Take a cooking class! The high end groceries offer them, and sometimes they're mixers (assuming you're single). Learn to handle a knife properly and make one or two basics, like a stir fry or healthy pasta. Grill out when the weather allows. Your work is creative and so is cooking. When you're at the grocery shop the…

I'll spare you the "1200 calories isn't enough" speech. BUT - if you change your weight loss goal to 1lb per week you can enjoy some different foods and snacks. Pop over to the Recipes board and find some family friendly meals. I'm guessing you're feeding the kids something different; no 5yo I've known would eat grilled…

Any drugstore will have Nature Made or store brand potassium, as potassium gluconate, and it is in most multi vitamin-mineral pills. Potassium iodide is used to deliver iodine for thyroid disorders or to counteract the results of radiation. I suppose this product is for the latter. Be careful with potassium…

Everyone has a family member like that. In my experience it's someone who has internal conflicts about their weight. It's their insecurities being reflected on you. I sometimes feel this way with my own daughter. I don't think I'm attractive but she is beautiful. Funny thing is, she's my clone! Clearly I'm the one with the…

Pulled pork is a household favorite, rubbed with kosher salt and smoked paprika. We freeze it in muffin tins for single portions. Also, Santa Fe Chicken. http://www.skinnytaste.com/2009/02/crock-pot-santa-fe-chicken-425-pts.html

Did you catch the part about 50 high school students going along on the trip? Beer is definitely a good idea!

Read through the Recipe board, especially the daily "What's for Dinner?" posts. Also, try http://www.skinnytaste.com/. Oatmeal for every meal? You're kidding, right?

Crisp bacon is 45 calories per slice. You don't count the fat if you didn't eat it, right?

You handled this perfectly, IMO. Hopefully the man at the register is either a manager or speaks to the manager. The waitress probably didn't want to be bothered to go back to the kitchen to pick up your lunch. When she said "Oh you have no self control?" I would have said "Yes, I do, which is why I'm ordering off the…

Drinking my husband's bourbon and eating my daughter's snacks. I don't need either in my body and hopefully they will be more accountable when they can't blame me for dipping in.

I log dinner first and work backwards. Then I can figure out the rest as I go. Dinner is usually a family meal and made by others about half the time so I don't have complete control.

The barcode scanner doesn't always give the correct info - I used it on the manicotti shells and it was totally off. Someone posted the other day that she always uses the barcode scanner and then enters the data for the prepared dish because it's "so much more convenient".

Please share the recipe. Sounds yummy.

This is such a small difference I wouldn't worry. As others have said it could be a difference between international / US or even different packaging. I went looking for Barilla manicotti today and found a listing for the the completed recipe showing 130 calories per serving. That's a mere 90 calories off. I just wonder…

There's been a lot on this topic today. The best advice is to check a chain restaurant site for a similar dish (I assume the place you're going doesn't have nutrition information). At Uno's the Chicken Milanese is 850kcal, 46 carbs, 50 protein, 56 fat. That's without bread or other sides.

Switch to kosher salt and put it in a pepper shaker (fewer holes), or block some of the holes in the salt shaker. It will take time to get over the habit of reaching for the shaker but you will be using less. Most savory recipes that call for salt actually intend kosher salt, which is a larger grain and less compact so…

A T-shirt. A stupid BoSox XL tee that didn't fit. It's super cute and I want to wear it to Fenway in July. And I will

Smothered pork chops Season 4 bone in center chops and brown over med-high heat on both sides When browned top with 1sliced onion, rings separated Add 11/2 cup broth (I use 2 parts chicken and 1part beef) to the pan and bring to a boil Reduce heat and simmer covered 20min. Onions and pork will be tender. Remove chops and…

If you like fruits try sweet potatoes. Baked or microwaved they are gently sweet and creamy. They also make rockin' oven fries. Don't stress too much about the veg vs. fruit thing. They're one food group for a reason.

You likely order from the same place every time, so get the menu in advance and look for the diet/steamed section. Chicken or shrimp with veggies and black bean sauce is awesome and so much more appetizing than the fried sweet and sour. Specify sauce on the side and brown rice, if you like it. Soup is another good option.…

Have you tried SlowFE (or similar brand)? It breaks down in the intestines rather than the stomach. Second the dry cereal. Yes, it's a processed food but it has tons of vitamins and is easy on the tummy.

Most hotels have mini-fridges for the asking, first come first serve. If all else fails grab an extra yogurt and a HB egg from the breakfast table and put them in the ice bucket. I wouldn't rely on the coffee pot for hot water, unless you like coffee flavored oatmeal! Unless the hotel is in a totally out of the way place…

Invest in a meat thermometer - $10-15. It will save you from over/undercooking any kind of meat. For oven "fried" drumsticks dip in beaten egg white and roll in panko. Put a rack on a baking sheet (cookie cooling rack is great) and bake the chicken for an hour at 350 degrees or until temp is 165. My daughter likes these…

Roasted whole chicken Shrimp (frozen two lb bag is $7.00 on sale, compared to canned tuna at $3.20 per lb) Beans, lentils, grains Try the $10 Dollar Dinners from Melissa D'Arabian. They all serve 4 and the price point includes entree and two sides. The Game Day Chili is under 400 calories and costs around $1.25 per serving…
