Ahhh. Sorry didn't catch that. I also think docs tend to prescribe things the pill making industry pumps to them...that's been my experience when dealing with High Blood Pressure....today I don't take the pulls and have much better BP but then I also got into eating better and losing the weight etc etc

Do you tent camp? Trailer? Cabin? Car? That can make a difference. Do you have a jetboil or similar stove? I take oatmeal (not instant) and cook it at the cabin instead of the old eggs and bacon and pancakes I used to cook ;) For lunch I try to make sandwich wraps with healthier wraps (lower sodium higher fiber if…

I don't eat Taco Bell that's why I lose weight ;) OK, not entirely but I don't eat fast food AT ALL because it isn't food it's entertainment.

I've lost 45 lbs in 7 months by eating back my exercise calories -- why does this work? In my opinion it's because your body sees 1200 calories per day as a famine and reacts to famine the same way always: a) reduce metabolism, eat muscle and hang in their until the famine is over b) when famine ends eat all you can, gain…

Fast food = not food at all. This is the problem with America and American's: we think we can eat crap and get away with it.

Great post! I agree 100%!

I've had bad lawyers who had more years of education. PEOPLE are, well, people and there are good ones and not so good ones. Moral of the story is that just because someone has a degree in something does not mean they are actually good at it. Just sayin'

This is one of the reasons I support eating your exercise calories :) If you do a lot of cardio I think it's quite safe and even agreeable to crank up the calories to match or closely match as the body then thinks "yay! I'm not starving!" When I was body building we used to do a 10% under/over diet to lose bodyfat. What…

Sometimes a mechanic who's been a mechanic for 20 years is a just a bad mechanic with 20 years experience at it. Perhaps seeking others advice from other 'experts' is a good idea. I for one do not assume a doctor is a good doctor just because he/she has a degree etc, life has taught me better then that. So, what's the…

All calculators are not created equal but I don't agree with MFP's at all. Look at them more closely and you will note that they are generic. Example is that they have 3mph, 3.5mph and 4mph and then you choose minutes at that pace. Well 50 minutes at 4mph is quite a bit different then 50 minutes at 3.75mph so if you round…

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR); the number of calories you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day. Your daily caloric needs (the calories you burn in a normal day without exercise) are calculated by multiplying your BMR times your activity level using the following: Harris Benedict Formula To determine your total daily calorie…

Mine is 2105.92 which then must be multiplied by your activity level which in my case is 1.2 leaving me with a daily caloric need of 2527 calories. MFP tells me it should be 2450 so I know that my daily caloric needs are somewhere in there (more likely 2527 since I trust the calculator more). Now that I know that (I did…

I drink 12oz of pure water in the am first thing (Hungry for Change -- the movie -- gave me that idea) then a cup of coffee (8oz) with cream and agave and then 24oz of a drink mix (ACT - Advanced Cellular Technology powder and purified water) then later can drink anywhere from 16 to 32oz or more of water or watered down…

Every day in the morning right after I get up (after nature is satisfied of course). Only other time I might get on a scale is after a long bike ride to see what kind of water weight I've lost (I can lose a couple pounds sometimes but usually only when I'm not well hydrated it seems). Many say don't do it daily but I'm a…

For me this is often caused by an increase in sodium levels when I'm not paying attention (water weight). In order to gain 2lbs in a week you must consume 7000 calories OVER your BMR+cardio which is alot. So it is more then likely 'water weight' and a strict watch on sodium as well as increased water intake (unless on a…

One thing to remember is that you must calculate your BMR correctly first. That is your Basal Metabolic Rate which is based on age, gender, weight and activity. So, for example as a 47 yr old male who's 234lbs and works at a computer all day (you do not include exercise) I need/ burn 2440 calories per day. So, to lose 2lbs…
