Honestly, because this should be a *lifestyle change* rather than a crash diet, just start easing into some changes. Maybe instead of actively decreasing your carbs, work on increasing your protein while staying inside your calorie goals. If you make these changes gradually, 1) they'll be easier to maintain long term as…

Hopefully everyone will feel better and more able to cope after a good night's sleep. <3

You can *try* keto and see how it does for you, but thyroid disease comes hand in hand with rather a lot of digestive/gut problems. MANY (but certainly not all) thyroid patients do not absorb fats very well and end up getting... very loose stools... and others (like me) do not acidify very well in their stomach and end up…

I'm 42 and only casual about lifting, but without it, my "overweight" BMI would not make my doctor giggle/snort.

My blood pressure is ridiculous, so my extremities are cold pretty much year round, unless I sustain gentle movement to maintain circulation. I decided on the plan of action after reading the reviews on a lot of the under-desk ellipticals that read, "I HAVEN'T LOST A SINGLE POUND USING THIS THING, but it's keeping me warm…

Black coffee has very few calories. Used coffee grounds have very little caffeine. If you don't like throwing out the pods - they make re-usable ones that allow you to rinse and add new grounds for every cup without generating more waste than necessary. Coffee grounds make great compost and I put them in my plants.…

So, I got this treadmill desk to improve my winter NEAT and to help me stay warm in winter as an option to use instead of my space heater... I just got my November gas and electric bill and it's down $60 for this month over the usual. My weight probably dropped 5 pounds while I was saving that $60 in heating expenses, too.…

RE: Correlation/Causation... I'll just leave this here...

A couple of my friends with anxiety tend to use hoops as a form of cardio and self-soothing. For me, it's more of a fidget that boosts NEAT, but not necessarily a workout that I do for a specific benefit. Weighted and unweighted hoops will have different effects/benefits, but hooping is kind of an oddball option, because…

I have more than mild thyroid problems and the one time I tried keto I was nearly a homicidal maniac. Thankfully the gluten challenge eventually ended, and I have no problems with gluten. Now I know WHY I need carbs so badly, but even with that solved, I lose weight just fine without keto. Is your thyroid being treated? Do…

It's not really a plateau until it's been 4-6 weeks. You're doing GREAT! I'm currently at 158.2ish and working my way down to about 145ish. Plan is to take around 24 weeks to get there. I'm in no rush. I won't need a "bathing-suit ready body" until spring anyway. :)

If you mean frame size, there's a thing here: https://medlineplus.gov/ency/imagepages/17182.htm and here: https://www.livestrong.com/article/219938-how-to-know-your-body-frame/

Put your clothes back on and see if it changes. If it doesn't, change the battery.

When you look into buying a new device, make sure that the *version* of bluetooth matches up. It's possible that the Xiaomi phone is running a newer edition of bluetooth than the Fitbit. I've run into that problem a number of times and ended up pairing a device with my older tablet.

PS - Love your screen name. I seriously had to double and triple check that you weren't my brother with a 10-years-out-of-date progress photo.

The number of hours isn't always equivalent to the quality of the sleep. If you have concerns, do what you can to improve your sleep hygiene (Avoid screens 2 hours before bed, stick to as much of a schedule as possible, acknowledge the long half life of caffeine, try to avoid workouts directly before bed, etc.). Genetics,…

Yeah, it's a cool and inexpensive tech toy with solid hardware, but I probably wouldn't get one for my Mom. She hates tinkering with numbers and gadgets. For her, I'd probably get a run-of-the-mill Fitbit (sans HRM, since they haven't seemed to nail down their algorithms properly) or or Garmin device and connect MFP FOR…

I have one and they are theoretically linkable to Google Fit and then from Google Fit through to MFP, but the connection between Google Fit and MFP has been ridiculous and unreliable, so I've left off with the connection and just use the MiBand to ensure that my step count is within the activity level I set for myself as a…

The travel may or may not make it difficult to track. Travel always makes me retain water, and also ensures that I have trouble with logging accuracy as there are a lot of restaurants and SALT in all the food. Do you know how much water you *normally* retain on a trip like the one you're planning? Having THAT number in…

Sure! I'm also 2# lighter in the morning, than I am after eating two meals and drinking about a gallon of water. Then while I sleep, (laying down) all the water gets evenly distributed through my body. I look best at about 6:00 am. After that, low blood pressure and a day of sedentary office work nearly guarantees that all…

Gravity. It happens without the leggings, too. To me anyway.

Semantics of "fortified" and "supplemented" aside, I'm glad you're getting your B12. I have pernicious anemia and cannot produce the intrinsic factor required to get the B12 from my gut into my blood stream no matter what format it is in. I also have a genetic mutation that makes it difficult for my body to STORE it. B12…

Women are more susceptible to repetetive motion injuries than men because estrogen inhibits collagen production. See a doctor about your shoulder, and follow the advice given, ESPECIALLY IF THEY TELL YOU TO REST, but also if they give you a bunch of super-boring exercises with embarrassingly low weights that seem dumb.…

YES! That was the gamifying app I was thinking of!

I tend to do the Olympic lifts with some body building (hypertrophy as opposed to strength) mixed in to alter *specific* items that I wish to change. Olympic lifts are compound movements that efficiently work many muscle groups and build strength in a *useful way.* I feel like power lifters and Olympic lifters tend to have…

*FIRST* check in with your treatment team and find out what is best for your MENTAL health. That's what's gonna drive your game. That said, we have calorie *TARGETS*. Not calorie lines. As with a target on a shooting range, the victory conditions are to nail the target as close to center as possible. Missing above and…

1. If you can afford to, switch to as many organic fruits, vegetables and grains as possible. (I'm not saying you need to eat more of any one of them, I'm saying that as much as you can afford to - switch to the organic version of what you're already eating.) A friend of mine is a researcher who is currently working on…

You *will* need a B12 supplement. There are NO plant sources of B12, but you can get a lab-produced supplement to get B12 in your diet. It takes about 3 years for your body to use up your liver's store of B12, so you may feel OK without the supplement now, but I recommend adding it back into your diet BEFORE you end up…

I would go back to the doctor and get the dizziness taken care of. Until the doctors can PROVE that you have a reason to be dizzy all the time you shouldn't accept vague hand waving as an answer. YOU PAID MONEY FOR MORE THAN JUST GUESSING. Yes there is guessing involved, but the results of the best guess and treatment…

Most of the times I have been overweight, it has been caused by or exacerbated by an underlying medical condition, and when I treat whatever condition is causing the problem, I naturally lose weight and feel better at the same time.
