For years yoga was my main exercise, with a hike once a month or so. I toned up, and gained an understanding of how my mind/body responds to different actions. Lost weight slowly. Eventually, I changed to a vegan diet, because doing yoga poses after eating meat (which I digested slowly) was not comfortable. Lost weight,…

i did the color run 5k when it came to my home town, and it was very fun. there were mostly people walking, so tell your friends/family to walk it! i went with my kids and some friends with kids. have fun!!

it amazes me that the OP still remembers the hurt and shame from decades ago. when it comes from someone who is supposed to love you unconditionally, the wound is so much deeper. my sister, whom i worshipped, was always calling me ugly and stupid. i was in college before i felt like i was the least bit attractive or…

i tend to be calmer after yoga class. therefore, my advice is, practice lots of savasana! also, i'm so sorry that happened to you! how frightening that must have been! best of luck getting it all taken care of, and i hope your wall is fixed soon.

i go through this, the adjustment and readjustment of thyroid meds, after losing/gaining any significant amount of weight. it is SO FRUSTRATING. just keep up the exercise, and once your thyroid hormone levels are normalized, that will be your new starting point. (hopefully it won't be too many pounds.) when i'm hypo-, i…

everyone is going to tell you to raise your calorie goal to something above 1200 -- to make it your TDEE - 20%. i am 4'11" and 50 years old, so my TDEE-20% is 1289. it IS hard to meet. i try to choose nutrient-dense foods, but whenever i eat junk or restaurant fare i go over calories. if i exercise more, i can eat more,…

i've never been in a rut, per se, but after a while i was eager to venture out of my comfort zone. i (a) took classes from different teachers at my studio (including level 1 classes, which helped me revisit the basics), (b) joined another studio, allowing me to try different teachers and different styles of yoga (c)…

wow. that is my story, as well.

C25K is an amazing training plan. I used it to run my first 5K a year and a half ago, and I am training for my first 10K now. Running helps me get my metabolism going (provided i can get myself out the door). Do it! It's a great feeling as you progress through the weeks, and such an accomplishment when you cross that…

my kids are now 12 and 10. when they were younger, the mommy guilt was my excuse for not working out. i found a class i could do once every two weeks during the school day. one day i realized i was 20 pounds overweight, got tired going up and down the stairs, and couldn't keep up with them. now that they're older, i attend…

Fun. Thanks for the link!

I'm signed up for a Color Run 5K in October, too! It is an untimed fun run/walk, as the folks above me have described. If you plan to run with your friend, I would go for training runs with her. If you've been running on the elliptical, go for some runs outside, because it's a different feel. I've been running 5Ks so I'm…

As a stress eater myself, I don't have any reliable advice, but I will say WELL DONE! for driving past the you-know-where without stopping! You should be very proud of yourself!

i tried loading up on caffeine but it just made me jittery while still tired, if that makes any sense. what did help was yerba mate tea, and small snacks every few hours -- an apple, banana, or some crackers and peanut butter. good luck getting your dosage squared away. it's so hard going through those adjustments.

"What, behind the rabbit?" "It is the rabbit." "You silly sod!" "Still no sign of land. How long is it?" "That's a rather personal question, sir." "What's on the television then?" "Looks like a penguin."

my favourite poses are ardha chandrasana and supta baddha konasana. something about simultaneously opening up the heart and hips. my "challenge" poses are parivrtta trikonasana and any arm balances (besides handstand against a wall). i always feel like i am going to topple over. i have not yet mastered halasana or…

it does eventually get easier to get out the door. i find it hard in the wintertime when it's still dark outside. me, if i don't run in the morning, i find excuses not to run after work, so i tell myself if i just go out and run slow, short, and easy, i will burn enough calories to have a cushion for the day. once i'm out…

I've done it twice (with diet pepsi). The first time was because I wanted to be caffeine-free during pregnancy. I couldn't go cold turkey because I'd get horrible caffeine withdrawal headaches. I used to have a DP first thing in the morning, another with lunch, and one later in the day. The first day I skipped my morning…

if your activity level is sedentary, then walking does count as exercise.

it sounds to me as though hypothyroidism is the underlying problem. i hope you can get it taken care of. mine affects my mood, emotions, and energy levels, in addition to thwarting any weight loss efforts. thyroid meds like synthroid/levothyroxine are not very expensive, even without insurance. good luck!

thank you for this! i need to do this to reestablish my home practice! namaste.

You ROCK! keep on running... you'll get that sub-30 5K in no time!
-
personally, i like to run on a mostly empty stomach. i might eat a light, late lunch, and then grab a banana about an hour before the run.

yoga is also good for releasing tension and relieving stress. yoga helps you accept and appreciate yourself and others around you. my only regret at practicing yoga is i wish i had started sooner.

It has only been a few weeks. It took a long time to put on the weight -- it will take time for it to come off. It takes three weeks of consistency to gain new habits. Stick with it, and don't beat yourself up over every little setback. You can do this!

- your buttocks are squashes, not pumpkins - make barbie feet (which makes sense to those of us who played with the original style barbies)

one, if you are 5'5 and 130, then you are in the normal weight range. weight loss will be slower. two, you are getting a lot of exercise (working out for an hour, walking four miles) and are probably just not eating enough. maybe consider a bigger breakfast? having some peanut butter with your apple for your afternoon…

your dogs are not doing their jobs if they are not gobbling up those cheerios for you. :-) i log cleaning if i work at it enough to tire me out, but i only log about half the actual time. but i have a desk job, so my activity level is set to sedentary.

we have verizon, and pay monthly for unlimited data. we also have their family plan, which covers up to five people. however, we pay per text message.

you do not typically spend a lot of money on clothes... either do i. generally i only buy what i need, and try to get them at bargain prices. but if i find something that is very flattering, as long as it's something i will wear a lot i will buy them in a heartbeat even if they are more than i would normally spend. i wear…
