Almost certainly, you are either under-estimating what you are eating (weigh everything you eat -- even packaged food is usually a bit more than it says on the package) or over-estimating the number of calories you are burning (estimates of exercise calories from online calculators are very rough, and even estimates from…

Sounds like it's sugar rather than cereal you are craving, given that list, so try to avoid giving in often. Consider these cereals to be treat foods, just like chocolate and icecream, and eat them at the same times you might otherwise eat those (i.e. dessert, not breakfast). In the morning, try healthy cereals, and enjoy…

I have now had a sit/stand desk for three weeks and I'm really enjoying it. It has a motor built in so I can adjust the height easily and sit when I want to. Most days, I stand until lunchtime, sit in the tearoom while eating lunch, stand at my desk until 2 or 3 p.m., sit for 20-30 minutes, and stand again until I go home…

Try replacing oats with bran and canned tuna with fresh fish (e.g. microwavable frozen fish fillets - no batter or crumbs, though!). If you don't like cereals at all, you could replace the oats with wholegrain bread and the fish with steamed chicken, but neither would be quite as good.

Talk to your doctor about what can be done to stop or reduce the PMS. If you aren't trying to get pregnant, there are lots of options.

On the numbers you give for bust, waist and hips, hourglass or straight, but you add that you're 44 around your bum: that's your real hip measurement - the widest point. Waist is another that is often measured incorrectly - it should be just below your navel, which is only your narrowest point if you are lean. If like most…

I agree with those who have said it probably doesn't matter much whether you log green vegies and tomatoes, but does matter more for most fruit and certainly for potatoes. I've been thinking of ceasing logging of skim milk. I don't enjoy milk much and so I often really resent calories from milk, but I know I need much more…

Fruit (perhaps as a fruit salad) A glass of milk with a few drops of vanilla essence A single square of good chocolate Sugar-free jelly/jello

How long have you been on MFP? 15 months, though I've had a couple of one-month breaks within that. How many calories a day do you eat without exercise calories? 1000-1200 Do you eat your exercise calories? Yes

Banana icecream. Peel, cut into chunks, and freeze bananas. Blend them with 1 tbsp nonfat yoghurt per large banana. That's it! Now you have smooth, creamy, sweet icecream! You can vary it by adding other fruit (berries, mango, whatever you like) or some ground almonds or chopped walnuts or cocoa.

Couch 2 5k is a good program that many people have used. Another option if you have a decent sized hill near you - which I have found helpful - is to take a brisk walk up the hill every day and run down. As you improve, keep running on the flat when you get to the bottom, to extend the duration. Aim to keep your heart rate…

One more thing: make sure you drink plenty of water before and after your workout (and during, if it's a long workout).

I don't think it has anything to do with protein. Strength work that you're not used to can do this. Doing a "cool down" (i.e. don't stop exercising all at once) after heavy exercise helps, as does building up the muscle work gradually.

I often eat half my day's calories at around 8pm, so I'm still full at bedtime. It works for me. I have something to look forward to, to keep me going all day, and I go to bed satisfied.

Realising that my shirts no longer fit because they were too tight in the sleeves. I knew my bum was big, I knew I was getting a belly, but realising that I had fat arms was the last straw.

Are they saying that unsweetened tea is LESS healthy than sweetened tea, or just that it isn't as healthy as water? The first makes no sense. The 2nd might be true, since tea has caffeine, but there's also some evidence that it might help prevent cancer. Either way, it isn't bad: certainly better than almost anything else…

Oatmeal is very, very good for you. Whole wheat is good, too. Margarine, like any fat, should be eaten only in small amounts - olive oil, fish oil or avocado would be better sources of fats.

What percent of customers would have to have a negative spend (less than zero $) if it were normally skewed, with that standard deviation?

Herbs, spices, spice mixes, dukkuh, marinades and rubs. Fresh salsa instead of tomato sauce/ketchup. For an alternative "something" to have on meat, also try green peppercorns or garlic or sauteed mushrooms or onions.

I don't log dishes, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom. I do log getting up on the roof and cleaning the solar panels, moving all the furniture and scrubbing the floor and anything that really feels like exercise. If I spend 8 hours day on my feet in the kitchen cooking a dinner party extravaganza, I'll log a few hours of…

I'm an environmental research scientist. Obviously, nutrition and physiology aren't my areas of expertise, but I do like to know that my dietary information has solid scientific backing, as there is so much mumbo jumbo out there! I think I have a pretty good eye for what is legitimate science and what is nonsense, and I…

Vets are very well paid, so the loans might take care of themselves fairly quickly. If you are going to move, now (while your kids are so young) is probably the best time. You'll enjoy it, enjoy the career at the end, and inspire your children to do well in school.

Here's an article from Choice, with advice from the Australian Institute of Sports, which you might find interesting: http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/food-and-health/food-and-drink/nutrition/protein-bars-and-shakes.aspx The verdict: With a few exceptions (marathon runners, body builders and adolescent elite…

Even 5 or 10 minutes a day is better than nothing. 5 minutes of step-ups or rope jumping can burn a surprising number of calories, and is something you can easily do while watching the kids (or with them, if they are old enough).

Protein shakes are probably useful if you are doing a lot of weight training and want to bulk up. For the rest of us, they are best avoided. Eat real food. Not too much.

I typically have 300-400 calories for breakfast, 300 for lunch, and around 800 for dinner. With a hearty dinner to look forward to, I don't feel deprived.

Of course you still burn calories when you are over the recommended heart rate zone. You burn more than you burn at a lower heart rate, and you also increase your cardiovascular fitness. The main problem is that a greater proportion of the calories you burn come from muscle mass rather than fat. You probably still lose…

I save a lot of my calories for the evening and have dinner fairly late so I have a good dinner to look forward to all day and don't go to bed hungry. I don't mind being a little hungry during the day - there's still something to look forward to later - but if I find it really demoralising to finish the day hungry.

Sorry for my earlier reply - I missed the follow-up about your bf's health. Some ideas: * Chilli beef with beans (made with lean beef and no added fat, or just chilli beans and no meat for an even lower fat version). Spice it up to make it extra "manly" and serve on its own, or with a brown rice. Try a little non-fat…
