  • That sounds awful. Now, maybe there is something up with you indicating you need to see a doctor (and it needs to be a different doctor than the one you've been seeing-- a good doctor should LISTEN to their patient's concerns and make an effort to understand and help). But: what do you eat for breakfast and lunch? Do those…
  • I would think 4 months or so? I went from 116 to 105 in 4 months, but I was not trying to lose the weight quickly because I'm small and my calorie allowance would have been impossibly low if I'd lost any faster than 0.5 lb a week. Others who have mentioned their timeframes sound reasonable to me.
  • The calories per day those calculators gave you sound pretty accurate to me. Even if eating more causes you to lose weight more slowly, it's probably better in the long run because the higher amount is more sustainable over the long term. It looks like, with the goal you've set for yourself, you have a ways to go so…
  • Glad to hear others have this problem. I've always had the tendency to get headaches from consuming more sugar than normal, so this isn't new, but I'm kind of unpleasantly surprised by how much more frequently it's happening after months of being accustomed to a fairly low sugar diet. Grr, crappy store that didn't have the…
  • Nope, I'm not.
  • When I was losing weight, I decreased the amount I drank quite a bit. I think I gained a lot of the 11 lbs I lost, in the first place, by having too much wine! I would still have a small glass of wine once or twice a week and half a bottle of beer once or twice a week, but only on days when I had exercised enough to be…

  • I found that happened to me, too. Except my sudden drops were more like a pound (or occasionally a bit more or less). I was trying to lose 0.5 lb a week. And I also noticed that sometimes the most dramatic drops were a day or two after overeating!
  • I used to be a lot less fit than my fiance. He's a naturally thin person with nice muscles (developed from years of building houses, though he has more sedentary work now). I got sick of being fattish and lost weight and got to exercising a lot more. Now, I think I might be fitter in terms of cardio since I garden, run,…
  • How interesting! I frequently temper eggs if I'm making custards or something but hadn't thought of this. I once tried to add whey protein to my cream of wheat on the stove, and it made the grossest clumpy goopy mess-- I felt guilty putting the food in the compost, but I wasn't desperate enough to eat it in that…
  • Do you have a Windows phone? I do too, and if I have to use my phone to log, I go online-- the app is completely dysfunctional.
  • Some very yummy ideas here! I need to try and get more protein but I don't always feel like having a breakfast food I can eat with whey protein in it. Especially as we're getting into iced coffee season, I will be keeping these ideas in mind!
  • I think if you want to try and lose 2 lb a week, and you exercise as much as you do, a 1610 cal/day diet is very realistic. Exercising will add calories for you to eat back, so you'll no longer need to restrict your intake as much as you do when you're "successfully dieting." One very important point I want to make is: try…
  • I'm 5'1" and my goal weight is 105. I have a small to medium frame. Currently I am just above 104 and I do like how I look, but that is a little lighter than I meant to get. Maybe that's OK, as long as I don't go much below 104-- that would be too thin for my taste.
  • I've been what I call "pear-shaped" since I was 18-- I got very thin, then very plump, my first year of college, and have been varying degrees of plump from then until recently, when I finally decided enough was enough and lost around 12 pounds. I have fluctuated over the years (I'm 27) but have always carried most of the…
  • Everyone in the thread dealing with eating disorders-- please have a look at this website: http://www.youreatopia.com/ Especially this article, for the OP in particular: http://www.youreatopia.com/blog/2011/9/14/i-need-how-many-calories.html That website is extremely intelligent, informative, and meant to help people in…
  • I've been doing this for the past 3 weeks or so. I hit my goal weight yesterday, after slowly increasing calories from my "lose 0.5 lb/week" amount for a few weeks. I started by raising my calories from 1360 to 1400, stayed there for a week or two, then raised them again to 1500, where I've been for a week and a half. My…
  • Oh yes, definitely use protein powder if you are lifting and not getting enough protein in your daily diet. I always choose the natural, unflavored whey protein powders. I like to mix it with yogurt, berries, coconut, etc. for breakfast, so flavored is not my thing at all. If you're looking for organic, super-high-quality…
  • I think calorie counting is an excellent learning tool that some of us need for a while, or maybe forever for some. I personally think that once one is thoroughly used to the amounts of foods one can eat to maintain their weight, it is safe to stop counting. After a while, you get so used to the quantities of the foods you…
  • I don't hate them. I use various supplements when I feel I need them-- just not the fad diet weight loss kind. I take vitamins and minerals and herbs if I feel I need to. For example, I take calcium for part of each month because it reduces the severity of my PMS; I take vitamin D in winter because it helps me not be…
  • The carrot cake is truly astonishing! Yuck! And my mom is one of the very thin, small women, and always has been. I believe from when she was young (in the '60's) to about the early '90's, she always wore a size 6. Starting in the '90's sometime, she started having to get smaller and smaller clothing sizes; now she often…
  • @ chel_8785: Sometimes it takes a few days to see any weight loss. If you have a salad, search the food database for each vegetable/ingredient and add each one separately; look for entries without an asterisk in front of them as the ones with an asterisk have been added by another user and sometimes the calories are wrong.…
  • I adore carrot cake too. I don't know why the recipes for it call for so much oil, though-- it's not necessary. The next time you make it (if you do) try cutting the amount of oil/butter in half or less and adding a bunch of extra grated carrot (like 1.5 times what the recipe calls for). Even yummier than the original, and…
  • Can you eat dairy? If so, I'd suggest getting some full-fat Greek yogurt. It is amazingly delicious, very high in fat and protein, and super filling.
  • Can't see the image.
  • I recently came across this amazing website: http://www.youreatopia.com/blog/2011/9/14/i-need-how-many-calories.htm I haven't had an ED myself but I have a friend who does/has. I think this website ^ is really excellent. Since you have been in a treatment program for a few years, you may know of that website or the…
  • I mix it with yogurt and some other things as my breakfast. I don't have to taste it or feel the weird texture that way. I'd recommend getting a completely unflavored one; that way you can put it in yogurt or smoothies or even in baked goods. Often the flavored and/or sweetened whey proteins just taste nasty.
  • Thanks! Seems to me that you're at a fine weight for your height now-- are you looking to reduce body fat and look fitter? Because if those are your goals, I think you'd get the results you want without needing to lose a lot more weight if you start weight training. :)
  • If you post your stats people will be able to help out more-- your height, current weight, and your daily calorie goal/exercise routine. From your profile pic, you look very thin already. To me you look like you definitely don't need to lose any more weight!!
  • I've sort of been moving to the weekly calorie budget approach as I get close to maintaining. I'm consistently 1/2 pound above my goal weight, and I would like to be at or 1/2 pound UNDER my goal weight. I've been eating pretty much at my maintenance level for the last couple weeks, some days under my calorie goal (which…
