  • I consider serving size to be a suggestion and then I adjust accordingly based on what I've measured out. For example, today I was not on target for one serving with my morning cream and cheese for the eggs. For the cream, I was over the 15g that is a tablespoon and poured 18g. I used my handy dandy calculator to indicate…
  • Although I'm really learning a lot from your posts about fat % -- and it's led me to go out and read more about it -- I do worry a bit that you may be hurting yourself long term by some of the things you are doing to get to the 10%. Avoiding veggies just isn't healthy. Of course, I know posts like this don't tell the whole…
  • I find that sometimes it's two days of ups after a salty day -- could be the same for you after the weekend. But also, doing lots of exercise causes a bit of water retention as your muscles naturally rebuild after it. So kickboxing and lots of walking could explain it.
  • Me, too. I use light therapy and it really seems to work. I had a blue light that died so just started using my old Ott light over my head. It seems to help. Whether it's real or placebo, I don't care because it's working.
  • @Elbee1 -- you use the verb "diet" a lot and I wonder if you've considered removing it from your vocabulary? Dieting, to me, suggests a kind of eating I'm only going to do temporarily. To be a thinner person, I will need to eat as a thinner person -- not only as I am trying to get to it but as I try to remain that thinner…
  • @cyranda63 == Amazing!! You go girl!
  • Thank you so much, Cyranda! This challenge has kept me going with no thoughts of quitting. I get so much out of reading everyone’s daily squibs! Thank you all for sharing. And persisting!! I’ve done 14 of these challenges which is exactly 20 weeks. I started MFP before joining the challenges so there’s no starting whoosh…
  • I used to eat things like light string cheese because I could eat more for fewer calories but now instead, and more happily, I eat good, strongly flavored cheeses, especially smoked cheese. If you are only eating the cheese one ounce at a time you can justify paying more for it per pound. For grating cheeses, use the real…
  • I'm doing 1550 for the long haul. I cook most nights and it's often different. My diary is open. If you see a recipe name or a list of ingredients and want more info just give me a holler.
  • Currently, the average American intake is 3200 mg. The Dutch just set a standard recommended max of 2400 mg and the American Heart Association recommendation is no more than 1500 mg (1300 mg if you are over 65). The AHA among others just announced they are lowering what is considered high blood pressure to anything over…
  • There are lots of free exercise videos on YouTube if you can figure out a way to watch them while exercising. I have a laptop I can just move to where I want to do the exercise but I've also figured out how to stream YouTube with FireTV.

  • Yes, it could well be the shorter days and less light. You just reminded me to turn on my SADD light.
  • ^^This.^^ If I don't eat breakfast/lunch because I just wasn't hungry for them I am ravenous that evening and eat with the brakes off. I need to always eat my nice, heavy, fat laden breakfast of eggs scrambled with cheese and cream even if I don't get it in until noon or so after coffee drinking and paper reading (I'm…
  • As folks said, fit them into your calories. I'm 66, so a similar age. I really haven't changed what I eat much I just measure it all and aim for a 500 calorie-day deficit. I've lost 33 pounds with just 110 to go. Tonight we are having pizza. Homemade. It's a fairly calorie-dense supper so I'll be having fewer snacks to…

  • Yes. Or no. You don't need to exercise to lose weight. Unless you know you will stick with it, avoid any gym that automatically renews your membership (most do). It's psychologically harder to quit than to keep paying that monthly fee even though you may not be using it. But try them all and do what you like and don't do…

  • 1. Don't panic. 2. Like many, your doctor is a dolt when it comes to this sort of thing. Note, he handed you something a drug rep gave him. Geez. How about something from the NIH or the American Diabetes Association or something. 3. Thanksgiving is one meal. Now that you are past the panic, it's time to learn and cope.…
  • I recently gained 12 pounds in 12 days on a road trip and shed it in the subsequent 12 days at home. All but maybe a pound or so was water. At home, we watch sodium. Eating out and fast food on the road meant lots of water retention. When we get take out Chinese, I gain two pounds two days later that I shed 4 days later.…
  • You are welcome to peek at my diary. I like to cook so we are often having something different. I'm basically a lazy cook, though, so you won't see fancy, hard to make things. If you see a recipe name and want to know what went in it, just pm me and ask. Last night we had what the imported recipe I started with called…
  • I seem to remember from baking with whey protein years ago that things burn more easily. You might want to turn the oven temp down a bit. Also, you may find you need to add extra liquid. It may take a bit of trial and error to get what you want without things being too brown, dry or brick-like.

  • From what I understand -- not very accurately. They use electrical impedance to measure the time it takes for a charge to go from one foot to the other. Electricity travels faster through bone and muscle than it does through fat and water. Of course, it's only measuring this for the bottom half of your body. The way the OP…
  • There also seems to be a new easy method I just ordered a packet of. They are little plastic springs you just wind on and off and you can use as much or little as you need. This is what I ordered from Amazon for all of 8 bucks. It arrived yesterday and each of the 12 little plastic springs is about 4 inches long so a…
  • I'm not on a diet. I'm just keeping track of how much I eat. And, no, not all my facebook contacts need know. New photos will eventually tell the tale and those who are interested will ask.

  • I, too, need to get to 140 to have a healthy BMI. I "only" had 143 to lose. It's a daunting task looking at it that way ... so I don't. I'm a heck of a lot better off now in the low 250s than I was in the 280s. I feel better. I can button my favorite jacket over a sweater now. I'll be even better off in the 240s as the…
