  • Thanks for all the replies! Tagged this one for future study. Was hoping to find more specific studies that have been done on different styles of lifting, diet, etc. and how that effects strength vs. size. Clearly, there are a lot of people out there who are not very big but can lift an immense amount of weight. Would be…
  • I think this is the basic idea behind cheat days/meals. Cheat days are basically just about eating back the calories you didn't eat during the week. People still lose weight while having them - I certainly have. One one hand, it might encourage a "diet mentality" but on the other hand, when you were used to eating "cheat…
  • I'm 160 right now. Have no clue what my BF% is but there is a lot of jiggle. Based on pictures I've seen, I would estimate around 25%. Was originally 210 in January 2013 and I lost 50 lbs by simply dieting and then later on, by running. I haven't done any weight lifting since I started weight loss since I had interpreted…
  • Is your father a terrorist? Because you are the bomb.
  • Moved to SoCal from Michigan and then got a job in NorCal. So far, I'm enjoying not being in a polar vortex.
  • Someone who was conservative/Republican. That definitely can't work.
  • I just recently learned that it was possible to keep the muscle you have by lifting while dieting to lose fat specifically. Since starting my weight loss journey, I've lost about 50 lbs but after I started rock climbing, I realized very quickly that I had lost quite a bit of strength in the process. I don't know what my…
  • Thank you to everyone for the replies! Makes sense that it would take some experimentation to find out what works for me. samw86 - I am very short (5' 7") so that's why my limit is much less than most guys on here.
  • I'm in the same position, actually. I hit my original goal of 160 on the weekend but realized that I am still very overweight. Time to keep going, I guess.
  • Are you having trouble losing weight or are you worried about the spread? The spread will always be there, mainly because of water weight fluctuations. But if you're talking about a weight loss plateau, it could mean that you're scale is wacky (like mine) or that you're not counting all the calories you're eating. For me,…
  • I can't say I have any experience with eating disorders but try to think of clean eating as a lifestyle instead of a "cut". It just seems like a much more healthy mindset. Either way, I'm glad you've made the change. Keep it up! It only gets better from here!
  • Are you wearing a confederate flag bikini?
  • Another thing to consider is that you might be logging too many calories expended for your days in the gym. Weight training doesn't burn anywhere near as many immediate calories as cardio in the same amount of time.
  • They're just low calorie noodles that are made from yams. They come in these water filled bags that smell absolutely disgusting when you first open them so you have to wash and dry them before eating. So far they've worked really well for me. You can add different sauces and spices and its an effective substitute for pasta.
  • The changes in water weight is why I would suggest weighing yourself once a week and not everyday.
  • It's definitely an interesting calculation. I never really thought about it this way. But according to this calculation, my TDEE is way too high to be real. I'll have to be more diligent in my recording for the next few months and then check again. TDEE = 2552. Absolutely cannot be true, though. Based on this, 2552 with a…
  • I'm not necessarily talking about marriage but let me just say this. Just because things were done a certain way in the past, does not mean that they were the correct way to do things.
  • I'm not at my goal weight and I don't have my goal body but I can sympathize. While you have a goal and you have a purpose, every inch towards it feels amazing. It's probably why they always say it's the journey and not the destination that matters the most. Once you reach your goal, now what? Search for another goal, I…
  • LOL. Just LOL.
  • I feel for you ladies. It's sad that you've had to go through what you've gone through. :( On the other side, I wish I got half the attention you gals are getting.. I've lost 30 lbs and nobody's giving me a second look haha
  • Hello! I don't think you'd need to alter your calories at all. I checked out that TDEE that someone else mentioned and at least for me, it doesn't seem to be any different than what MFP gave me. However, considering that hunger is the main obstacle to staying your 1200 calorie course, I just thought I'd pop in and give you…
