I mix 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt with 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder. Lot of protein, low in carbs, low sugar, low fat. Probably more calories that one mini chocolate bar, but it keeps me full a long time and it's delicious. There's no way I could control myself if I were near a jar of chocolates every day. I don't…

Quick-cooking whole grains like whole wheat couscous and quinoa. Tofu, veggie burgers, edamame beans. Raw snacking veggies like cucumber, snow peas, sweet peppers, fennel. Cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, low fat ricotta. Avocadoes, nuts, olives. Pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds. Low-fat milk or unsweetened non-dairy…

Any root veggies: carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes, turnip, potatoes. Cut into french fry-sized sticks, toss in sea salt and olive oil and roast in the oven on high heat. YUM! Raw: carrots, celery, cucumber, peppers, *fennel/anise* (my favourite), sugar snap peas. Usually plain or with a dip made with Greek yogurt and…

Yes. In fact, I'm sure you could go out for a meal with your friends once a week. Every week. And not ever have to worry about your maintenance. Your body averages out calories over several days. So if you have one high calorie meal one day, it'll balance itself out over the course of a week of lower calorie days. No need…

It's always best to use the raw weight before cooking. Some foods like pasta or rice get heavier as they cook because they absorb water. The longer they cook, the more water they absorb. The final weight will fluctuate based on how long the food has cooked and how much water it has absorbed. It's much more accurate to…

If you're graduating this May/June, it's unlikely you'll manage to lose 15 lbs by then. Not impossible, but unlikely. Do you want to lose fat or muscle? Losing muscle can happen faster than losing fat, but it won't make you look good. You're pretty active by the sounds of it, so keep that up. Focus on eating more healthy…

How do you feel about dairy products that aren't milk? Cheese, yogurt, etc? Vitamin C = red/yellow/orange peppers, green peppers, broccoli, guava, papaya, kiwi, snow peas

Yes, it certainly has changed a lot. I used to spend a lot of time on Queen West back in my early 20s (1999-2004) between shopping, eating at restaurants, checking out clubs, attending shows. Now, not so much. But whenever I do head that way, I always notice another storefront that is now a boring mass retailer. It sucks…

I've done some research into weight loss supplements...not really worth the money is the conclusion I've found. I use protein powder regularly, as well as a green food supplement. I don't think of these as weight loss supplements, however. They are dietary supplements. I take fish oil capsules, vitamin D, and a B-complex…

There is no reason be in a relationship with a man who makes you feel lousy most of the time. NONE. It doesn't matter if it's been 4 years or 14 years or 40 years that you have been together. He is not treating you with respect. He insults your appearance (both directly and by implication). He does not value what you do…

I crave chocolate during my time of the month, too. I don't understand folks who can just have 2 cookies, or just 1 square of chocolate. I'm not like that at all. If it's in my house, I'm going to eat the whole package. Whether I want to or not, if I've got a craving, I will eat all of it. 'Healthier' chocolate…

It's completely okay to say "that's none of your business" or "I'd rather not answer that". It IS a personal question, and no one needs to know the answer besides you and your doctor. I've had people ask me how much I've lost, which I'm happy to answer. I've never been asked directly how much I weigh, but I have mentioned…

I usually have a rice cake with 1 tbsp of peanut butter (or 2 servings, if I've got the calories for it). A mug of herbal tea to help me sleep, usually linden tea or one of the 'sleepytime' blends.

+1 I don't follow any particular diet plan. I try to eat mostly unprocessed and minimally processed whole foods: fruit, veggies, milk, cottage cheese, plain yogurt, eggs, nuts, beans, whole grains, meats, poultry, and fish. I try to limit my intake of highly processed food, fast food, refined sugar, white flour, and…

Lots of great suggestions above, but here are a few more! Try low-fat ricotta cheese if you're getting tired of cottage cheese. I love its creamy texture! Babybel Light cheese Edamame beans - These are AWESOME! They have more protein and fewer carbs than most beans and taste delicious. Per 100 gram portion: 122 cals, 5 g…

I'm an emotional eater as well. There are many of us who are. While your family and friends may not see the problem you describe, it certainly sounds like a form of disordered eating. You don't need to be morbidly obese (or stick thin) to have a problem with food. Your best course of action, as others have mentioned, is to…

I was just over 200 lbs and had been there for over a year when I realized this meant I was technically obese. I didn't think being a little overweight was anything to worry about, but I could not accept being obese. I'm happily down 22 lbs and I won't quit until I reach a 'Healthy' BMI.

Whether 129 g or 160 g, you're only looking at a 30 g difference. That's not really all that much of a difference. Some folks calculate their macros using percentages of total calories. Other folks use ratios of macronutrient to body weight. There are benefits and drawback to each method. Whichever works for you is fine.…

I had low levels of iron for a long time. Partly due to heavy periods and years of eating little or no red meat. I've never taken iron supplements, but I did make significant changes to my lifestyle in order to increase my iron levels. I went on birth control pills both for their intended purpose and to make my periods…

So long as you remain within your daily calories, having a few glasses of wine each week is not a problem whatsoever. Yes, they are pretty much 'empty' calories: wine contains no vitamins, minerals, fiber, or macronutrients, but red wine does contain some antioxidants which are good for you. I consider alcohol a 'treat'…

You look great. What a difference 30 lbs makes! Congrats of completing your first 5K and best luck on your next race. I've got a pretty similar weight loss journey. I'm 5'7" and started at 205 lbs, currently 183 lbs, goal weight 155 lbs. It's taking me longer than I hoped it would, but my body will get there eventually.

I'm a huge fan of Whey Gourmet. So many delicious flavours!!! Their 'Naturelle' line is free of artificial sweeteners, flavours, and colours. It is delicious just on its own, mixed with water. One scoop approx 120 cals, 3 g carbs, 20 g protein, 2 g fat.

If you're having foot pain it's best to see a doctor. Choosing the wrong solution may ultimately cause more problems, so I'd get a professional opinion.

My preference is low-fat milk. I put it in my coffee and use it to make homemade yogurt (which I eat every day). I love the taste of almond milk, but I prefer regular milk because it contains much more protein. Never tried coconut milk.

I've got a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder along with Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia and Social Phobia. I can't help you much with the specifics of living with Bipolar Disorder, but I can tell you that the most important thing I learned is to stop feeling bad/ashamed about having a mental illness, struggling with…

What kicked me into gear is when I realized that I wasn't simply overweight, but I was actually obese (BMI 30+). What keeps me motivated is the change I see in the mirror. Every week, I see progress and it is thrilling! My goal is to look good naked. I want to be able to look in the mirror and love the image I see…

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. My aunt's current husband (uncle, but not related to me). He really likes to hug me goodbye. He's got that look in his eyes, the one some men have when they're hugging a lady they find hot. Yeah... It makes me a little uncomfortable. And I know I'm only about 8 years younger than he is,…

There are lots of spreads that are approximately 30 cals/tbsp. -hummus -greek yogurt 'dip' -vegetable chutneys -some fruit chutneys -mustards of all kinds
