I think you folks need to take a step back and realize that you currently benefit from a healthier society. It wasn't too long ago when germs were killing people by the wagon load and life expectancy was very short as a result. Vaccines, antibiotics, an abundance of food, and advancements in modern medicine allow you to…

Yeah, look at weekly numbers more than daily numbers to get a better idea of how you're eating. If your weekly number ends up several hundred calories above your goal, then either your goal is too low or you need to adjust your eating habits.

It's a hell of a lot better than CNN or Fox News, that's for sure. NPR, Al Jazerra English, and the BBC are also good sources.

Tea is ultimately just flavored water with a few nutrients and caffeine. Drinking too much can harm you, so as always moderation is the key. It's a great way to meet your water intake goals if you have a hard time drinking plain water, but there is no such thing as "tea for weight loss."

Aside from what has already been posted, I think another problem is that people have an "all-or-nothing" mentality. Nuance or "grey area" is thrown out for paleo this, low-fat that, which leads to some truly wacky beliefs about food. For myself, I take the middle track. I consume plenty of carbs from fruits, vegetables,…

If you weigh 190lbs and you're 5'5, then your BMI is 31.6. That is in the obese range (above 30). Your goal weight of 150 is appropriate as that would put you at a BMI of 25. These are general guidelines, though, so your goal should just be an active lifestyle where you don't overeat. Since your diary is not open, we can't…

I'm a vegetarian for health and environmental reasons, so irrelevant post is irrelevant. However, "complex" calculations does not make something sentient and sure as hell doesn't put plants on the same level as most animals, which have a nervous system.

It's tempting to blame society instead of examining our own issues. The BMI model is more relevant at the population level, which is why you can have very muscular people with a BMI that indicates they are overweight or obese. However, most people are not that muscular. And when you look at the BMI of your average…

I think you mean milligrams. If you're female, then it is extremely doubtful that consuming 141% of the recommended value will cause any harm. Although it depends on your specific circumstances. If you're male, it is also doubtful, but completely unnecessary unless you have other medical problems. (I assume you mean you…

He's a troll for bringing some science into this discussion? You have a strange idea of what a troll is. Anyway, since I'm ovo-lacto vegetarian, peanut butter is a pretty important part of my diet. Definitely eat it if your diet is lacking in healthy fats or protein... and the fiber isn't too bad either. I also use Jif,…
