For people who are really overweight it takes a while to make a visible difference. It took me ( also being over 200 pounds at the time ) around six month and 20 pound loss or more before I noticed a small difference and now after having lost just under 30 kilos ( over 65 pounds ) some people are commenting.

When a person eats around 1200 calories; be it because they chose to aggressively lose weight ( not a good idea, but most people prefer losing fast.....and then gaining again ), or because of other reasons ( like in my case: being almost 70 and 4' 10" tall ), they need to be aware that that low an amount of calories means…

[
@Ang108 You seem to equate a calorie deficit with eating nothing! OP could be new to training, with an adequate protein intake and a plentiful supply of energy (fat) to make up for a modest calorie deficit for all you know, Saying gains are limited to a few ounces is based on what exactly?
I did not say…

I have food restrictions, but cannot relate, because getting full has to do with the calorie density and the volume of food and not a specific type as far as healthy people ar concerned. Even for people with medical restrictions it is usually not difficult to get full, unless they are picky eaters. I have food restrictions…

Gaining muscle while eating at a deficit is apart from a few oz of beiginner's gain impossible. You can't make something ( muscle ) out of nothing ( deficit ).

That is pretty much what I do. I prepare vegetables with let's say 70 - 100gr of chicken and then add my standard size of either 50gr of originally uncooked rice or 100gr of uncooked pasta. I don't think I have ever been at 300 calories, but 350 is very doable, especially in my case since I don't snack and don't like…

I only eat what I want and have lost 65 plus pounds. I also don't exercise more so I can eat more, which of course is a personal choice. You have to figure out what works for you, modify if it doesn't , because just because something might work for me is no promise that it will work for you. Good Luck !

Don't worry. It it hard to imagine that you ate 24 500 extra calories ONTOP of your maintenance to really gain seven pounds. It is a combination of different food ( especially carbs, if before you ate low carb ), more salt, maybe a few drinks you usually would not have, maybe some activities that caused your body to hold…

Maybe the words " picky & judgy " are a bit strong, but I also think that the OP is just fine with what she does. Especially since she did not mention any " problem at hand " that might have to do with logging and only asked if what she did made sense and if she did something wrong.

I don't worry all that much. I weigh all food I prepare myself ( which is 90 plus % ) and if on occasion I pull something down from the data base and it shows up in oz or cups, I don't mind. I know I am staying within my calories, I have lost enough weight ( 65 plus pounds ) to not have a reason to complain, eat a healthy…

I can't relate to " clean " eating, because I have no idea what it means. The same is true for what is called the Paleo diet. Coming from a " cook & eat at home " culture and having lived in similar countries all my life, I have eaten all my life home cooked, all natural, whole foods that are not industrially processed or…

Peanuts are not part of the nut family. They are a species in the family Fabaceae (commonly known as the bean, pea or legume family) and have nothing in common with nuts.

What you did is great and the right thing, but it is not a cleanse. It is just avoiding trigger foods that lead you to overeat. I don't like anything sweet, but used to adore anything with starch. I gained almost 80 pounds with a lot of " selfpity eating " related to loss, cancer and other health problems. I got fat on…

You are right; beef adds protein. However the mix of rice & beans also makes a complete protein. This would make the recipe a vegetarian one....:o).

0 It's also not Mexican, but I guess it must have a name....:o).

I love beets. I boil them and eat them. I forgot; before I eat them , I peel them. I agree with the poster who said life is to short to cook and hide foods in dishes that certain people don't like. I also love cauliflower, but never would make cauliflower rice or pizza crust.

I wonder how you do the thing with the eggs ? On average one egg has 70 calories just plain boiled. That's 140 for two, plus the Laughing Cow..... Can't quite understand how that adds up to 105-110 calories.

You can't compare counting cals to low carb. It's like comparing apples and oranges. One is a weight loss method and the other is a dietary lifestyle choice that deals with general nutrition and health, but not with weight loss. If you want to lose you have to eat at some deficit and knowing how much to eat means counting…

Most people are told by MFP they should eat 1200 calories, because they input as a weight loss goal two pounds a week. Unless people are very overweight that is too much and difficult to sustain, because for most people 1200 calories are not enough to maintain energy and stay healthy. I suggest people should figure out…

With all due respect, your insurance should get rid of their nutritionist. If a person eats to little it means they are in caloric deficit and lose weight. Some people lose faster and some people slower, but everyone in deficit loses. It is science that applies to everyone everywhere....no exceptions.

You think you are starving yourself due to increases energy output, but you are still eating more than you burn. This can easily happen by snacking or constant grazing and you are not aware of it. You are just plain eating too much high calorie food, because there is no way to eat under in calories and not lose, even if it…

I am 4' 10.5 " and 30 years older than you and have discovered that being hungry for me is partly ( and sometimes a BIG part) psychological, which means that I get " hungry " just because I can have more calories. A more important point for me is; and I have known this for 25-30 years, that if I eat simple carbs, I usually…

Breakfast is a personal choice, nothing more. It does not " jump start " one's metabolism every morning, it does not provide extra energy, it's just a nice ( or often hurried ) meal if people prefer. Meal frequency is a personal choice. I ate breakfast ( and did not like it ) for 65 years, because supposedly it was " the…

Maybe we need to re-formulate the statement a bit and say that " the average person does better when it comes to losing weight with a caloric deficit than with increased exercise ". The average person ( according to the WHO ) in the US does not exercise and even those who do, often don't exercise enough to make a big…

Coca Cola has over the last five years lost almost 15 % of their revenue world wide from the sale of all kinds of soft drinks. It would seem to me that they would do just about anything to boost their sales, or at least keep from them falling any further. That would probably also include the support of seemingly legitimate…

Well, I am a non-native speaker of English and when someone says that they buy nothing in a bag or box, it obviously does not mean the same to me. We have no bulk bins in super markets ( the law wants to avoid that people can touch the stuff with unclean hands and this way contaminate the food ) and even if I buy bulk…

Because of my age and height I eat 1200 calories a day to lose .5 pounds a week and log the fruit I eat almost every day. It usually adds up to 200 calories and is an amount that for me makes a difference, because if I would just eat fruit and not log it I might easily get to 1400 calories and at that point I won't lose (…

Maybe this idea is far-fetched, but it comes from a desire to help you in what is no doubt a very difficult situation. Do you have someone who could spend 5-10 minutes ( when needed ) to measure and weigh your food into portion containers ? This is what someone did for me a few month ago after I had two heart attacks ( the…
