  • Why would you do such a thing then tell everybody about it?
  • Stop with the "accidently" gaining muscle weight. Everybody knows muscle weighs more than fat so she should be gaining weight! / \ / \ / serious sarcasm don'tcha know
  • From your description he is living in a fantasy world not unlike his video games. Get out. Now. Run, don't walk to the nearest gym and thank your lucky stars you aren't pregnant by him. His mental illness may be hereditary.
  • After suggesting I lose weight, prescribing glyburide at my request to lose weight, my regular doctor asked me if I wanted a weight loss consultation. I casually said "Yeah" and went to the appointment. Talk about the "Scared Straight" effect. This total obliviot took my measurements, printed out a big old packet of…
  • You don't. If you have established healthy habits as part of a healthy lifestyle you just keep livin' the dream. Enjoy your new-found relationship with your body that includes patience as it adjusts.
  • How much more THIS can I say! What I can say is whatever you have been doing the last 2 1/2 weeks is not sustainable. You can't exercise everyday for the rest of your life. You can't deny yourself little treats every day for the rest of your life. Rest days are part of a healthier lifestyle. Treats and special occasions…
  • Two weeks is not a plateau. Don't change anything. Practice patience.
  • I don't know why he would even want to know his BMR since he's not in a coma. You must mean his TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) He already knows he's eating more than he's burning because he's gaining weight. If he's accurately logging his intake start subtracting calories until he hits on a number that causes him to…
  • My wife and I have a Bonus Meal once a week. We alternate who picks the meal/restaurant. For that one meal anything is fair game (Pizza, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, chocolate, whateva). I never have to say "I can't ever eat that again." because I save that crave for the Bonus Meal. No take home, no dishes. One meal and done…
  • Your "super frustration" level is too low. As you learn more about real, sustainable weight loss you may gain an appreciation for patience.
