At low intensities your body will turn to fat for energy. At higher intensities your body will prefer to use your glycogen stores. At the end of the day it is still about overall caloric burn though. When you get to those lengths does it really matter? I'm comfortable in the 7 because it hits above my knee and I don't feel any drag or anything past that. Do you actually notice a difference?

At that height/weight ratio with being above 20% body fat = you literally have no muscle. If you keep cutting down then you are just going to look like Michael Cera until your body says enough. Bulk is your only option my friend. A body recomp would take for-ev-var with those stats.

Proper shoes and knee length compression socks until your legs adjust to what you are doing. For now though it's rest, ice, and ibuprofen as you have already put yourself in a bad place.

From my own personal experience (nothing scientific) I did not notice any slow downs in the gym until I started hitting 18+ miles on my long run days and that was in the upper 30s to lower 40 miles per week.
