  • Good points above illustrating that there are different "roads to the top of the mountain". Experiment with different ideas and suggestions to find what works for you. A couple more things that works better for me. One is to set my calorie goals to lose the max 2lbs/week. If I go over a little bit (like today), I'm still…
  • Friend swore to me they were unable to lose weight because of a "sluggish metabolism". That they were under their calories for the day, as they dug into a full size Applebee's sampler platter...
  • Here is advice I've gotten from others that helps me: Instead of "dieting", make life style changes. Make those changes gradually for long term success. Log everything. Remember that it's not a race and it takes time. One day off target doesn't "wreck everything, and equal failure". It's when we revert to the old life…
  • You are very simply not alone with the struggle to change. It's something we all want instant results with, but have to realize takes time. We are great at sabotaging ourselves mentally. We often have unrealistic goals, or we try doing too much at once. I want to lose a total of 43lbs. I'm figuring 10 months at minimum to…
  • I enjoy frozen cherries for a sweet snack. 1 cup/140 grams is 90 calories.
  • I like to purchase rotisserie chickens. The skin on holds the moisture in and the fat helps with the flavor. Reheats nicely.
  • I believe all of the P90X fitness series recommend wearing a Heart Rate Monitor for this and a couple of other reasons. Calories burned calculations/formulas are really, really rough guess-timates. I believe with all of the programs there is a calorie calculator they use to estimate your calorie intake with the exercise…
  • LOL I just popped back into this thread and see the error I made. Thank you for pointing that out, Carlosmitchell16. I goofed.
  • I will say that despite my earlier post, I still eat at both restaurants. I'm 9 or so weeks into eating at a deficit, but I still allow myself some leeway. I definitely eat out less, but I'm down 19 pounds even with a few days at maintenance or more.

  • I'll admit I dislike the "d-word" because in our current culture it seems that "d-word-ing" is something done temporarily to reach some number on the scale. Then we can go back to "enjoying food again". Absolute b.s. I refuse to "d-word". Instead, I think we have to work on our overall eating habits. Is it a mind game?…
  • * Prelogging for the day. "It's already in the log, so that's what your going to eat for the day" is one external tool to help with the mindset. * Bringing your own food for lunch and snacks, and making a personal commitment to eat only those foods while you're at work. * If you can manage it, when they offer a treat, you…
  • Typically, the weights given are before cooking.
  • This is the ticket. We are all human beings, and we all live in reality. This means we all have little ups and downs in life. Healthy eating and weight loss is all about the long game. You don't "mess up", or "fail", because you didn't hit your target for 1 or 2 days. My personal example is that I'm 8 weeks into keeping my…
  • This is how I help my girlfriend while she's doing Tracy Anderson workouts! This typically leads to me getting chased around the apartment... Totally worth it.
  • When pig lips, an_s, hoof, and whatever got shoveled off the floor just isn't enough... I couldn't resist.
  • Skim milk, the low-fat, low-calorie wonder drink of the 80's. It's like drinking adulterated water. I don't drink a lot, but when I do it's whole milk all the way. Even made a convert out of my girlfriend to whole milk.
  • I'm not Jewish so no Shabbat, but I would imagine it comparable to other weekly gatherings with family or friends. There are a few of options to these types of scenarios. .* You can budget for it by eating at a slightly higher deficit the other 5 days. * You can log it faithfully and just accept your weight loss will be…
  • So, I'm going to say this with a slight chuckle, "Quit over-thinking and over-complicating it." I do the same damn thing with so many issues, so I know where you are coming from. Keep it simple, silly (K.I.S.S. method of life). Plug in your current numbers into MFP, set lifestyle to sedentary, and weight loss to zero. That…
  • Calculate your maintenance calorie intake for your current weight at a sedentary (and recovery) lifestyle, and eat at that level while you heal. One thing to keep in mind is that you will rebuild the amount of glycogen stored around the liver and in muscle tissue when eating at maintenance. Glycogen storage takes a lot of…
  • I would think with as little as you have to lose and with as tight as the calorie deficit is going to be, it's going to come down to accuracy. .* Food scale because eyeballing it unreliable. * Measuring cup serving sizes for solids have a lot of variance. There are typical gram and ounce weights in parenthesis. * Verify…
  • Fatty tuna (Toro) nigiri Salmon (Sake) nigiri Cooked shrimp (Ebi) nigiri I like sashimi too, but it's never filling enough for me.
  • @xoxogreta - NEAT, BMR, and TDEE calculators are all estimates of our energy expenditures. There are, I believe, 4 commonly used variations to the mathematical formula (Harris Benedict, Mifflin-St Jeor, Katch-McArdle, and Cunningham), along with various multipliers to reflect average levels of daily activity. Rather than…
  • Someone suggested to me, which I liked, weighing the finished product on a food scale. Then enter the number of grams as the number of servings. Basically, 1g/serving. When you dish up your meal, weigh the portion dished up and enter the number of grams. So 155 grams would then get entered as 155 servings. MFP does the…
  • Former roommate ate nattō frequently. It was a common item in the apartment after shopping sprees at the Japanese market in Chicago. Hilarious watching a large polish man order nattō from the older Japanese clerks in the food court. They'd always ask if he was sure? Did he understand what he was ordering? Tickled them to…
  • Been practicing Aikido since 1999. Very occasionally roll with a buddy who teaches BJJ, but nothing formal.
  • Hello Karen, Some of the best support I've found is in reading the introductory pinned posts at the top of the forum categories. There is very good information with common tips, tools, and methods. Remember to have patience. Changing eating habits is a process. Weight loss is not 100% linear. It all takes time. Best wishes…
  • Lol. Awesome! Sometimes organizing data from one format to another is a tricky pain in the rear.
  • I don't think that there is a direct downloadable option, however, you might be able to highlight, copy, and paste your daily information into a spreadsheet. Probably best done from the desktop site. It may, or may not, divide things out into columns correctly.
