Best advice I have is do what works for you. I like intermitent fasting or IF at a 20/4 So when I do that I only eat for 4 hours a day. Some people like the 16/8. I do it on the weekends. It's to hard to make different meals for everyone in the family so I make stuff everybody likes. I normally try to keep it not to out of line. If it's a true cheat day I never go over 1000 over my TDEE.

It's a bit more complicated than just the calories in calories out. Like you said basically not all sugars are created equally, and the way your body processes them isn't the same. It's in the insulin reponse your body has to the type of sugar. Now I have to go and watch that video!!
