Here's an article on runner's itch: http://liverunloveyoga.com/2011/10/27/runners-itch-what-causes-those-itchy-legs/ If your blotches turn into itchy patches that last for up to a few days, it could be exercise-induced vasculitis.

My grade school went from grades 1-8, and then high school from grades 9-12 was a in different building in a different city, so 8th-grade graduation was a big deal (1989). I think it's different in areas that have middle schools.

My personal experience with tattoos is that they're an attention-whoring technique. Look at me! Look at how artistic/badass/romantic/philosophical/nerdy/sentimental/etc I am! LOOK AT ME, DAMMIT! If you express this to anyone they say, "I got this tattoo for me, not to impress anybody else." Well, if that were true, then it…

There's an entry for "water aerobics" that will probably suit your needs.

They have no idea that your face is tomato-red because of a workout and think you might be having a heart attack or something. I, too, have had strangers offer to get me medical assistance. I even had an instructor come up to me in the middle of class and (quietly, politely) suggest that maybe I should dial back the…

It takes a little bit of practice but it's not really hard to do at all, and even your lumpy, misshapen practice pieces taste delicious :) The Whole Foods markets near me frequently has sashimi-grade salmon and tuna. It's enough time and work that I rarely bother making my own if it's only for me and DH, but it's pretty…

I'm completely serious. It is _SO_ incredibly much easier to make a temporary craving go away through force of will and continue on my day than it is to have completely unsatisfying amounts of calorie-dense foods. 150 calories of chocolate-chip banana bread is just a tease. There's no demonization of "unhealthy" food here.…

Ignore all the people who will say, "just eat some". Eating "some" will make you want more. Then you'll either eat more and be sad/mad/annoyed about it, or you'll obsess about the banana bread for as long as it exists. You'll eat more nutritious food as a substitute for the banana bread you want, but then you'll eat too…

Grocery store tomatoes are bred and handled for color and ability to stand up to shipping, not so much for taste. That's why they're often bland and watery. http://www.exploratorium.edu/theworld/gm/taste.html

It's actually really easy on the knees; very low impact. When I lived in Philly, I spent hours skating the awesome paved trails along Kelly Drive. I miss that. It's not as much fun in the desert.

This is the sweetest thread I've ever seen on MFP. It's nice to see you all keeping such great attitudes while dealing with pre-wedding and family-merging stress.

I'm hypo, but tested negative for celiac disease, so I haven't really cut anything out and I've been fine. Calories in, calories out. Edited to add: If normal calorie restriction doesn't work for you after a few weeks, try something else - everyone is different.

...? I think you're inferring a lot of intention and meaning that isn't there. Her "journey", as she described it, involves losing 20lbs in 4 weeks. On of the common-use definitions for "death march", is "a project where the members feel it is destined to fail, or requires a stretch of unsustainable overwork."…

That's not a journey, that's a death march.

HRMs aren't ideal for fitness classes because they're not steady-state cardio, but they're probably the best you can do. Absent an HRM, you could probably use on of the calisthenics entries for Body Attack.
-
Zumba isn't a perfect application for heart rate monitors because the cardio isn't steady-state, but I would still trust an HRM over could on the Wii by a LARGE margin. Hell, you could sit perfectly still except for waving the Wii controller like a maniac for an hour and get a high calorie count. I work as hard or harder…

6 weeks of gradual but steady gains at 1600 cals/day was enough evidence for me. I've been maintaining at 1450 now for almost 2 years. I've more or less accepted my fate. (Sometimes resentfully. Stupid Girl Scout cookie season grumble grumble. 2 Samoas is not a serving ;) )
-
Similarly, I went from 1200 to 1450 to lose .5 lbs/week toward the end. Less similarly, I stopped losing right around my goal weight, and when I tried adding more calories into my diet, I started gaining again. So, my body has found its maintenance level. It's 1450. That pretty much sucks, btw :)

Don't forget... since this is about health and not vanity, cardiovascular exercise has a ton of benefits other than just weight control. http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-living/fitness/in-depth/aerobic-exercise/art-20045541?pg=2 Keep it up :)

Interesting to read this. There are 4 standing desks at my workplace. One gets used all the time. One, the guy just sits in a tall chair all the time. To be fair, he's like 6'5", so he might just be much more comfortable at a very tall desk. Two were abandoned by the people who requested them - they actually moved cubicles…

I probably have salads as a meals 6x per week. They range from 150 calories to 400. They're delicious, filling, and nutritionally dense. If your idea of a salad requires that it be 800 calories, then I think there's a problem with your perception; not with salads...

Do NOT call it pasta. It is a perfectly serviceable 0 calorie food that works well in some dishes, especially asian noodle dishes or anything where the noodle is not supposed to be the star of the show. Pad thai and shiritaki puttanesca are my two favorite uses. Do NOT treat it like traditional pasta, or you will be sadly…

Don't panic. Hashimoto's can mean practically nothing to your weight loss (or life). I was diagnosed with Hashi's about 2 years ago after my OB/GYN noticed that my thyroid was enlarged. That and slightly high TSH levels are the only symptoms I have. I feel fine. I take thyroid support vitamins twice daily, but that's it.…

That's because the body wasn't designed; it evolved. The diet problems you're describing weren't selected out of the population (and won't be) because they don't kill off individuals before they're able to reproduce. Any mutations that occur that would potentially change the way our bodies behave in that way don't really…
