So the really cool thing is that you recognize the problem. Fixing it is simple, but it isn't easy. There are some really excellent Stickies in the Getting Started forum, and that is a really great place to start. Remember that it took 7 years for you to get where you are now. It didn't occur overnight so don't try to fix…

I have some permanent damage to my right knee from a car accident. Not sure this applies to spin bikes, but a former cycling culprit for aggravating the bad knee was my seat being adjusted too far forward. My knee was extending too far forward on my down stroke. Similar to seat being too low.

Did a little follow up on the FDA labeling criteria. There are 2 guidelines collectively referred to as the 80/120 rules. The 80% rule ...the FDA requires that the item “must be present at 80% or more of the value declared on the label.” So a label that states that an item has 6 mg of vitamin C in it is only required to…

I saw this thread earlier today and a had a couple thoughts, but no time to post. 1. Nutritional labeling is allowed by the FDA a margin of error. Guess which way they error on... Possibly on review they were violating the error allowance. 2. To my mind, it is more likely that some processes were changed, or reviewed, and…

arrrggghhh. Auto-corrections and grammar errors! Like the pirate with the ship's wheel sticking out of his pants... Arrr, it's driving me nuts!!

Never been a runner. Love to cycle, hike, walk, and swim (when I can).

I restarted May 1st at 100 kg, 5'11", 41yrs old, male. Here's what has worked for me when I'm focused. Successful weight loss tends to be .5 to 1kg per week. First couple weeks can be a little faster with water weight losses. Faster weight loss for longer periods of time generally causes a greater loss of muscle mass,…

The USDA Nutrient Database has entries for raw and cooked, if you want to keep it simple. Depending on how you're cooking really impacts how close the numbers are. Otherwise, let's say you cook a pot roast. Not going to eat the whole thing in one setting, and you want to be as accurate as you possibly can. So here's how…

This site has excellent calculators. http://scoobysworkshop.com/calories-burned/

I too am a novice, and did my first 3 day, 2 night hike last year. Very hilly terrain, but not mountains. I borrowed some gear from a friend to help lighten my gear. I'll admit I'm unsure of my base weight, which = weight - consumables (food, water, fuel). I do know that my total pack weight with 3L of water weighed out at…

Pork Tenderloin Diablo. Google search it. It's a great recipe. Hard boiled eggs. 4 Large eggs are approx 280 calories. Rotisserie chicken. Avg between the white and dark meat is about 200 calories per 85g (3oz).

"Oh, Fatty don't wanna eat that Because Fatty don't wanna be fat. Fatty don't get to eat that, Else Fatty ain't gonna be nothin' but fat." Usually followed up by screaming at other shoppers, "Quit looking at me!!" :# Then running out the door. I've lost so much weight after being banned from every grocery store in a…

Janae7613, Few questions to start. Age? Height? Starting weight? Goal weight? Describe your level of activity. How are you measuring your calorie intake? Food Scale? Measuring cups? Eyeballing it? Are you consistently using the same method for each intake of calories? Understand that weight loss is a combination of water…

Hey sweetie. Hop in and I'll take you home. Only works when I'm picking up my girlfriend. :D

There is some research/evidence that suggests we burn more calories doing activities when it's hotter. The understanding is that in addition to the activity itself, the cardiovascular system is working harder to shed heat. I'm not sure how much increase was measured, but you can find the research synopses online.

I would only expand on "don't fit your goals" to "calorie items that you struggle to moderate". A personal example is that I cannot moderate my soda drinking habits, and cannot make it fit into my calorie budget. So I eliminated and avoid it.

Thank you!

I'm going to be a little harsh here. One, you stated that you ate 800 calories a day. This is a recipe for failure in the vast majority of cases. Unless you're less than 4'6", it's stupid (<-sarcasm). Stop it. Two, you are assuming/expecting weight loss to be linear, meaning a straight line down. It's not. Weight…

I'm 41 with 42 right around the corner. Since January 2nd my weight has dropped from 228.6 to 203.2 this morning. The road that works for me is: 1. Food scale. 2. 5-6 meals/day. Play around with this. 3. Food scale! 4. USDA nutrient database (checking my entries). 5. Food scale!! 6. MFP, logging everything. 7. I'm a fan of…

OP said nothing about it being tied to weight loss. Rather they spoke to what she eats positively/negatively impacts her energy levels.

I have some disc degeneration in the cervical vertebrae. 2 years ago woke with a nerve impingement that caused tingling "pins and needles" down my entire right arm, and drastic loss of range of motion in my neck. OTC NSAIDS, rX'd muscle relaxants, acupuncture, massage, stretching, heat, cold, etc, etc didn't relieve it. I…

OP, Is it cooked or raw textures that are the problem with vegetables? With fruit what about bananas, apples, strawberries, or watermelon? They all have vastly different textures.

Most of the time MFP exercise calorie burns are overestimating. One personal example was a 1.5 hours easy trail walk I did 3 weeks ago. MFP had "Walking, 3.0mph" calculated at +600 calories. My chest strap HRM minus my RMR for that time was around 400 calories. That's why we see the common recommendation to log your…

Ahh, welcome to the world of "label claims versus reality". This is very, very common, though it typically goes the other way. Count by grams.

If you're in the Racine area, it's a bit of a hike; however, Laacke & Joys in Brookfield does day rentals. http://www.ljoutdoors.com/rentals/

Hey OP! Congratulations on your success to date! I'll second @malibu927 advice. Keep up the great work.

I think you should do this: Here's why. I always try to remember that on MFP: 1 lbs/wk of weight loss equals 3500 calorie deficit/week. 1.5lbs/wk of weight loss equals 5250 calorie deficit/week. 2 lbs/wk of weight loss equals 7000 calorie deficit/week. If I go over one day a week, but on target for the remaining 6 days,…

It sounds, and looks, like what you're doing is working great! The lifting is going to build tone muscle, and what I assume is a calorie deficit is going to help you lose weight. As you get down to these last 5-10 pounds, expect it to go a little slower. What helps a lot of people is progress photos, as you've been doing,…

In the MFP app under the Steps option in the menu bar is either S Health or Gear (if it's available) selected?

2008 presidential election, in one breath a woman at work said, "I could never vote for a black man for president. You can't trust them with that much power. But I don't want you to think I'm racist..." Whoops. Too late. I just turned and walked away.
