  • I'm not sure I agree here either. Genetics isn't the problem: diet is. I haven't looked at your dairy but I'd be surprised if it was the sort of diet that keeps the fat off. Do you eat Olive Oil? Studies show that women who eat olive oil daily tend to be lighter (I'd have to do some searches to find them but you could…
  • These kinds of posts confuse me. Walking IS a good thing to do for fitness. No it isn't high intensity and no it isn't going to rip you up in a week but walking IS a good form of exercise and more people out to do it. Not everyone wants to run or hit the gym like a mad man (been there, done that).
  • Sorry, I don't agree at all. Why is it people think this? I knew a lady who was over 300 lbs and whom lost it all and REALLY trimmed up by walking and diet alone and that was 30 years ago. Nothing has changed. Walking CAN and will help a person lose body fat if they do it at a good pace and for extended periods and will no…
  • Since December 4th of last year I have walked 505 miles. I've lost 5+ inches off my gut alone. Don't listen to the naysayers, they are like jailhouse lawyers. fact is walking is an excellent form of exercise and uses the whole body. Swing your arms and walk faster, push yourself to walk further too. I walk 4.2 miles 3 to 5…
  • And to answer the question: I'm a guy and never gave much thought to my skin until I quit drinking the diet soda, then something strange happened: It wasn't so dry anymore! I had dry elbows and feet but that started to go away after I quit drinking so much diet soda -- went completely away wen I stopped my diuretic I took…
  • i wonder how many who've lost over 30 lbs this year still drink the stuff regularly? I've lost almost 50lbs (27 since started using MFP) and only drink it once a week when I play darts and then in moderation.
  • Cut that out and you might increase the weight loss. Studies have shown that regular pop drinkers tend to be obese.
  • We used to eat a lot of potatoes (we love them mashes with garlic seasoning and butter) but since have switched to whole grains like whole grain long and short brown rice, black rice, quinoa, wild rice, farro, wheat etc.
  • :) Perhaps something to consider is your fiber intake and sodium. Check those and work to improve them with your changing diet (might even help me to change mine more often! lol). I think that the key is to avoid 'white death': white rice, white flour products, may/mireacle whip, full fat white dressings, potatoes, white…
  • Good post however, on a side note there are things in Soda that are hard on the body and it should not be used as a method of hydration -- actually, it should be avoided by anyone trying to lose weight -- and diet is not better.
  • Nonsense. You body DOES NOT want to be fat but your diet isn't the best and as such it will fight you all the way.
  • From a dietary view point I'd say first glance suggests not enough fiber in your diet (you need about 25g's daily -- women) and a lot of refined sugars/processed foods and such. I noticed one day you had 5 TBS of Ranch Dressing which is a lot of calories (about 500 I think) for something that won't make you feel very full…
  • Water is water HOWEVER Hydration is not only water. So are you asking because you feel the need to drink plain water for weightloss or health reasons? Or are you asking for hydration reasons? The idea that someone needs 8 glasses of 'water' per day was really not about 'water' but rather hydration and all things a person…
  • Final for June (I didn't know this thread existed but have been walking and biking since December and February): 79.59 miles walking 80.69 miles biking Total since Dec 4th 2012: 931.5 miles :D
  • Aint that the truth! I see it as a constant fight! I dropped to 233 12 days ago, then rose back up a bit and then dropped back down to it. Sometimes I 'KNOW' I'm going to start dropping again and other times I just look at the numbers and tell myself: next week. Constant battle but once you begin to accept that it takes…
  • How much over? MFP sets protein at a paltry 15% which I think is very low. I adjust mine to 25% with fat at 20% and this has worked VERY well but I don't eat much in the way of simple carbs (some, not much).
  • MFP does not include work out calories in it's calculation of your daily goal. If you don't do anything else then it should be set to 'sedentary'. All calories burned can then be eaten back so I'm confused why you say 1400 a day if you do 4 work outs and 7 for more since MFP doesn't work that way. Take the workouts out of…
  • Also, don't forget to double check your goals. Make sure you use sedentary if you work a desk job no matter how much you work out -- your weight training and cardio do not count towards your base calories -- that's why MFP lets you 'eat them back'.
  • Still a short time but perhaps open your diary (I'll go see if it's open as soon as I finish this post) so we can look. Carbs aren't bad though excessive simple carbs IS bad. So be sure to stay away from 'What Death' as we used to call it when I was body building (many years, in fact some decades, ago): White Bread, White…
  • It is not uncommon to gain and then lose or for that matter to lose and then gain and then lose...and so on. 3 weeks isn't really a good measure unless perhaps you are perfect and 100% accurate in all areas of a perfect program *snicker*. Chances are you just need to remain positive and hang in there. UNLIKE TV, weight…
  • *chuckle* but don't always assume someone's tag is accurate. I'm at 50lbs from my start but I started using MFP only 27lbs ago -- though, admittedly my own idea of how to lose weight has changed only slightly since using MFP.
  • Good advice -- though I like to eat back most of my exercise cals I also know and can attest that my best weight loss is when I do not.
  • Excellent post!
  • Perhaps, it ought to be 'low simple carbs' because without complex carbs you will be hard pressed to get enough fiber (25g per day for women) and the energy and almost anti glucose benefits that come with whole grains (complex carbs). Furthermore you story of gaining it back seems typical for diets that deprive an…
  • Isn't that a snake touching you? Being intimate with your husband means touching -- perhaps you aren't in love with him? I don't mean to be harsh, so please don't take it that way but I don't understand not wanting to be intimate with a man you've professed deep love for (marriage is about that at least in part right?)
  • I feel compelled to reply. My wife is beautiful. Seriously! She's a head turner. When she walks into a bar people (men and women) notice her! Men will hit on her (and she won't see it I might add) and she is amazing in so many ways (inside and out). She's got it! And she has THE SAME problem you do. No matter what I say…
  • 1st get a new doctor. 2nd, take a deep breath and tell yourself this: I did it once, I can do it again and better this time because I have experience! The body is programmed to respond to a famine (dieting is a famine to the body) by gaining back the weight it lost and then some. It's a protection mechanism and the only…
  • I've started drinking Cryosports protein shakes you can buy at Costco for a pretty decent price. 27g protein and 140 cals
  • Do you mean curls? When I first read this I didn't catch exactly what you meant -- can't advise on weight anyway since I have no idea what you are capable of but it would be good to know what you are doing here?
  • I should add that on heavy sessions I always increased my rest between sets to a minute or two and on cutting sessions cut that down to 30 seconds or less and went for high intensity. it's really all a matter of the overall purpose in the end.
