  • I'd be careful with this. Not because it's not a wonderful idea, but just because depending on how much weight you're actually losing your skin might change. If I were going to get another tattoo, I'd wait till I had maintained for a few months just so the changes would have stopped. I have got myself a massage for every…
  • Thanks! That's what I wound up doing. I'm sure I'll be able to do more eventually.
  • I tend to eat the same things a lot whether I'm trying to lose or not. And the thing that's most helpful to me in losing weight IS eating the same thing every day--not for life, but for a week. I cook big batches of healthy things on Sunday, portion them out, and eat them all week. Some weeks, of course, life gets in the…
  • If I crave a specific thing, I either have it or make a plan to have it soon (so I can make it fit my calories). But I sometimes get cravings for...something. Like there's some perfect food that my body and soul long for, but I don't know what it is. And no, it's not hunger. I'm not sure how to handle that. I mostly end up…
  • As of this morning, I've lost 40 pounds! And I look weird. Luckily most of the weird is invisible when I am dressed, but I do hope it all evens out soon. As someone else said, the good news is that it is fall now and getting cold here, so I can just layer up till my body makes some sense again. My arms and legs look great…
  • A pint of chubby hubby! And one of these days I'm going to run a marathon or something to earn the calories to do it guilt-free!
  • The dates got cut off, but this covers the last 90 days.
  • Depends. I don't usually have that many, but I do frequently have SOME because I like to leave room for a spontaneous splurge. If that's clearly not in the agenda? Second dinner! (I try to keep it healthy.) or if I just feel snacky, a lot of popcorn and an avocado with salt. Between the two, that gets me close to my goal.…
  • 1) the feeling of control and confidence I get from being in conscious control of my body and what goes into it. 2) the cooking! I love to cook, and this is a great excuse to try new things. 3) the whooshes!
  • 200 calories. I'm on 1200 a day, and I promised myself when I started that if anything felt bad or it just wasn't going well, 1400 would be a no-recrimination fallback point. It turns out 1200 is fine for me -- especially since I can go over it guilt-free anytime.
  • I'm on a diet. Later I will be on a lifelong maintenance plan, which I suspect I will call "paying close attention to what I eat and not falling back into bad patterns." I know everyone is all anti-diet, but really, I'm reducing my calories by quite a bit in an attempt to become thinner and healthier. I have a lot to lose,…
  • Leftover chili again! Unless I am motivated and make chicken pad Thai. I make a mean sweet potato chili, though, so I might just stick with it.
  • It really could just be fat. That's where I store it and I hate it because it looks bad AND people who have fat bellies often develop other health problems. But it's not impossible that there's a medical issue, and it can't hurt to rule it out. If you don't like your OB-GYN, find a new one and ask him/her about it. But be…
  • Maybe this is an opportunity to change your family's pattern. This is going to sound harsher than I mean it to because I do understand you're busy and kids love McDonald's, but going every week isn't the best habit to teach them. Maybe instead you could all cook something healthy together or go for a walk and have a picnic…
  • And now I'm vaguely worried I will gain three pounds overnight.
  • I was curious about this five weeks ago, so I zipped ahead and put the estimate in my food notes for give weeks in the future. It turns out the future is tomorrow, and I weigh three pounds less than the estimate. Pretty close!
  • Mason jar salads. Just google them for tips, but they're a lifesaver for me because I like to cook once a week. If I couldn't pack a salad on Sunday to eat on Friday, I'd be eating lasagna or whatever rice a day, and even though I incorporate veggies in all my recipes...mama needs greens.
  • I looked at your diary a bit, and you eat a lot of processed food. I'm not an expert on this (or anything else), but pretty much anything you buy that's microwaveable or in a can or preserved in any way is going to have a ton of sodium. It's how they preserve it. So if you want to cut out a lot of sodium, cook from…
  • Several times a week, unless I'm just not hungry. But I think of my goal as the bottom of a range, so if I'm within 200 I'm not really over it in my head. I go over my unofficial range maybe once a month.
  • This used to be a problem for me. Lately I've been cooking a ton of stuff on Sunday, then portioning it out for the week and freezing some for later. So today I will get home to find lasagna waiting for me, and if I'm not in the mood for lasagna, I have several freezer options I could choose instead. It does take some time…
  • I mostly don't, but I would if I got more intense exercise. For a while I didn't even record exercise, because I think the MFP estimates are pretty exaggerated, and I don't want to eat away my deficit while thinking I somehow burned 450 calories in half an hour. Now I'm thinking I want to track my workouts, so I'm manually…
  • Cheese. Really good, stinky cheese from the cheese shop. It's lucky it is expensive and I am poor, because I could eat cheese till it was coming out my ears. Also dip. Various kinds, but particularly mayo or cream cheese based dips. Which is weird, because mayonnaise is pretty gross to me.
  • What makes it better for you? And could I make it in my cuisinart? I love peanut butter. When I was young and on an unnecessarily restrictive diet, I used to dream if it every night. Now I don't eat it much because it's hard for me to limit my portions, but when I do have it I make my own in a food processor. It's fast,…
  • I haven't had a vacation since I joined MFP, but if I did I would log as well as possible with the understanding that life's not perfect. I'm trying to move away from thinking of food as a treat, but let's be honest. Some food IS a treat. And living on a tight budget in a small town, I get to go to really nice restaurants…
  • I'm no expert, and there's some pretty solid advice here already. I'd definitely second the "if you don't have much to lose, go slow" advice! But I am doing the 1200 a day thing. It's been a couple months now, and it's working for me. And one thing about it that's working is that I know it's in the low end of healthy, even…
  • Good for you! But honestly, I think you need more than message board advice to work this out. Can you find a dietitian? He or she could help you design a normal food plan, which will be less scary for you than winging it and will help you develop a sense of normal, healthy intake.
