You can control how you use Facebook just like anything else. I use it to keep up with crafters in my special realms of interest (pin loom weaving and loom knitting). I hide anyone who puts up too much political junk because I don't care to see that much of it. It helps me keep some track of family activities by what…

The calories the army supplies are somewhat dependent on their expectation of your calorie needs. Their assumption can be really problematic for someone with a sedentary army job like translating who is being supplied with 4000+ calorie combat MREs (happened to a friend of mine -- he ballooned). You should make sure you…

You can add me. My diary is open but reflects some "best guess" choices for dinner because we live in a community where dinner is delivered to us. I'm here for the long haul this time. Gotta. I've weighed in the upper (sometimes WAY upper) 200s for much of my adult life. I'm now pushing 70 and my blood sugar has gone…

A stone is 14 pounds! Nothing to sneeze at! Congrats!

Consider this the start of adjusting your eating habits to be something sustainable. Analyze what makes you want to give up and consider how to overcome it. Break it up into little parts. Eating cookies makes me hungry. I remember that as I talk myself out of having Lorna Doones for breakfast. Doing the diary is a pain in…

It is more likely that your potassium figures being low is a product of gaps in the database. Potassium numbers aren't required to be on labels so don't end up in the database. There are lots of false zeroes.

And the last paragraph of the paper, after finding that the studies that showed losses were small and needed more study, said, "If you are trying to lose weight, adding apple cider vinegar to your diet probably won’t do the trick. Of course, you’d never suspect that was the case by the way it’s been trending on Google…

The whole thing about the magical properties of ACV was begun in the 1920s by a guy who inherited his family's orchard and was trying to make money. There's absolutely no scientific validity to the idea that ACV will improve your health or make you lose weight or any of the other things people assign to it. All it does is…

I eat about 2/3 between supper and early evening. But time of day is only important in how it satisfies you. How often you eat or times don't affect weigh loss long term.

There's no such thing as "starvation mode" as a diet concept. You'd have to be on the brink of death for your metabolism to slow to such a point like in a true famine -- and then you'd die. Metabolisms don't slow or speed up easily. You can speed up your metabolism a little through muscle gain but only a little -- not…

I'm only saying this because I recently found my "scale problem" and "plateau" were somewhat related to it: check the bottom of your bathroom scale. Mine had a broken foot and therefore didn't really know what it was doing. It might be new scale battery or whole new scale time. My new one arrives Tuesday.

To learn how to balance your diet, start with the "healthy eating plate" at https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/ @nccugirl7 's navy beans, corn and sweet peas does not a balanced diet make though they are certainly a more nutritious mix than a Snickers Bar, Mountain Dew, and a bag of potato chips. LOL There are…

Big salads for dinner!

Sodium differences and water retention could explain a lot of the 10 pound difference, too.

If a cheat day works for you "mentally" then do it. Just remember that you are not really getting away with anything. Over-consumption is a choice no matter how you choose to do it. If you overeat, that is eat more calories than you plan to eat, that effects the speed at which you lose weight. Arguably, an extra 1000…

You can aim toward cheaper forms of protein like beans and cheaper veg like cabbage. Also, search for recipes and meal plans using the word "frugal." If you google "frugal meal plans" you'll find lots of great links.

I started several years ago at 283. Dropped into the 260s but headed back to the 270s and stayed there. I'm now back to MFP and have lost 22 pounds in the last 6-ish weeks to 246. I can now say I have about 100 pounds to lose instead of 150! I'm here for the long haul because my blood sugar finally went out of control and…

If drinking more water made it so you could poo without a laxative then you need to regularly drink more water. Pooing should occur naturally if at all possible. Some folks can't do it but you have found a simple and healthy solution for you. Drink enough and you poo enough.

Unless you are a drug or alcohol addict in a treatment program, "detoxes" are just so much bogus woo. They do not reset your metabolism or eliminate toxins. You may lose weight during a detox but this is simply a combination of calorie deficits and loss of water weight by reduction of sodium. It has no long term benefit.

A day later it dropped 7 pounds. I think the scale capitulated.

You left this out: High sodium can kill you. It increases your blood pressure and your risk of stroke, heart failure, osteoporosis, stomach cancer, kidney disease, kidney stones, an enlarged heart muscle, and arteriosclerosis. There. Fixed it for you. As with just about every micronutrient, moderation is key.

I figured out how many calories I should eat to lose weight and then use the food diary to keep track of what I am eating. It's really as simple as that. Read the stickies about getting started especially https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants and you…

I, too, needed to lose half my weight -- now only about 85% ;) MFP is here for us long haul folks. It is not about magic diets that lose 10 pounds in a week (all of which is gained back in the subsequent weeks) or about shaming folks. It's for anyone who wants to control their weight. There's a success story today about a…

I find I like the premium because I have more control to set my own numbers. The benefits are negligible if you aren't going to do the work of using your diary every day. No secrets are revealed. No new eating plans are included. You just have more control to design your own tracking. I set mine up for annual renewal so…

WOW ... just WOW!!!

I like to be able to set my own numbers so it's definitely worth it to me.

I like food. I like lots of food. I enjoy eating. I've been overweight since childhood -- from eating too much. I eat healthy foods, just too much of them. I'd rather eat with reckless abandon than watch how much I eat like a hawk. I don't recommend being fat your entire adult life. It did me no favors socially,…

There are some listings for calories of cooked rice in the database. A cup of cooked white rice is roughly 200 calories. Your serving size is what fits in your daily caloric intake.

Once again, excuse this retired librarian for answering a question no one asked: Caffeine is indeed the major ingredient in many diet pills. The major ingredient in Hydroxycut, for example, is coffee extract. A problem with relying too much on it for weight loss can cause you consume too much which for many people results…

Snap off the hard ends. Wrap in a damp paper towel. Microwave until soft but still bright green. Now's the time to get out the butter.
