This is the definition of ketosis: ke·to·sis/kēˈtōsis/ noun Medicine noun: ketosis 1. a condition characterized by raised levels of ketone bodies in the body, associated with abnormal fat metabolism and diabetes mellitus or starvation. 2. accumulation of excessive amounts of ketone bodies in body tissues and fluids,…

Honey and sugar are basically the same thing, just made differently. Both have the same amount of carbs, both have the same amount of sugars, although table sugar has a few more calories (in large quantities). One is not fundamentally better than the other. Choose whichever one you prefer.

I'd go with Gorilla glue. My DH uses it in his wood shop all the time for adhering wood together in situations that need something a bit stronger than wood glue. Glue guns come in different temperatures, and if you used a low temperature glue gun, the glue just does not hold. The higher the temp, the better the hold.…

"Starvation mode" is a myth. The body is designed to burn fat in the event there is not enough to eat, not the muscle. It isn't going to kill itself by destroying the heart muscle (and all the rest of the muscles) to hold on to fat. The body will do what it needs to do to PRESERVE the heart muscle in order to survive. Once…

^ This. I've also eaten it in pie crust. It supposedly makes better pie crust than hydrogenated vegetable shortening. I also got a bunch of tallow with my last 1/4 beef, so I'll have to learn how to render it, if it needs rendering. I don't really know what to do with it, as I've never used it before.

It's okay. The tinfoil-hat-wearing people love to trot out the old "starvation mode" myth that was disproved over 60 years ago, but like a zombie, just won't die. How much do you think people that have had *successful* weight loss surgery are eating? Certainly nowhere near 1000 calories, much less over that. As long as…

I started at 267. Been there most of my adult life. I don't have any pictures, but then, I don't look any different, either, after a 23 lb. loss. It will take another 20-30 pounds gone before anybody can tell. The only difference I can feel is that I'm squishier. The fat was really dense, and now it's becoming less packed.

Plastic surgery. Stretch marks are scar tissue. The underlying structures of the skin have torn, leaving the marks. Nothing will fade them except time, when they'll turn white from having been a reddish purple color. No creams, oils or any other magical concoction will get rid of them. They are permanent. Don't fall for…

I just took that little quiz (had to make up a place in the UK to be from, though), and it turns out I think I'm thinner than I actually am! Now, there's MY bummer for the day! :-(

The only thing about this that bothers me are foods that have "Gluten Free" on the label, when it's a food that doesn't contain gluten, anyway, like parmesan cheese, or rice.

Have you ever actually read one of those diets? They usually give you a week's worth of meal plans. They're healthy meals, just like you're supposed to eat, with lean meats, fruits and veggies, and whole grains. They may contain more of a certain kind of food (maybe all orange veggies), or maybe a specific way to prepare…

You don't want to work out after eating anything significant because blood flow gets diverted to the digestive system, and isn't as readily available for muscle use. That's the basis behind the old "don't swim for an hour after eating" thing. You can do it, it just may cause cramping. Eating a small amount shouldn't cause…

I know we speak the same language, but I can't understand a word you're saying. O_o

Hey! I didn't know you could edit entries! Thanks for posting that! Too many incorrect ones out there.

Good question. The only time I get "sort by" is with the foods I've logged in the past that pop up on my own list on one of the tabs. (recent, frequent, my foods, meals, recipes)

The only way you would be putting on weight that way is if you're still eating too many calories, or if you're still eating too many carbs. Are you eating more fruit than veggies? Fruits are high in carbs because they're loaded with sugar. Remember, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash are all fruits. If it has seeds in it, it's a…

Starving after lunch. Wanted a Dairy Queen ice cream cone. Came home, and ate a stick of light string cheese, instead. Only 50 calories, less than 1gm carbs (on a very low carb eating regimen) and 7gm protein. Took the edge off. Still want the cone, but not as bad, so I can make it the rest of the day without caving. Also…

What I've done in the past is not worry about working out, or at least not at first. You will lose weight even if you never get off the couch just by eating less. Once the weight comes off, or a good portion of it (enough so you don't feel "too heavy"), then you can start adding exercise by simply walking. Even 15 minutes…

Easy. I had lost 60 lbs. at one time, but gained it all back and then some. And NO! I was NOT doing something "unhealthy", "unsustainable", or any other judgmental crap most of you are spewing when you have no freaking clue! (Thank you, OP, for NOT being judgmental.) So, I'm back on the bandwagon. Yes, I'm fat. But,…

False. Actually, a calorie is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one gram of water one degree Celsius. Energy is not a solid object. The original method used to determine the number of calories in a given food directly measured the energy it produced. The food was placed in a sealed container…

I use my Fitbit to track my walking steps, and that links to MFP. 6 miles at 3mph burns about 500 calories, so you'd need to walk 12 miles per day to do that. That's about 3 hours of walking...IF you can keep up that pace for that long.

Of course they had shorter lifespans! They didn't have antibiotics, vaccinations, sanitation or medical science to help them with illnesses and injuries! A simple broken bone could kill a person back then because infection would set in. That's what killed King Tut! A broken leg! People had a shorter lifespan in the Middle…

Wow! He was just here in MN at Hazelton for rehab maintenance. My SIL and BIL saw him 2 weeks ago at the Dairy Queen in their town where Hazelton is located. Severe depression as of late. Probably due to his show having been cancelled back in May.

First of all, don't believe the people that start screaming "starvation mode". That is a myth. If starvation mode was real (burning only muscle, hanging on to fat by conserving every calorie ingested), then there would be no such thing as starvation in the world. Tell that to the people of Africa, India, and those that…

Not sure if anybody answered you, but "bump" is what you put into a reply to bump the thread to the top of a forum list so it doesn't get lost in the hundreds of other threads. This is done particularly if you need an answer to something important. As for an answer to the OP: I can't quite remember. I used to be. I used to…

Great outlook! As they say, life is that thing which happens to us while we're busy making other plans. A day here and there isn't a failure. Sometimes you're stuck in a situation where you don't have a choice but to eat outside your box. I don't like to call it "cheating" because that implies it's a game that can end in a…

The Norwegians just celebrated Syttende Mai on May 17th. That's their independence day from Sweden, and Sweden celebrated its independence day (flag day) on June 6th. It's called Svenska flaggans dag, or Swedish Flag Day, but is a public holiday, and not celebrated with huge events.

Coffee is liquid, so you can count it as such. The whole "diuretic" effect is old, outdated science. The reason for the "8 glasses a day" thing is because people generally don't drink enough or listen to their body's thirst cues, so they give you a guideline. It's not carved in stone. I did discover the other day that the…

Been working on the same 110 (or so) pounds for several years. Currently sitting with about 12-13 of them gone. First grandchild on the way is my motivation. Love sarcasm, and nerds rule!
