Totally personal preference. I exercise at 5:30 am and can't stand to eat that early. So I work out and eat around 8 or 9 am. No issues. It's totally what works for you.

Love avocados. Eat a whole one every chance I get. Hasn't impeded weight loss at all ;)

"I'd rather be X than not enjoy life" Answer: "I am totally enjoying my life, so no worries! It may not be enjoyable for you - but it is for me, so you enjoy <insert whatever is on the conversational table here> and I'm happy for you!" If they get shirty after that, a quick "hey, I'm totally not judging you, don't think…

I suggest one more contact - a quick email saying you are going to leave the ball in their court, won't try again, but that you sincerely do hope they reach out. And leave it at that and don't worry.

Ever though that the person in the wheelchair maybe got there because they were driving drunk and hit another car and killed three people and wound up in a wheelchair for life? So while you're denigrating the fat person (or society for allowing the fat person to be considered disabled) because they can 'do something about…

Depends on the oven. Most of mine have been like this -- you put the inner rack up high, turn it on broil, and the broiler is on the top. However, I had a gas range once that had a separate drawer on the bottom where you put the stuff to broil. I was always taught to keep the door cracked, and my ovens growing up allowed a…

Your body composition will help determine how your body looks when you're all done with the weight loss portion too -- so strength training can really help with that if you're concerned with being less flabby, as it allows the muscles underneath that flab to shine through and as the fat is burned, they are there to look…

I'm from the west coast -- to me bbqing is used when you use an outdoor grill to cook your food. All the southern people I work with flip out when I mention I'n barbecuing something because I'm apparently using it 'wrong'. Typically, broiling to me is when the heating element is above in the oven and it's super hot to cook…

As long as you keep under your calorie goal and are hitting all the right nutrients, why not have items like this at times? No need to demonize them. Now, if you are going over your calorie goal, not getting good nutrients overall, or just aren't feeling well eating these foods, then don't or moderate them even more.…

Stats: 5'1", age 44, female, sw: 291, cw: 174 Started my changes on February 23, 2013 Starting workout plan: 3x/week on treadmill at low mph, slowly increasing time to 30m and to faster speeds and varying inclines. A few months later, I added in elliptical and a couple months after that, I started weight machines. This…

All the 'that's too skinny' and 'I want my woman to have meat on her' sort of talk is just so ridiculous. We get it, everyone has preferences, but what if your 'woman' wanted to be 105 and got down there -- you going to stop loving her and wanting her? Bodies are bodies. They can be beautiful in all shapes, sizes, forms,…

I love bread, and I don't try to find a substitute for it -- I just eat less of it most the time. I love Dave's Killer Breads, but apparently we're not going to have those in TN, so I'll have to find something else. Though really what I like doing is making that 'healthy bread in 5 minutes a day' stuff - I use one of the…

that is awesome, well done!

I dice up sweet potatoes pretty small, put in a pan with a little bit of butter and let them cook until done (nice texture and I aim for a bit of browning too), then I add in some diced onions and garlic and red pepper, let those cook a few minutes until the onions are translucent or maybe even getting a bit brown, toss in…

First six months or so was about 10 pounds on average, but I started at almost 300 pounds as a 5'1" woman. Now I'm averaging 5-6 pounds a month, and I'm at 175 pounds. As I get lower, I know that will slow down even more, and I'm okay with that - my goal is to go down, not go down at a certain rate. (though don't get me…

Well done! I've been realizing the same thing -- I'm a 14 or 16 depending on the style and brand, and last month I had to do a lot of shopping. I hate clothes shopping (book shopping - I'm all done for that), especially being fat since it limits severely the styles, colours, and types of things you can get. I hate it even…

why don't you just weigh what you eat and use that for an accurate calorie count if you're worried about what you're not eating? So weigh the whole thing then weigh the leftovers, do the math, and voila. Or....just don't worry about it.

I can't even remember mine. Blocked out that horrible mistake of a marriage. But my friend's recessional was to the music from Snoopy's happy dance. It so fit her perfectly! For songs -- go with what means something to the two of you. Don't worry what others will think. It is your day. Your memory. Your commitment to one…

KUDOS! Very well done :)

Log it! You've earned it :) Just don't get down if one week it says a few above and another a few below....you do fluctuate naturally. Only get worried if it stays up and keeps going up for several weeks in a row, that's my philosophy. I tend to drop 3-6 pounds in a couple weeks, then spend 3 weeks not losing anything and…

Sizing really has changed. When I weighed around 115, I was a size 7...back in the late 80s. As I crept up into the 120s, I was 9/10 and even 11/12. I'm 5'1". Now, at 179, I'm in 14s for the most part, the occasional 16, depending on the cut. A size 0-4 would be under 110 at 5'1" in my experience, but I guess the sizes…

Nerd Fitness too -- their academy at least has full dumbbell workouts. And the main forums (free -- the academy is paid) has tons of people, tons of activity, tons of info - so you can find a lot there and on the NF site too.

On the "can't log it accurately bit" you reiterated -- again, estimate. Do it at home and get used to it. Know what a serving of chicken looks like and how many ounces or grams that is for you. Add a bit extra for eating out, I log a tablespoon of butter or oil a lot of times, just because I don't know what sauces and such…

Oh and the whole 'no one cares if I log' bit? Guess what? You're right. Because you're not logging for us. You're logging for YOU. Start using the tool the way it was intended. My diary was private for a year and is only now open to friends because I finally added some. I literally was here for the tool and for myself,…

You can log eating out. I eat out a ton because of my job, and I log everything that goes in my mouth. It's a matter of wanting to do it. Is it 100% accurate? Probably not, but I try to err on the side of overestimating for items I don't know. You can learn to cook. It's really easy. And for work lunches, you can take…

Same here. I think it's also a mental 'high' of 'damn right I did this, booyah!'

Not wearing perfume isn't sloppy -- it's a good thing. Between scents in detergents, lotions, shampoos, hair products, etc -- we have too many scents floating around, and most people tend to wear too much perfume and all those scents swirl around and clash. Ugh. I like quirky perfumes (black phoenix alchemy lab and the…

Absolutely. I was in pretty good health for being 5'1" and 291 pounds, but it still was taking its toll -- it was starting to get hard to move around, got winded easily, and while I hadn't gone to the doctor, I'm guessing I was pre-diabetic or close to it. I am now 179 and feel amazing. Seriously amazing. I loathe…

I am also a little of this, little of that person -- I mostly estimate my recipes as I do it, and for something low calorie (spinach), being off a bit isn't going to be killer, and for something higher calorie, I weigh it and get the right info in there. When I make it a second time, I may have used slightly different…

I do it all the time, and I find it very user friendly. So I'd say it's not the tool (MFP) that encourages the 'convenience' nutrition, but the user. I add in meals that I do frequently so I just have one click to do it later. I add in recipes I make so I can add those easily. I've been doing this a year now, and I have no…
