You think I am personally offended? I had no idea you were so sensitive. I am not offended. I am engaging in a discussion, that for the most part has been fairly intelligent and interesting on a cold dark Wednesday. No bashing here, just some good fun.

How do you know what makes me fat or doesn't? Did I say everyone? Did I say you, in particular? I said IF I ATE there more often I would be fat. Self knowledge. I know exactly what made me fat.

Well, for gawd sake, he is a spokesperson for them - are you surprised he eats them? Let me ask you a question - ever go outside your Macros? Do you meet them each and everyday? Are you completely and totally consistent in your WOE day in and day out? To answer your question, I eat subway. Not often, but my kid loves them.…

We all see what we want to see, don't we? You choose to focus on what was reported that he eats. Chelle focuses on his last Olympic performance, and I quoted what he said. And it all fit our WOE and thinking quite well, didn't it? I think that is my point, about the all or nothing, black and white false dichotomy at work…

Obviously, it didn't have my name on it. I still don't understand what is wrong with your diary and what you eat. And why anyone should fear it. The other was a ramble in general, not specifically targeted at you. I apologize if I offended.

And I disagree. The nutritional value of food is not a myth. My god, even Michael Phelps thinks so: he says. “Now I’m eating less, but I’m getting my calories from nutrient- and protein-dense foods.” And even though he is only half the man he used to be, that has to count for something? Doesn't it?

Wow, we apparently read a different article - I will save myself the multiple cut and pastes and just end with this: "Cleaner, healthier calories are easier for your body to use as fuel, he explains. “It’s like putting higher octane fuel in a car—I run better when I eat better." Yep, he said the dreaded "C:" word! Cleaner!…

Okay, I surrender. We are all a**holes running around telling people what to do, what they do wrong and judging everyone else. You should hate and despise us. In fact, I am, at this moment, so full of self-loathing I am going to go do a body scrub, after an enema and body detox cleanse and eat my weight in Kale. And I will…

READ IT AND WEEP, BOYS! http://news.menshealth.com/michael-phelps-diet/ There is some gray area afterall!

Why do you care what I think? He reportedly eats 12,000 calories a day when training. 12,000 calories. How is he an example for anyone except an elite athlete. Do I personally think people - including athletes, are better off eating a diet of less processed, rather than more processed, whole foods? Yes. I do. But I still…

Only if you can quote me all the examples of the above. No one has been bashed on this thread with the exception of the off-putting Obamacare comment in the beginning. No cancer, no weight gain, no you don't care.

Michael Phelps can do whatever the F he wants and should. It is all about how he feels, how it effects his performance. We are not monoliths and this is not black and white. Hear, hear for the gray.

Why, I don't get it. What is wrong with the food you eat? Most of it looked just fine to me. And if you are happy with it and your weight loss, who cares? I am sorry to disappoint, but it hardly provokes fear. A false and stupid dichotomy has been created here and it is getting a bit ridiculous. And the self-righteousness…

I agree and it covers many of the misconceptions about both approaches. And how you can do both. I actually don't think they are mutually exclusive.

Buzzkill. I microwave mine. Is that high heat? And, yes, I think microwave ovens are perfectly safe. Except maybe for bacon!?!
-
Well, personally, I am thrilled. I have eaten them anyways, risk be damned, because they are part of my diet. This just lightens the load a bit more. Bacon, hot dogs, salami. I could go on.

Ha! Yeah, in comparison, I am new to this conversation on this site. But I don't consider myself new to science, nutrition, and critical thinking. I am also a skeptic and do not believe in the goodness of the free market (a little healthy paranoia has served me well over the years). Eating so-called healthy is a…

Of course everything is made up of chemicals. So are we, and everything around us. What does that have to do with it?
-
The fact you keep saying this over and over again does not make it true. I have never warned anyone of dangerous health consequences - the VAST majority of the people on this thread have not warned or scorned and most don't give a *kitten* about what other people eat. There will always be the outliers, the heretics, the…

Whoops...didn't realize he was Paleo until I went back and looked at the sight - I only read the article. I will brace myself for the sh^tstorm.

I am confused. You say she has a few extra pounds on her belly - which is perfectly normal for a 12 year old girl. Yet, she feels she has to watch what she eats? Why? And you have connected this with her comment about not liking herself, why? Also, not that abnormal for a 12 year old girl. And you want to teach her good…

I haven't got 6K posts and years on this board, but I will say a couple of things: Flaunting a McDonalds habit and love of poptarts flies in the face of everything most newbie (and old) dieters, as well as others, have learned or in the process of learning about diet, health, and nutrition. And that is exactly why it is…

Mine, as well. Science? Nope. Experience. Take it or leave it. Like IIFYM's, "clean" eaters are not 100% each and everyday. I don't see anyone asking so how many days a week do you have to FYM's to qualify? We all have goals, hopefully goals that work for us and are sustainable. If I prefer eating less processed food (and…

Before this is shut down and back to the OP: I care about the epidemic. I don't look at obese individuals and judge them. But as the employer of 50, I look at our healthcare premiums pretty closely. In fact, they keep me up at night. We saw a 50% increase this year due to excessive claims. These, unfortunately, are made by…

As with so many posts, you are right on. For someone new, who is not used to this board, or other internet forums (we all don't participate), the boards can be a rude awakening. And it can feel very negative. That is not over-sensitivity, it is the nature of this beast. What insensitivity there is, can be shared all the…

It sounds like you know yourself pretty well and have figured most of this out...including what happened and more importantly, why. Have a plan for next time, because we all know there is always a next time. Look for early warning signs and then follow the plan you have set up for yourself. You will feel better soon.

Good for them - I admire kids innate ability to know what they need. I don't encourage it enough by making them eat when they aren't hungry or things they don't want (guilty of that all the time). I DEFINITELY would not have your willpower everday though! Walking by is one thing...window shopping is a favorite pastime, but…

My only concern would be how incredibly lousy they are...especially when you live in France and could go to a Patisserie! I know, I know, what you can't have, you always want the most. My son doesn't ask for food for gifts, but his loving Grandma, ever concerned about his serious sweets deprivation, buys him a box of sugar…

SO DELICIOUS COCONUT CREAMER! It is the best and at 10 calories a Tablespoon it is calorie friendly too! I cant do heavy cream - doesn't fit in my calorie profile - plus I fast and only drink coffee in the morning so my calories have to be low. I love, love, love this creamer. Seriously try it.

Absolute and total hogwash. Just because you couldn't do it or it wasn't the right WOE for you, does not mean it either slows down your metabolism or you go into the mythical starvation mode. It is okay you didn't like it. I didn't either, but really, don't make up stuff.
