Some berries are poisonous. I almost made a mistake of eating pokeberry.

There are two different issues here: self confidence and physical health. Regardless of the state of your health, it is important to always be confident about yourself, to always think that you are a human being worthy of respect and affection, because you are. That being said, you owe a responsibility to yourself and your…

Did I see this in a movie somewhere? Nevermind.

It's only a problem if you don't like it  In all seriousness next time around it's probably better to change into something that covers more skin, just to avoid giving them ideas.

The way people use it out there, a 'diet' is a special way of eating, anything out of the ordinary. People say "I'm on a diet" all the time as a shortcut. Even though technically any manner of eating can be called a diet, I try to avoid the word due to its negative connotation. When people ask me what I do to lose weight,…

Congrats :) Please post again when you finally pass the 'overweight' mark into the 'normal' range :)

I lowered my cholesterol by 80 points just by restricting calories and exercising 4-6 times a week. For a lot of mornings I also eat oatmeal, so that could have something to do with it.

If he can cheat her, he can surely cheat you, and he most likely will.

I actively avoid learning anything about her, but I'm not always successful. Whenever I shop for groceries the gossip magazines by the cashier are all about her.

I didn't change my eating habit except for getting a little more protein. I still eat rice, pasta, bread, etc.

I'm not quite railing against him, whatever works. In my previous post (before the twinkie one) I simply offered a reminder that he needs to build a good relationship with food for higher chance of success. Before I used MFP I rarely eat chips or drink soda, but I managed to gain a lot of weight just the same. Chips and…

I tried IF and had some success with it, but I dropped it because it's not quite compatible with my lifestyle. As long as you're healthy, IF would work because it sort of confuses your body. The day before you eat normally so your body keeps burning at the normal rate, today you fast so it burns fat at close to normal…

At your age your skin will firm up much faster than at mine. You can easily hide loose skin with clothing, it's nearly impossible to hide extra fat if you have lots of it.

Time for the obligatory link to the Twinkie diet. http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/11/08/twinkie.diet.professor/index.html

It's a bit extreme, but hey, whatever works for you. You just need to realize that the most sustainable weight loss / weight maintenance plan is one that doesn't forsake entire food categories. I still eat chips and drink soda, but rarely and in moderation. Because I still eat them I don't exactly crave or miss them, I…

I think it's a psychological defense mechanism. You would rather think that you're fat but actually thin rather than the other way around, because the latter can lead to embarrassing situations. Congrats for your success, and keep on it.

According to the research that I read exercise can counteract metabolic slowdown. It stands to reason that exercise can increase your metabolism faster than just eating at normal level.

By "glossed over" I mean minimize. He has a little section about AT. I said little compared to the length of his rant, I mean article. If I'm eating at 1200 for sure AT is not gonna cope, it would simply slow down my weight loss because it makes my deficit smaller, so he is right as long as I have a large enough deficit.…

I read your post. You said my example doesn't apply because of this 15%, but my example is just an arbitrary number to illustrate a point. Let's use your 15% then. If maintenance is 2000 then at 15% AT reduction it would be at 1700. If I eat at 1700 according to my calculation I would have no deficit, and therefore a…

I actually read the entire article, I forced myself to do it despite the liberal amount of cuss words. He made a good case, but he completely glossed over the effect of AT. If AT slows down your metabolism down to, say, 1600 cals a day, then eating 1600 will result in a stall. Not just slowdown in weight loss, it's a…

Whenever I start a new exercise I always get really sore (as expected) and gain a couple of pounds. However, I saw the plateau about a couple of months after I started my exercise, way after all the soreness and water weight have subsided. My weight can fluctuate by as much as 5 lbs between morning and midnight, so I have…

How tall are you, and how active?

I have no problem telling people of my method. When they disagree that's fine too, as long as they are civil about it.
-
I still eat pizza, but it's usually a 6" personal size. At around 600 calories I can fit it just fine into my daily limit.
-
Yeah, we got fat in the first place because we ingested too many calories. I see the slippery slope, but I'm assuming that people are smart enough not to pull all the stops just because somebody says 'eat a little bit more'. This is not rocket science, but it's not a completely mindless pursuit. Companies make tons of…

Some of them work, many are essentially legal scam. If they work, are you gonna take them for the rest of your life? The moment you get off the pills you will balloon again.

They're mostly true, except for driving. I'm a skilled driver but sometimes with a bad attitude. Wait, that means I'm a bad driver. Scratch that, they're all true.
