Disrespectful and immature. Why did you even respond?

This is about where I'm at as well, I've lost a bit more than 100, but I think I have 50 to 60 to go.

Absolutely. For example: http://thrivingvegetarian.com/blog/reviews/review-of-gardein-ultimate-beefless-burger/ Gardein is generally amazing, I think most people would be very challenged to taste the difference. It was a big help to me in my initial transition to being vegan. Burgers and fries aren't something I eat all…

7 months ago I started getting bad chest pains even when just sitting stationary. Managing more than a moderate walk for a few minutes was impossible. I knew that sooner, rather than later, my lifestyle would kill me. I went vegan. Today I've lost just under 120 pounds, the chest pains are distant history and I am pursuing…

I had a lot to lose and initially lost weight very quickly after making a significant lifestyle change to a vegan diet. The loss started very quickly and has remained consistent over the 7 months I have been at it, with an average of about 16 pounds per month. There was a one month span where I only lost around 7 pounds as…

Waist.

I'm at 36" jeans presently myself and I am about 10-15 pounds into the obese category. It doesn't sound so crazy to me.

First of all, you're talking like a 2nd grader and only demeaning yourself as a result. You also never specified whether you are having issues with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. But either way, your one verbal example doesn't mean that type 2 diabetes isn't a preventable disease in the vast majority of cases. Your case may be…

Declaring something as true automatically makes it so... period. As others have said, we aren't all special snowflakes. Some of us are much more overweight than we realize, or are comfortable with admitting. BMI is a helpful general tool to give us an objective picture of whether we are overweight and roughly how far into…

So you just told me that four out of five people that get type 2 diabetes are overweight or obese, and that I am somehow wrong in my original statement that type 2 diabetes is caused by dietary choices. There may be other risk factors, sure, and not all overweight people get diabetes, but by your own figures a pretty…

I was responding to someone who has over 100 pounds to lose. You are speaking from your own experience being in the military and presumably very active with physical training that most people do not do. Those are two very different situations, and I think it is well known and acknowledged in this thread that BMI will not…
-
What are you even basing that on? By your own reporting you have over 100 pounds to lose. I've lost over 100 pounds and I can tell you it's hard to predict what your body will actually be like after that weight loss. Also, several people, (myself included) have pointed out that a range is provided for BMI precisely to…

I work out like that and I am obese. (albeit barely, at this point) I rode 50 miles in one sitting a couple of months ago when I weighed about 30 pounds more than I do now, and I regularly go on several hour bike rides at a 14+ mph pace. I am 6'2" and my goal is to weigh less than you do now. Maybe somewhere between 180…

In a country where 2/3rds of the population are overweight or obese, (thus establishing the norm) it doesn't surprise me that people who see themselves as at a normal weight would view a tool that paints a more objective picture with skepticism. I think it is a good tool in general. Consider that it accounts for variations…

Why? I go for long (20+ mile) bike rides about 4 times a week, with two weekend rides that are more like 30-40. I get around 35-50 grams of protein per day, making no specific effort to get "enough" protein. I don't understand why there is this fixation on this site with getting enough protein. How much do you think you…

Thank you both for your kind words.

If you go "vegetarian" by eating dishes that are loaded with processed grains, cheese, eggs and the like with minimal actual vegetables, fruits, grains and legumes you are probably doing it wrong. At least from a health and nutrition perspective.

I've been a vegan for a little over 6 months and as you can see from my ticker, it has been incredibly effective for weight loss. I think being a vegetarian can be very effective if the effort is planned well. You can be unhealthy on any diet, including a vegan one, if all you are eating is processed foods and other junk.…

You could try eating foods that are high in fiber, like avocados or prunes.

I took up cycling a few months ago and have been pursuing it seriously. I ride 400+ miles per month and try to get out 5 or 6 times per week for at least an hour or two per day. (More on the weekends) This has worked well for me because cycling does not require the rest that running would, (especially considering that I am…

I go on bike rides that are usually 2-3 hours long for most of my workouts, so I usually eat a full meal before I ride. I take a clif bar with me to eat during the ride if I get hungry in the middle of it, which I generally do.

Yes, it was delicious. The acid reflux and food coma, on the other hand... You know that tired cliche, eat to live, don't live to eat? It's good advice. I'm living by it now, and while sometimes old foods look appealing, the old weight never does. It's worth it, 1000 times over. I played baseball in high school and it has…

Congratulations on your inspiring success! What did you do to lose weight? Do you feel that dietary choices/restrictions had any effect on your outcome, or merely maintaining a caloric deficit and losing weight?
-
That's awesome, I have adopted a plant-based (sometimes but not always whole foods) diet myself, and you can see by my ticker that I have had incredible results in only 6 months. Keep it up! It has worked very well for me.

Yes. I meant per meal. Previously I was eating meals that could be over 1200 calories each, like a footlong big philly cheesesteak and chips from Subway. On average I eat something like 1600 or 1700 calories per day currently. I know that number will need to come up as I approach my goal weight, particularly considering…

As a vegan, I eat a low fat, high carbohydrate diet and I've lost 106 pounds in 6 months. This isn't even considering the non-scale ways that my health has improved. I think I will keep doing what I am doing.
-
I eat between 250 and 350 grams of carbs per day. I've lost over 100 pounds in 6 months. If you are not losing weight, it is not only because you are eating a lot of carbohydrates. Note that I avoid refined and processed carbohydrates and greatly prefer carbohydrates sources such as brown rice and whole wheat.

10 marathons.

Based on your ticker, you have far less weight to lose than I did. How can you say I am losing weight too quickly? You are just making that assumption because my level of success conflicts with your expectations. I am living a very healthy lifestyle while aggressively pursuing two sports. I would not be able to go on a 50+…

I've lost over 100 pounds in less than 6 months on a vegan diet. It is possible to gain weight and be unhealthy on a vegan diet, but a well-planned vegan diet that minimizes added fats and sugars has been very effective at reversing not only my obesity, but chest pains and poor health in general. It is possible to lose…
