It's not the potatoes at all, but the fat they are fried in. Even oven baked chips have some fat. Just yesterday the American FDA ordered all manufacturers of food and especially the snack food and baked goods industry to get rid of all Trans fats ( because the snack food and baked goods industry uses more Trans fats than…

A BMR of 39 does not exist. A 25-year old woman, your weight and 5?6" tall should have a BMR of around 1800 or thereabouts. Maybe you need to check out all those things and do correct calculations. Also weight loss cannot be jump started.

If Dr. Phil thinks that his diet is so successful, why does he look the way he does ?

Your post makes me remember another thing I wonder about. I agree, most people don't even think about leaving a message. However in my profile the first sentence is a request for a message. So, if people don't include one, it makes me think they did not even read my profile. That's ok, but makes me wonder why they would…

I think it also should be mentioned that those are the numbers for the US food culture. In other countries numbers look different, because people eat differently. An example: After two recent heart attacks my cardiology team lowered my daily calories to 1000. Those are divided into 125 carbs, 22 fat, 75 protein, 2,300 salt…

I don't know what the " official " Fr etiquette is, but I do know that I have to make MFP work for me ! In my profile I ask people to attach a little note about themselves so I have an idea who I am dealing with. Over the last five weeks I had 11 requests. Nine had no note and of those seven had nothing in their profile at…

If you had no metabolism, you would not be alive. The rest of your post, well, I don't quite get what you want to accomplish with it.

I was never overweight until I was 58. Cancer and another health problem caused me to self pity eat. Too much rice and pasta ( most days and often about 6 portions during a day ) caused me to gain quite some weight. The fact that I have no longer a thyroid and another autoimmune disease only played a minor role in my…

I believe we never " get away " with anything. But since the consequences vary we often think we do. Sticking to your example: If you eat at a decent deficit every day, you can get by with a couple of pieces of birthday cake, because seen all over a weigh-in period you probably are still below your calories, or if you just…

4 feet 11.5 inches on a good day 4 feet 11 inches on less good days....:o).

If I should add the olive oil, sea salt and lime juice to my home grown and freshly harvested ( about 40 minutes ago ) broad beans while they are still hot, or if I should wait until they have cooled off.

I sautée onions, garlic, fresh tomatoes, couple of fresh chiles with radish tops ( or those of beets ) add a can of no-salt black or white beans ( and sometimes a small amount of corn ), season with cumin, pepper ( or smoky paprika ) and then add some broth ( usually vegetable ) and let simmer for ten minutes . You can add…

And then, what will you do ?

[/quote] Thanks for the info, and I'm glad you're doing so well after your medical episodes. I am a nurse and weight gain is listed in my nursing drug book (davis) as a side effect of beta blockers. Obviously that's why I asked the question, some not all people may have experienced this. I'm glad you didn't and good job on…

I am not sure where you got your information from, but none of the five different types of beta blockers list as a known side effect weight gain. Since the four most common side effects are #1 diarrhea, #2 stomach cramps, #3 nausea and #4 vomiting....weight gain is not a problem. Even among the very rare of the about 25…

You are joking, right ?

I would worry more about a few glasses of wine and on top of that bourbon than I would about what to order. I know at least two people who did not remember if their first date went well and one person wondering why her date did not call back, due to too many " few glasses of wine ".....have no idea if there was also…

I don't need or want recipes, since I am doing perfectly ok in that area. I just wanted to know, if there was a trick in the preparation process to keep egg white omelettes/frittatas from getting leathery when they cool down. I appreciate all the time and effort people have spent to make suggestions re. recipes, but that…

I am not sure if with " veg " food you mean vegetables or vegetarian food. But either way it does not matter, because there are no foods ( as there are also no specific exercises ) to spot reduce, no matter what the media and advertising say. The only way is to lose fat all over to the point when also your belly fat…

Thank you for all the tips. It looks to me like there might be no solution to my problem...lol. Someone suggested that it also might have to do with the fact that I live at 7750 feet altitude, which means I just have to accept slightly leathery omelettes and frittatas. Hard boiled or poached eggs are an option, but not if…

Just improving blood panels says nothing about health as long as we don't know absolute figures. A friend of mine had his triglyceride level in the low 600s. His doctor warned him that he was facing a heart attack, a stroke or death. My friend took meds and went on a diet and started to walk and his triglyceride level went…

I have to be honest and confess that sometimes I do exactly think that, even though in general I don't care what people eat as long as they don't try to convince me to eat the same way. Recently someone send me one of those " nom, nom, really dee-lish " recipes ( her words not mine ). It consisted mostly of instant banana…

Not all of us eat natural because of a on religion bordering interest/observance. I believe that most people on this planet eat a more natural way, because that is their food related culture. Here on MFP many people tend to forget that only about 330 million people eat the typical American way, the other 6.5 billion plus…

Ghee is butter,it's just clarified and has no longer any milk solids. The advantage is that it does not go rancid, even when stored for a long time without refrigeration. But it's not a butter substitute. In March I had two heart attacks and even though I have to be careful with fat, my cardiologist told me I can have…

You are correct ....it is working again. When I made my previous post it always that " Account suspended ". Glad it is back !

With all due respect, but inflammation does not work this way. You are correct in that the body wants to correct itself. That however comes from hanging on to water ( that is why inflamed parts often look swollen ). The body can only produce fat when we burn less calories than we eat. Eating more beneficial fats, while…

Doctors have told me. I would never make such a decision on my own based on no knowledge of heart health at all. I apologize that initially I did not go into too much detail. Since I just wanted to know how to cook egg whites in a more appetizing way I did not think it was all that necessary. So, here it goes...:o). Three…

I think you are wrong.....I think it's cauliflower, especially when turned into pizza crust or tortillas.....:o).

That was also my first thought. None of the items on that list even remotely entice me. Most of them I have not had anywhere from a few month ( cookies ) to several decades ( fast food burger ) which I am certain has to do with the food cultures I have so far lived in. Addictive ( whatever that is supposed to mean. For me…

So you are saying that those who talk the loudest ( or the most harsh in their way of stating things ) are those who know, because according to your logic having date and results depends on being vocal, while those members here who are a bit more reserved and not as vocal are all idiots ? That's at least what I get from…
