  • Along with everything else (yes, super-frustrating) is the realization that sometimes our bodies have a setpoint that might be higher than we'd want to weigh but it's where we're "meant" to be. If you do want to reduce, keeping on at a deficit should eventually free up some more weight. But I hear your anguish!
  • How long have you been stuck? Are you drinking enough or might you be constipated? Sometimes one or the other of those problems gets resolved and it suddenly comes off in a larger increment. How close are you to goal? I will trust that your logging is accurate; I've been stuck myself from time to time, sometimes for more…
  • I make my own cauliflower crust (bought one once and it was awful) or I use flatbread. Tonight I'm going to cut a huge eggplant into disks and make "pizza" on those.
  • My personal trainer switched me to the elliptical from the treadmill because I was walking so much anyway and she didn't like the repeated pounding on the feet and shins you get with the treadmill. I then switched to an arc trainer because the elliptical has too big a tread for me at 5'0" even at the shortest setting. It's…
  • I make a mixture that's half bulgur and half steel-cut oatmeal. It takes me forever to cook it, but it lasts for 16 days since I only have 1/2 cup each day. I put in lots of cinnamon, 2 tbsp of a nuts and dried berries mixture, and kefir or plain nonfat Greek yogurt or original almondmilk. OR plain nonfat Greek yogurt and…
  • I had four weeks in a row where I went down 0.2 lbs each week. I found it highly frustrating. But then it also occurred to me that I was constipated (drinking 60-72 oz water daily, taking Metamucil daily, etc, measuring and logging everything faithfully, but restricting calories does do this for me) and I dealt with that…
  • I have a Gazelle Edge arc trainer. Same principle as an elliptical but smaller footprint (it fits in my room and I can watch television or listen to music while I'm on it) and shorter stride for people like me who are on the shorter side. Since it's mechanical and not electrical, it's pretty quiet.
  • I can't take the final step to being vegan because I admit that I can't give up my yogurt. Never keep milk in the house, only get cheese for recipes for the most part, really don't eat eggs that much, but I do like my yogurt with fruit in it every day. But I'm not doing what I do for political reasons but for other reasons…
  • I'm 5'0" and my TDEE is 1440. I seldom get that high, though, which allows for occasional meals out with friends. My reduction calories were 1200 and I stayed in the 1000-1100 range during that period; now I don't usually make it to 1300 in a normal day where I'm just eating three meals on my own. This includes an evening…
  • I admire you who are able to follow a vegan diet. I just haven't been able to do it. I have kefir with my oatmeal in the morning and Greek yogurt with fruit some time during the day, and I just don't seem to be able to give those up. And then baking for my vegan boyfriend was just so hard, with the special sugars and…
  • You do lose muscle tone quickly, BUT it comes back very fast, too, once you are able to start working out again. Maybe there are some isometrics or other types of exercise that you can do that won't interfere with your medical procedure. But even if not, two weeks isn't that terribly long a break that you're going to sink…
  • I still weigh in every Friday to keep on top of what's happening to me. I don't log all my food every single day any more - too much traveling or eating out that I can only estimate now that it's summer. But logging when I can keeps me mindful of what I eat and weighing weekly keeps me from creeping back up again. I will…
  • I nuke them and eat them as a main dish with a green side salad. Or I roast them in the oven along with other things like eggplant and Brussels sprouts and then serve them with balsamic vinegar on top.
  • Wow, came back after only a brief time and found all of these answers! Thank you all! I do LOVE Indian cooking and have done a fair amount of it in recent years, but my cooking has been more limited since embarking on this diet because I'm counting the calories of everything I make/eat. The tip about using it IN the…
  • I just discovered TABATA this morning and am planning to start doing it on alternate days. I otherwise don't do any HITT, but I think I can sustain 20 seconds of anything.
  • If it's in a fitness room in the building where you live or work and there's no formal gym or staff, why don't you take a picture of it and post it for us to see?
  • Things to think about - thank you all!
  • I got down to 97 at one point and held there for 6 months because I could - looked pretty awful in some areas and my kids wanted to do an intervention, but - still had belly, butt, hips. I look at my family and see thunderthighs etc. I talk to my personal trainer and she said so many people get discouraged and stop working…
  • I have been maintaining for two weeks now, too. The calorie limit in the reduction phase was 1200 (that's as low as MFP will go, so only lost 1/2 pound per week on the average) and my TDEE (averaged from five different sites, all pretty close to the same) is 1440 before activity. So I added 100 calories per day for this…
  • One week today in maintenance. Added 100 calories to each of the past seven days and was still down one pound. I will stay at this level for another week to make sure, though, before I add another 100 calories. Continuing my level of physical activity and water, and continuing to log all on MFP. Being accountable to myself…
  • I made a list of my favorite "additives" - various nuts, fruits, granola, etc - things that I could consider 'treats' that are in the 50 to 200 calorie range. Then I prelog my food for the day and put in the additives (as part of a meal or as a snack) to get up to my calorie limit for the day.
  • I keep it because I have grandchildren, but I eat almond butter myself.
  • 1/2 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt, 1 portion fruit (berries or banana), cinnamon, 2 tbsp granola. 16 oz glass water with lemon in it.
  • Smaller amounts. I am a real sucker for nuts - alone (I eat up all my baking nuts and have to buy more!) or in granola or trail mix. Now I program them into my daily plan, in small measured quantities with known calorie counts.
  • Just start all over again without looking backwards - today is a new day with no calories in it yet - get back to logging and just start TODAY. I am an emotional eater as well, but I've been analyzing and working on that on the side (with the help of a therapist at one point) so as not to derail myself. Good luck!
  • The prelogging so as to save calories for evening does help. The crafting as ellidahl mentioned works for me. And my most effective strategy is to brush my teeth and rinse after dinner, and then I CAN'T eat any more!
  • I figured out what my maintenance calories would be at my GOAL weight and am eating less than that amount every day. Still lose faster in the beginning than at the end because the deficit is less as you go along, but I don't have to adjust or risk overeating as I get closer to the goal because I'm still eating less than I…
  • I log the whole day first thing in the morning. It helps me know if I have enough calories for a treat, how many I can reserve if I'm going out for lunch or dinner that day, and things of that nature. The only thing I don't pre-log is exercise, since that shows up right away on your home page. I wait till the end of the…
  • No, you can't spot-reduce (speaking specifically of fat), but you can tighten skin and strengthen muscles and thus pull in areas that might sag AFTER the fat has been lost. I do a lot of Pilates, which includes focusing on abs, glutes, and obliques. This last is how I rediscovered a waistline and got rid of love handles.…
  • You likely ate all that (spread out over a week) but then not so much else because you weren't really hungry for your "normal" food. So you probably ate fewer calories than you've been doing while on the plan other than this massive pig-out. I have learned that a one-day binge usually doesn't contribute anything to my…
