I'm working the evening so my boyfriend and I might go and get coffee/breakfast in the morning. We agreed no gifts. From reading the other posts, cards sounds like something sweet we could do but I'll talk to him about it. Our 4 year anniversary is on the 25th and we've made dinner plans. We usually just celebrate…

Sometimes I look at my junk food and go "I need to eat ALL of that so I can be good for the rest of the week!" and then I eat it. Packets of chips - gone. Cookies - gone. Chocolate - gone. Terrible, terrible. Mind you then I'm good for the rest of the week. Today I said to myself "Self, you can have two rows of chocolate…

I'm probably coming in just under the recommended amount. I have a big water bottle (probably about 800ml) and I try and drink two-three of these each day. If I'm at work we have little plastic cups of water and I down about 7 of them in a shift. Just find what works for you and after all with water, we could all use a…

I think it's great that you're arming her with all the information she'll need for later in life in regards to health and fitness. As long as she's active and knows vaguely what her calories are -- that's fine. There's no need to develop an unhealthy obsession. Self-confidence is really important in the coming years so…

I can't wait to hear how your marathon goes!

I use my phone as my alarm so I set multiple alarms about 5 minutes apart. There's nothing worse than hitting "STOP" and then curling up in bed about to fall asleep and there's another alarm. I get so annoyed that I just get up. I have about 4 alarms leading up to when I am supposed to wake up. I can put messages with my…

You'll find all the support and friendship you'll need right here on MFP! I'd recommend finding a gym in your area that has a friendly atmosphere (child care if you need it), a good range of fitness classes and great trainers. They can draw up a program for you to help you reach your goal by Valentine's Day 2012. I can't…

My name's Louise and I love Zumba :) I'm a "picky eater" and I can't stand onions (unless diced very finely), spices and most meats (duck, lamb, pork, veal). I eat mostly chicken with some fish and beef. My favourite part about my Zumba class is the instructor. I've had two really amazing ones. The first was super fun,…

I love PB but a whole diet? No thanks. If a whole community of people striving to be healthier and happier, tell you it's a bad idea, then it really *really* is a bad idea. Nobody on this site will try and persuade you to do anything that is unsafe because we're all after the same thing -- a lifestyle change because there…

I had held onto a few dresses and skirts that I loved wearing when I was smaller. I'm bigger now and now that my bones are reaching their adult shape (hello child-bearing hips) I most likely won't be that size again. I'm devastated that some of my favourite pieces are rendered useless. So I gave them to my much smaller…

Definitely book yourself in for a check-up. I had a similar thing happen to me and besides upping my exercise level, the only other cause I could think of was that I was on the pill and hadn't had my period in a while. (I had a few things come up forcing me to postpone having it for a while). I'm sitting on day three right…

Personally I think the classes are better but I'm biased. You should see if they have them in your area :)

My go-to is yogurt with cereal :) I love the Uncle Toby's Plus range of cereals especially the Essentials for Women and Protein Lift. I found I stay fuller for longer on the protein one. I just mix the cereal into the yogurt (tastes best with vanilla, strawberry, peach/mango etc). You could always add extra fruit or nuts…

Give yourself a cheat meal when you feel you need it like at a friend's birthday dinner or when you've had a terrible week and just want to eat really, really fatty food. (Note: I don't condone that coping mechanism but that's how I operate). If I'm going out to eat at lunch or dinner say to a restaurant or cafe with…

thanks ive heard of dance aerobics tried a couple and hurt my joints badly fab work out tho just wish i could handle the strain to my joints to do it more [/quote] Zumba actually has a lot of "low-impact" options for most of the routines. All you need to do is tell the instructors that you have joint problems and they'll…

I feel it's a personal choice. The way I see it is this: If you come home from burning those calories and you're famished, then have something filling and delicious to satisfy you howling stomach. If you're not hungry, drink water and don't do anything. Sometimes I'll eat into mine if I'm particularly ravenous. There's no…

Eventually you'll get to a point where you have to jog to keep up with the machine. I find it helpful to jog for a minute and then lower the machine's speed and walk for a minute as recovery. My personal trainer suggested that for me when I was just starting out with the treadmill. I'd never used one before! Good luck :)

A bowl of high fiber cereal usually does the trick for me.

I was thinking about easy lunches to take to university when classes resume next month. I had forgotten how good and versatile Pitas are!

Great article! My mum has a set of nesting bowls generally used for serving or snacks. The smallest is my go-to bowl for anything junk-food-y because when the bowl is full, I really feel like I'm pushing it if I go back for seconds. Weird how that works :)

Maybe you should try and find a new breakfast cereal? I was kind of into Uncle Toby's "Essentials for Women" for a while and I like their Honey Oat Cheerios (mostly in yogurt). I also like crumpets and toasts but I love me some carbs! Yogurt and cereal is generally my go-to. You could always add some maple syrup / honey to…

To get those calories up while you're in class, take things that can be eaten on the go like raisins, nuts, bananas, apples, oranges and snack bars. They have minimal waste and don't take up too much room in your bag. Maybe eating a big breakfast would help too? Maybe yogurt while you cook some eggs and toast? I like to…

I must be the only one but a plate of healthy veggies just doesn't fill me up. I find myself dealing with a growling tummy within the hour of finishing the meal. I chew slowly and all that jazz but I'm still hungry. I find the only thing that really fills me up is carbs. I love breads, cereal and pastas. I really dislike…

I don't really see the need to put my food diary under lock and key. Oh no, someone will say "YOU ATE CHIPS?! HOW DARE YOU!!" and I'll feel horrible about myself. I put explanations in my notes because sometimes I forget why I ate certain things. I put in if I miss lunch due to work being super busy or a big dinner because…

My trainer started me off with this program: 1 minute walking treadmill set to 6.00 1 minute jogging/running treadmill set to 7.00 or higher (repeat until clock hits 11 minutes) I'd never used a treadmill before and she encouraged me to just walk at a comfortable speed (for the first few weeks I used about 5.0) and then…

Zumba is super fun :) My housemate and I used to do it when we lived together. I'm planning on attending the class tomorrow morning at my gym. It really helps if you have a great instructor who gets really into it and if the steps aren't too confusing! I'm also hoping that one day when my boyfriend and I buy a Wii, that…

Weight Watchers is great! I found having to eat to a points schedule made snacking a lot harder for me. Sure, I could snack but then I might not be able to eat dinner if I snack too much or have take-out. I would definitely recommend trying it out. A local library should have an old copy of the points book. I don't think…

My boyfriend would have his alarm go off at 6am sharp when we were just going to spend the day cuddling in bed anyway. I was half asleep and I get cranky if I'm woken up, so I gave him a bit of a push to turn off the alarm. Maybe your lovely man could give you a light push too? Not the nicest gesture of love but one that…

Congratulations! That's an amazing achievement for your first week. I'm only new but I'm sure you'll find a wealth of support here, for the weeks to come :)

I love Subway. I would choose it over a burger and fries any day. My weakness is the meatball sub :) So warm and yummy! Yes, I have cheese and yes I have mayo. I do love the Veggie Delight with avocado if I'm feeling like a treat. In some restaurants you can get your sub made into a salad or a wrap for an extra $1. Maybe…
