  • There are some established side effects. Basically it lets you "push through" hard workouts, but it also can lead to overstressing muscles and injury because of that. So, I would just advise caution.
  • I'm at 284 and I've done a combo of both cardio and weights since the beginning of time (well, since college and that seems a long time ago.) Weights build muscle which speeds up your metabolism and burns calories faster. So you need to build muscle as you're losing fat. So do both! I need to do more weights. I also see my…
  • Don't take it. Why are you taking it?
  • Oh, funny. I thought it meant "Quit F***ing Trolling"!
  • You need to take a few minutes before eating to sort out your emotions. "Why am I eating? Am I bored? Lonely? Upset? Why? Am I really hungry?" Be more conscious and mindful why you're eating. It really does help. Geneen Roth has some good books about being present around food. Check her out.
  • You end up having to add up all the ingredients individually into the whole (the "pot" if you will) and then divide calories, fat, sodium, etc. by servings. It takes a while.
  • A banana is a good half-hour meal so you don't end up getting tired. However, I would eat a more protein-laden breakfast. You're vegan, so is there a way to have a tofu scramble? Peanut butter? I've found that 3 oz. of protein (or more) and a carb for breakfast does wonders for my mood and stamina. I would eat a spinach…
  • I think it's definitely better for you and your digestion. Processed foods are notoriously low in fiber, high in sodium and lower in nutrients. However, I love a good burrito and I don't know what they put in papalote sauce -- except that it tastes just like my mom's Mexican rice (so probably plenty of sodium!) and it's so…
  • I think the OP is talking about posters that I don't really see that much, but then again I don't friend many skinny people and they don't want to friend me. (I'm on a bigger weight loss journey than they are, so I tend to think our goals would be different.) I know there are some people with Eating Disorders here. I can…
  • I wouldn't worry so much about the oil, but I would about the sodium content. That makes me retain water like the ****ens and often messes with the weight loss. Basically when someone else makes food for you, you 're at their mercy. So, yeah, you're going to have to ask someone in the cafeteria how it's prepared. I would…
  • You should be friends with me then, because I think I eat way more than that. By the way, I don't think I have any friends who eat too little. Most everyone is over 1200 a day and sensible about exercise. My diary is open, feel free to add with a message and you must like giving feedback!
  • I was eating 1200 calories (net and gross) a few weeks ago in an attempt to lose weight faster, and all I did was make myself miserable. Tired, deprived and a pain to be around and all to lose two pounds a week. So I upped my calories to about 1300-1400 net and I still lose two pounds a week and my life is much less awful.
  • Woman Within has bike shorts and leggings up to 5X. I usually wear a size 22-24, so I bought 3X and then much later found out 3X is actually 26-28. I thought I had lost so much weight! Old Navy didn't have any in my size, but I usually buy online.
  • I injured my knee a few years ago and if I have an intense week or workout it starts complaining. Take care of you knees! You're very young to have these problems, so try to not put any undue pressure or weight on them. I'm with the poster who mentioned swimming. A *great* workout and less stress on your knees. Also,…
  • I drank rose last month. Quite like it. Not a whole bottle though. I usually share it with the hubs. It's been so long between drinking that two glasses seems to be more than enough.
  • Stick with the reds. Better for you, less sugary. As gmallan suggested, you can have white wine spritzers, or you can just do shots and then club soda at the end. They are empty calories, though, but I think you already know that!
  • Like you, almost to the day, I started my weight loss journey seriously on June 18. I weighed in at 313, and apparently I had dropped a few pounds (7-10) by starting the glycemic index diet. I never weighed myself except at the doctor's office. I finally left the 300s, for the first time in at least three years, a few…
  • I've been dropped by MFPers. I'm kinda happy with the smaller circles anyway. Being fat is like being invisible -- yet not. I do recall getting disgusted looks by some people, too. (I *hated* the staring at my belly! \) But today I went to my bi monthly Whole Foods shopping trip and flirted with the burrito boy who always…
  • There is no magic formula. You simply make better food choices, limit portions and exercise. For me, I was lazy and unmotivated, so I sprung for a personal trainer to hold me accountable. I also really started looking at my food and what would help my blood sugar not spike (which had been a problem in the past). It worked.…
  • Unfortunate, reducing is about 80/20 diet and exercise. Exercise is merely the fine-tuning, but the diet is doing the heavy lifting (OK, bad pun!)
  • What most people are saying -- it takes time to build a habit. Exercise needs to be a habit and that means committing to it X times a week for at least 90 days. After 30 days it should become part of your life, but after 90 days, you're committed. Don't burn yourself out by working out too much. If you're starting, a…
  • I have chronic atrial fibrillation, so my heart monitor is usually messed up. It constantly says I'm at a 60 HR when I'm sweating like a pig and digging deep. Then when I stop exercising it goes up to 240 (I don't think either are right). I figure it must be right somewhere in the middle because I think the calorie burns…
  • Yeah, I am/was prediabetic and fruits are not the problem. In fact, it wasn't until I added more fruits and veggies to my plan this week that I finally lost those 2 pounds I've been working on for the last two weeks! I think the added fiber and water helped get rid of the water retention I was experiencing.

  • I underpronate, so I needed shoes that had good arches and accounted for that. I ended up buying the Nike Flex Run 2013 which I think are really a godsend. They're light and make my feet feel pretty good. For more on pronation, go here: http://www.runnersworld.com/running-shoes/pronation-explained?page=single
  • Sometimes we start sabotaging ourselves when things are going too well. There are a lot of books out there to read, including anything by Geneen Roth, as well as "The Heart of Addiction" by Lance Dodes. Meditation can help, so can yoga, so can medication. I'd advise you to see a therapist if you feel you are getting "out…
  • I like it better than "dieting" because this is a lifestyle change, etc. but I am actively trying to lose weight, so I figured it's more accurate. Use it!
  • I did a vacation while reducing and did really well that week. Mainly because it was an insane amount of walking.
  • I know. He's been wrong before!
  • From my original post above: If you want to eat something, eat it and move on. Don't binge, don't beat yourself up and don't question your choices. If you do any of the above, then you need to work on your relationship with food, sugar or whatever has a hold over you.
  • "Can I eat Snickers even if it fits my calories?" As I said earlier, I have some reservations about the question because I believe it leads to a binge mentality. Asking if you can have something because you think it's "bad" leads to thinking that you deserve a "treat" that you can't have normally. No, the OP didn't discuss…
