  • I would cut back on the beer. It's empty calories. You'd be surprised how much weight you'll lose just by cutting it out (except on special occasions, of course social drinking is fine... maybe on Friday or Saturday nights have a beer or two but the rest of the week avoid as much as possible). The "beer belly" will slowly…
  • Good for you for logging it. I keep seeing posts from people who take a day or two (or more) off and eat stuff they shouldn't and don't log what they eat. It's always better to know how much you ate so you can plan ahead to burn it off. It might take a little longer because of the setback, but it's not really good to lose…
  • No more "diets" just use portion control. Be aware of how much you're eating (a lot of people get seconds or thirds of their favorite foods and that adds up quickly, not to mention high-calorie desserts and huge portions at restaurants). And be sure to exercise most days a week. It burns calories, builds muscle, and…
  • Tap water. I live in Northern California so it's usually good. SoCal water often tastes like chlorine, at least where I used to live.
  • Sunday is my rest day (no workout) but I hat a lot of sweets this past weekend. But it was Easter so I don't think I'll be doing that very often. We usually have pizza night once a week and then every other Sunday is brunch were we have family over and there's a lot of chips and junk food out. I just have to make sure I…
  • I'm 5' 4" and my goal is 125. No, I don't think the numbers matter as much as overall health/fitness/toning, but a goal gives people motivation because then they can look at the scale each week and see how close they've gotten. And if they get a week where they have zero loss or gain a pound they can look at their diary…
  • I hear that it's best to eat back half of your exercise calories (+ goal for the day). So if you burn 400 calories and your goal is 1200 then you'd eat (400/2) + 1200 calories = 1400 calories for the day. Some people say to eat back all of them but you have to remember that the food calories might be slightly…
  • Between 10 and 20. At 10 lbs my face looked a lot thinner which is good because my glasses used to look too small on my face from the weight I'd gained and my eyes looked too close together. By 20 lbs my relatives all noticed. I think it's because I never got bigger sized clothes (all my clothes are in the size I was when…
  • There is a burn rate but part of the formula is how much someone weighs. Someone who weighs 110 is going to burn fewer calories running a mile than someone who weighs 220 lbs. MFP takes that into consideration. I notice that I didn't burn as many calories this week as I did last week because I lost two pounds.
  • I'll be 27 in August... I guess I'm still technically in my mid 20s but not for much longer.
  • I would log them anyway. It will help you learn from your mistakes and it will also help you determine how much you went over by. Some restaurants have super high calories. Like 3,000 for one entree (not including salad/soup, dessert, drinks or any other meals that were eaten that same day)! Those high numbers are…
  • Maybe have what they feed you but in smaller portions? I was surprised to hear that some celebrities eat whatever they want... they just have small portions and of course they exercise. It is really difficult to stay motivated when your family isn't being supportive or is being very negative. :frown: I would stay away from…
  • Not on here but I used to get them on Yahoo! Messenger from time to time. Lately if I login there all I get are these bots where these women want me to watch them on their camera (you can tell by their responses that they're not reading what you write and it's automated). First of all, I'm not interested. And secondly,…
  • Discipline: keep watching what you eat/rarely go over your limit + exercise Patience: there will be some weeks where you don't lose as much weight as you want to, and you need to keep going even if you have some plateau weeks.
  • I never heard of this before but it makes sense. I think it depends on the person and their weight distribution. How much weight are they losing? And how much weight is in their feet?
  • Great job!
  • It can actually be good to have days like this every once in a while because it's a change for your body so it won't go into plateau mode. I say log it and keep moving forward. Just make sure your "cheat day" isn't going *too* far over. I've heard of people going 3,000-6,000+ over their daily limit: they went crazy and had…
  • I'm not naturally thin but the people I know who are thin can either eat as much as they want or they are thin because they don't eat much. They like food but don't LOVE food so they're never tempted to overeat. They eat some food until they don't feel hungry and then that's it. They also don't really like sweets.
  • I've never smoked but from what I hear, the beginning is the hardest. E-cigarettes, patches, the liquid cigarettes at 7-Eleven (supposed to be really good and it's not expensive to use), and chewing gum can be helpful when transitioning off cigarettes. Some people quit cold turkey while others slowly decrease the number of…
  • Mine is 5 lbs more than when I graduated from high school, but I might change it later. It will depend on how I look as I lose more weight.
  • Fruit and juice. They will help eliminate sugar cravings. Juice helped me a lot when I quit drinking soda.
  • Nice job everyone! :D
  • Good job! :)
  • If you eat smaller portions at meals then you should still be under your Calorie limit. I think this habit will fix itself as the baby gets older and doesn't wake up every few hours. Then you can just go to bed and you won't be awake to eat anything.
  • What about Insanity or P90X? I think P90X requires extra equipment but Insanity just needs a room of empty space to move around in. I hear it's very intense but the people who complete the program are stronger and glad they did. There are girls who did Insanity who couldn't do a pushup at the beginning and now can do a lot…
  • Counseling is a good idea to help you work things out. It sounds like he is tired and stressed just like you are, but he is not handling it in the best way. It sounds like he's taking it out on you. Yes, it's sad to have a spouse put on weight (both men and women), but he is supposed to be supportive. Why not exercise…
  • That's good for you but some people are used to eating constantly and spending most of the day sitting down and don't move around much. My teenage brother is one of those people. At Disneyland last month, we had just eaten lunch and he was already wanting to stop for a churro or a bag of chips. People like that need to…
  • Drink plenty of water. Cut out soda. Cut out salty and sugary snacks. Eat smaller portions at mealtimes. Exercise plenty. Remember that 1200 is the net count, meaning you can add on whatever you burn off. Zumba is fun and burns lots of calories.
