Which, you will see in my comment above, I have done. My TDEE if I don't exercise is only 1450. Of course, I do exercise, so it is higher - and MFP calculates that for me each day given how much exercise I do. I've been netting 1000-1200 calories since January, and have lost weight consistently over that period (41 pounds…

The number of calories in an entry is the number of calories per serving. The serving size varies, though: in some cases, it will be for the whole dish, in other cases just half a cup. For each entry, the serving size is specified, and usually, there is also some indication of how many servings per "container" or dish. For…

I'm 5'2" and the calculator to which you link estimates my BMR as 1269, but the one here on MFP (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/tools/bmr-calculator) gives me an estimate of 1161. The difference is well within the margin of error of both methods. To maintain my current weight without exercising, MFP estimates that I'd need…

I haven't been aiming for it specifically, but I've noticed that my resting heart rate has dropped from around 60 at the start of my diet (January) to around 50 as of the last few days. I've been exercising around 2 hours per day, so I guess it's that and the weight loss that have brought it down.

The real reason that 1200 is recommended as a minimum is that it is very hard (almost impossible) to work out a diet that has all the nutrients recommended (vitamins, minerals, protein and essential fats) on less than 1200 calories per day. It isn't really about calories per se, though it is important not to go too low on…

I assume you are eating back all your exercise calories? If so, how are you estimating your exercise calories? If you are using the MFP estimates, they may not be right for you - you could invest in a heart rate monitor that will give a more accurate estimate, or you could try eating back only half your exercise calories…

I find it helps to put on the warm clothes before I get cold: once I'm already cold, they scarcely seem to help. If you have cold feet, don't underestimate the power of wearing a beanie and a warm coat - your body withdraws blood from hands and feet to keep your centre warm, so it won't do that so much if you are looking…

BMI is fairly accurate for most people, but there are exceptions: muscular people such as athletes will have BMIs that suggest they are overweight when they aren't. But also bear in mind that most overweight people don't realise that they are overweight. If in doubt, ask a doctor, or get your % body fat professionally…

I've lost about 18kg (ticker says 17, but that's because I started my diet a little before I joined MFP). I've lost 2.5 cup sizes (as well as a band size or two), bringing me to a B. It is the weight in my case, since I've never had kids. But honestly, it doesn't bother me. If it is bothering you, perhaps it would be worth…

The order of your meals doesn't matter, but make sure the balance is right. Many of us get most of our vegetables at dinner time, so make sure you are still getting your vegetables somewhere in your day!

The flab on my legs was the last to go, but it did go, in the end. In the meantime, try DUO Boots (http://www.duoboots.com/) they have a great range of high boots that will fit your legs.

I'll be logging over Christmas (it's good to know what I am doing), but I'll aim for maintenance for the week around Christmas, and not worrying about the count at all on the day itself. Then back to loss mode after Boxing Day.

Gouda is very similar to cheddar, so anything you'd do with cheddar, you can do with gouda. It goes well with beer :)

How about Sanitarium no added salt peanut butter? Or just blend your own peanuts in a food processor (you might need to make a large batch for it to work, unless you have a small processor).

It is a big difference, but not a compliment, and very rude. Her reply was deliberately rude to point that out - she didn't except an answer: she expected to make him stop and think what he was asking. I'd much rather tell people (outside this forum) how much I weigh now, at a healthy weight, than how much I have lost (and…

My understanding of a jogger is someone who runs for fitness or for fun - nothing derogatory about it. If you say "runner", I'll think of either someone who is running to deliver a message, or else an Olympic foot racer.

When you exercise, your blood vessels widen to keep your blood pressure down while your heart beats faster. When you suddenly stop, you can get a sudden drop in blood pressure (and hence dizziness) if your blood vessels don't constrict fast enough. So try winding down gradually - e.g. winding down from a run with a fast…

Could it be a posture issue? Do you still get that if you stand tall and straight?

Personally, what works for me is a breakfast of 250-300 calories (e.g. oat porridge with fruit and a glass of skim milk) if I am eating *only* 1200 calories in a day, increasing to 400 (e.g. adding some nuts to the porridge) on a day with some exercise (so I'm eating around 2000 calories over the day) and 500 (e.g. bacon…

I told a young male colleague, "you look hot." It was a warm day. He looked as though he was feeling the heat. I only realised what I'd said because of the odd look he gave me. I explained what I'd meant, but he said "no, not particularly." So I don't think he believed me.

What are you eating for lunch? Try something with more protein, less simple carbohydrates. E.g. instead of a jam sandwich, consider a boiled egg, sliced meat or tin of tuna with salad. Or have a sandwich, but halve the bread and double the (healthy) filling. And try a small handful of nuts or a couple of dry oatcakes as an…

I'm even sillier. I weigh myself after my cycle home from work, before I shower (don't want the weight of water in my hair - haha) and then again after I shower (just in case I lost some dirt weight). The silly part is that I don't let myself have a glass of water until after I've showered and weighed myself, because I…

Almost certainly not. See #3 here: http://www.cracked.com/article_19177_5-shocking-ways-you-overestimate-yourself.html

I disagree on the word "diet" - I don't think it means you plan to lose weight then go back to eating crap. I don't follow any particular rules, just limit the calories, get lots of exercise, make sure I eat a healthy breakfast most days, and try to eat more vegetables and nuts and less confectionery than I used to.

This isn't something I know anything about, so I'm just throwing out ideas here. Perhaps you could start by withdrawing some of that unhealthy stuff and offering healthier versions of the things she does eat. Mashed potato (without butter or salt) instead of french fries. Steamed sweet potato instead of sweet potato fries.…

Try adding more exercise to the mix, to give yourself more leeway. Try eating less (but not nothing - just a little less) on the days when you don't have social events, so that it averages out to your target over the week. Keep in mind that even though you've decided to eat something, you don't have to eat the entire…

Mine were saggy for a little while after I lost a lot of weight and dropped a couple of bra sizes, but they have tightened up on their own since. :) Just wait another couple of months and see.

I agree with those who have said reduce the sugar and use lite cream cheese. You could also omit the crust entirely - just line the dish with baking paper. It'd be a little harder to serve, but you'd get most of the taste. If you use a larger dish (and make the cheesecake shallower), you can more easily cut smaller slices…

My mouse is about the size of what I'd consider a large potato - not a huge potato, but not a small one, either. But who is more familiar with the volume of a poker chip than they are with a teaspoon? And why a cassette tape rather than something a similar shape to a dinner roll (maybe a peach)?

When it's frosty outside, I sometimes wear a light lycra balaclava - they cover your ears and more. A balaclava with the face open is best, as it doesn't obstruct breathing.
