  • A lot of the answer has to do with your age and size of your body frame. I'm 5'3", but I'm forty two, so rather than a goal weight of 125, which would be optimal if I were 25 years old, my doctor gave me a goal weight of 140-145 or so, to allow for the fact that my body is very different now than it was twenty years ago.…
  • That happened to me - in fact it happens more often than I like to admit, but I sort of force myself to log it, even if it's the next day when I do so. I sort of follow the 'act now, motivation will follow' adage, and so far it's worked. maybe there's some kind of trigger that can do the same for you.
  • my mother just 'fed' me - she told me I make the best sandwiches in the world and that she loves all I do for her.
  • There's an up side to this, believe it or not - for one thing, it isn't ten pm, and you're not ready to climb in bed. I'm guessing you haven't had dinner yet, either. Eat something very calorie.fat light, and do ten extra minutes of exercise, then be done with it, go to sleep happy.
  • Buy a brita filter and drink tap water. At the very least, you don't use up so many bottles.
  • @juliana1977: You make a good point - you didn't offend me or anything, I didn't take it the wrong way. I'm not looking for a reason to go lightly on myself, but sometimes it's just hard, and I'm not accustomed to doing what's hard. As for staying on track... @steffilily: I like your idea! I'm am going to reward myself by…
  • My trigger is anything crunchy and salty. I'm a sucker for goldfish, doritos, potato chips, corn chips and don't even get me started on dip (salsa con queso, anyone?) I decided to buy a snack I don't altogether care for - Triscuit Thin Crisps. After one or two, I've really had enough. If I just have to have dip I go with…
  • Karate + Punching bag = Good Will Towards All It worked for me back when I was in retail.
  • It's making me accountable for everything I eat - especially when I cheat a little bit! I'm relearning how to eat. I've gone back to the way my grandmother use to make meals: small meat, large vegetable, small starch, add beverage or your choice. Before MFP, I couldn't put all the pieces together: calories in, grams of fat…
  • There no such thing as spot reduction when you're trying to reduce fat. THe only way to spotlight your tummy is to do core work with pilates or crunches or yoga. Stomach fat is the absolute hardest to work off so that means lots and lots of cardio. And just to ease your mind, if your tummy circumference is smaller than…
  • From what I've been told, ten pounds equals about one clothing size - gain ten pounds, go up a size, lose ten pounds, go down a size. It may be that your clothes are fitting better because you're smaller all over. It will take some time for your body to firm up. Don't get discouraged. Every time you have to roll up a…
  • Count me in. I've been waiting years for this: SW: 207 GW: 140 Exercise program(s) you're doing: Billy Blanks Tae Bo; Walking; Weight lifting; Yoga Costume you'd like to be able to wear by Halloween: Officer Aeryn Sun (Peacekeeper)
  • 1. Pick quality sweets, for ex. Godiva instead of Hershey, or get your next danish from a bakery, not Dolly Madison at the supermarket. 2. Only eat a couple of bites. Take your time and savor the flavor. Train yourself to better quality stuff and you'll notice not only that you're eating less, but that you're getting more…
  • If you're not a stickler for 'breakfast' foods, a friend of mine swears by chicken, broccoli and rice in the morning for breakfast before a serious workout.
  • I guess it depends on my mood: Call Me by Blondie. Pony by Ginuwine. Baila Baila by Chayanne La Tortura and Loca by Shakira and Alejandro Sanz.
  • This link should help - it's a DIY training program for a 5k. 8 Weeks to Your First 5-K (Prevention Magazine): http://www.prevention.com/health/fitness/walking/fitness-walking-goal-8-weeks-to-your-first-5-k/article/98b088dc78803110VgnVCM10000013281eac____ (Copy and paste it exactly as it is above - that line at the end is…
  • I do the same this as hummzz. I have one and move on. I have an awful sweet tooth, it would be unrealistic for me to try and just turn it off. So I feed it a little bit every so often.
  • I saw that article too. It made me a very happy camper. I'm all about the planks now. I've worked up from ten breaths to ten seconds. Pretty Impressive, I know ;)
  • Here's what someone once said to me, that worked: Act first, motivation will follow.
  • I'm so glad to read this I could faint - I've gained three pounds. Nice to know it will come back off!
  • If it is simply retained water, think about over the counter diuretics such as Furosemide. But before you do so, check with your doctor to make sure the water you're holding onto isn't related to high blood pressure or any other serious health issue. If so, s/he may prescribe prescription diuretics.
  • I've mixed it with brown rice, and I like it very much. It's got a nice rich nutty flavor to it. I won't cook rice without it nowadays. Best of all, with so much flavor, you don't need much of it on your plate!!
  • @Fieldsy: I'm going to try the fat/protein snack before bedtime. Thank you!
  • On my gosh!! I didn't expect anyone to actually see this!! This is so cool! I'm so psyched now I'm bouncing in my seat.
