  • I don't like capris. I don't find them attractive. My wife still wears them though. _________________________________________________________________ That's funny! Once upon a time they were know as pants that are too short (floods, etc.). Then one day the women decided to give it a name and call it a style. Same with dark…
  • Yeah, I am heavier than you (currently about 270) and I total about 5 miles a day as well. My walks total up using the MFP scale at right abour 600, depending on which category I put it under. I am comfortable with that number, since I don't eat back exercise calories and am logging the walks more as an accountability…
  • Looking at just the numbers, it appears to be about 100 low. But that's a lot of calories. How far is your walk? I do 90 minutes a day at 3-3.5 mph and MFP allows me just under 600 calories (30 pounds ago, it gave me just over 600).
  • Most will steam broccolli for you without any sauces. Rice is ok in a very small portion, many offer brown rice as well. They'll probably steam chicken for you or at least just fry it with no sauces. You may pay for "complete" dishes, but they will usually accomodate you just wanting the basics.
  • Doing an online search is the best thing. Beyond the menu, they will often have a nutritional breakdown. That's the better source. For instance, at applebees there are a few items that are not on the under 550 menu that have FEWER calories than the stuff that does. Like the steak and potato salad. Tastes awesome and it's…
  • Like everyone has said, there IS a difference. Glad you can see it now. I have struggled with the same thing. What we seem to want to happen is for the struggle to be over quickly. We have become accustomed to an instant society and are more used to quick change. I like your idea of the every 10 pound photo. You are going…
  • I have either of two breakfasts. My favorite is a bowl of soup. Yes, soup. I have always been a soup junkie and I have one that I make that is a shredded chicken soup in a tomato base, loaded very heavily with 8 or 10 different vegetables and some lentils. A little on the spicy side. I make a batch once a week and portion…
  • Never. I don't cheat or do free meals because I think I would risk losing my motivation. I changed my way of eating in order to make changes. I don't feel like I am denying myself things, I feel like I am making way better choices than before. If I cheat, that tells me that there is something to cheat from. To me that's…
  • I am not a big supporter of the starvation mode stuff. I know that it's possible, but I think we can place too much emphasis on it and be worried where we don't need to be. I have seen a lot that points to it being a bigger problem for lean people than it is for people like me with a lot of body fat to burn off. Also, I…
  • I have two suggestions that help me deal with it. I like your idea of walking. I always do my evening walk after my last snack of the day (even if it's 12 or 1am - but I work odd shifts). I feel like it helps digest it so it doesn't just sit in my gut all night. Plus it does occupy my time and keeps me from another snack.…
  • DaveNix: I think you'll see results as long as you are consistently following through with change. The last thing I want to do is give advice (because lord knows I am not an expert) but the nurse today assured me that it's all about putting the right foods in your body and increasing your activity level. Levels can…
  • If I count correctly, this is in 7 months? Awesome! I hope I can see the same difference when I hit the 50 mark.
  • =================================================================================== Not a stupid question. Since I've started paying attention to labels, for some odd reason the frozen breasts always seem to have like 350+mg sodium per serving compared to the refrigerated ones which are around 75. And the frozen ones seem…
  • The George Foreman type grills are the way to go. They make plenty that have removable plates for cleaning, some you can just pop the plates in the dishwasher. You can do breasts from frozen, but chicken tenderloins (strips) are easier from a frozen state bacause of their size and thickness. Just put them in the grill for…
  • There have been some really good responses here so far. I hope that you take the time to read them and find what works for you. I just have two things for you: The advice about the "new normal" is exactly right. You can't look at your eating as a temporary change or that it is some way restricting you. Eating healthy just…
  • Isn't there a lot of sugar in Gatorade? We don't usually have it around the house, so I can't look at the label. I am probably wrong, but I always thought these drinks wren't all that healthy, especially for us folks trying to reduce calories and sugars. I don't know why I thought that, but it's always been stuck in my…
  • Yes, they gave me the list. I was just hoping that someone would add something to it that sounded better. I know I was reaching for the stars, but it was worth trying. Tea, water and jello are about the only things on there for me other than broth. I don't do sodas, apple juice I guess I could tolerate, I've never had a…
  • Thanks! All good ideas...and I appreciate the best wishes. I don't anticipate a problem. This is just one of those "Happy Birthday, you are 50, get a colonoscopy" visits. Birthdays were more fun when we were younger. Get a drivers license, be able to vite, be legal to drink. Now we get a camera inserted in us.
  • =========================================================================== Im a food addict, and now that Im almost at goal Ill have to deal with this addiction every day of my life. Im in control and not going back to that black hole I lived in . My body cant take any more abuse. If I go back, Ill get high blood pressure…
  • I have found it pretty easy to keep the logs current by using the phone app. The Android app is really simple to use and your meals can be logged in just a few seconds once you get going. I like to log everything just as I am either getting ready to eat it or cooking it. It keeps me focused on the choices that I am making.…
  • ================================================================================ Just hang in there buddy, you are doing the right thing for your well being which is all that matters. Don't assume that you are in starvation mode because it can be a bit scary to think that. Here are actually a few possibilities i have come…
  • ========================================================================================= You do seem very confused! So many issues with your post. -You can`t target your gut for weight loss, you body will chose whatever fat it wants. -4 days isn`t a significant amount of time to worry about not seeing results. -o.5lbs…
  • I love this post, though I am sure that we will see some posters disputing it. And some will have well reasoned responses. Which just adds to my confusion. I had never heard of starvation mode before I joined MFP. For the last couple of days, it has really gotten into my head and I had just about convinced myself that…
  • I walk every day for 45 minutes twice a day. I cover about 2.5 miles each time, so that's about 5 miles a day. Once or twice a week, I throw in a bonus mile or so during my lunch hour. When I started a month ago, I just did one mile in the morning and one in the evening. That's really all I do, no workouts or anything. I…

  • =============================================================================================== I had a look at your food diary, too. And I am really impressed! And it sounds delicious Because you are a large guy you are able to burn a lot with moderate strain. (Am I assuming walking right as the non-sportive strolling…
  • ============================================================================================== Quote "At first I lost weight, too. But after half an year of living with that unhealthy "diet" I reached my ideal weight and were really lean. I wanted to maintain that weight and overall body condition. So I continued the…
  • I was glad to read this post, because I have a lot of the same questions in my head. I feel like I am eating all throughout the day, just making WAY better choices than before. My usual intake is 1200-1600 calories per day and I never eat back exercise calories. I typically feel full and know that my diet is rich in…
  • OK, so I feel a little better now. It's not just me. Look at the variety of answers so far...one is even from a homicide detective and HE can't figure it out! :) I still am leaving it in the pantry but at least I know my brain didn't stop working!
  • Multiplying by the number of servings is good advice because that's what you usually do....but have you read this box? It's a bit more confusing that that. Also, I think that the number of colories does change after popping. Not because the popcorn changed, but because some of the oil or whatever is in still in the bag. I…
  • Absolutely. And I appreciate your concern. I set that as my goal, but I don't see it happening because I am sure that things will slow down by then. It's a great target for me to aim for though, so I keep it in my mind so I know where I am heading. Will I be dissapointed if it doesn't happen? Not at all, because I will…
