  • In that case, your emphasis should probably be on cardio and supplementing with weights.
  • At 29.7, my BMI right now is just barely short of "obese." That's with approximately 15% body fat, or around 32 lbs. If I lost every bit of fat, my BMI would be 25.2 -- still in the "overweight" bracket. Needless to say, I don't intend to lose ALL my fat (I'd like to keep living, after all), so it's safe to say my goal,…
  • It depends on your goals. Each will sabotage the other to some extent (in terms of energy, that is - they will complement one another in other ways). So, if better cardio ability is your goal, do it first and then supplement with weights. If gaining strength and toning is your goal, do weights first and then cardio. Either…
  • I'm no expert, but I can address a couple items in your post at least superficially. First, yes, it's harder to build muscle on a vegetarian diet. Partly because it's difficult to get enough protein from vegetable sources, and partly because what protein you do get won't be "complete" protein, meaning you have to combine…
  • Went up a mountain trail near dusk when everyone else was coming down. I didn't actually fight a bear, but there was a tense five minutes when I thought I'd have to. Lesson learned: If you're in an unfamiliar mountain area, and all the locals are headed the same direction, follow them. ;)
  • I don't like sports, watch sports, take an interest in sports, or really even think sports are ethical if you get right down to it (so much money blown on...what, exactly, when there are real needs in the world?) And if you think there's an awkward silence when you say you don't watch sports, you should hear the silence…
  • The past two or three weeks have been goofy what with "new baby craziness," but I appear to be losing a little less than a pound a week on this system. I just wasn't sure if it was water weight, lean body mass, etc. In fact, the weight loss was one reason I posted to begin with; it just doesn't seem to add up that I'm…
  • Thank you for your reply. I'm 5' 11" tall and naturally large and muscular (BMI of 31, even with body fat in the 13% - 18% range, depending on how I calculate it) so I would expect to burn more calories than average. But the Body Media calculation seemed over the top of what I expected to find. However, if I really am…
  • Is the apostrophe in the title of this thread really intended to show possession? ;)
  • I like MyTracks by Google. It tracks by GPS and is really accurate. It tracks route, distance, average speed, maximum speed, total time, and total moving time. You can view all of this as you go along, which I use to increase my speed if I find I need to get my average up a bit.
  • I'm assuming this is for people who are underweight or who want to gain muscle, and have a hard time doing it. My brother in law is like that. He's a great guy, but it kind of makes me a little sick to watch him eat as much as he wants, of whatever he wants, as often as he wants, and stay thin as a rail....and then…
  • I'm not sure, but we supposedly taste like pork.
  • Look up Tom Venuto's "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" e-book. I found his system impractical to maintain long-term, but if you can stick to it for 60-90 days, you can get really good results. However, please note that most people find it very, very difficult to add muscle while losing fat. The body just doesn't work that…
  • Fast food is not a "cultured" sort of taste, and no, on a strictly "quality" basis, you can't compare it to what you'd get at a higher end place. With that said, a lot of fast food options still taste pretty good, and I think we all have our own little "dives" we like to take sometimes when we're in the mood for it. ;) My…
