Agreed. I'm not arrogant enough to state that female is an offensive term, since it seems not to bother plenty of women. It does make me bow up a bit though. If you're wanting me to break my personal habits and be friendly toward you (where "you" is a random guy at the gym), starting out by calling me "a female" is not the…

I'll allow it.
-
This female also bristles at being called a "female."
-
Fixed it for you.
-
You. I like you. Edited to add: Personally I would vote for interpretive dance.
-
I'm a non-friendly female. Just in general, not only at the gym. I'm not rude, but I'm also not interested in casual chat with random gym people. And if you tell me to smile more I might cut you.* *Not srs.
-
Well I'm convinced. How do I subscribe to your newsletter?

You'll have to let me know how they are. I'm not a huge fan of coffee flavored things, but Mr. Acrylics is and he looked at them the other day and didn't end up getting any.
-
I liked this. It seemed very balanced to me.

First of all you look great! Well done. My brain caught up about 6 months after I reached my goal weight. I also didn't realize that my clothes didn't fit and were hanging off of me until a friend of mine was like "hey . . . you need new clothes. Those are huge." Don't fret yet. Give your brain some time to adjust.

I agree. I would like it if they implemented something similar here, but I doubt it would make a significant impact on the eating habits of non-calorie-counters.
-
I've never had one. I remember someone telling me that the special sauce is Thousand Island dressing, and I'm not a fan, so I've never ordered one.
-
I laughed. Anyway, agreed. It's the same as saying "eat less move more." Yes, it's true. But people still get frustrated by it because it doesn't address the reasons why they eat more and move less. That's a separate, albeit related, conversation.

I think this is the main thing people who complain about CICO don't understand. Things like health issues, TEF, etc. are still part of the CICO equation. The number MFP spits out for you might not work for you, but that doesn't mean CICO doesn't work for you. It just means you don't know all of the variables in the…

It might have been this one: http://www.yalescientific.org/2010/09/mythbusters-does-sugar-really-make-children-hyper/

That's basically what the article said. I'll have to see if I can dig it up. I *think* it was on ScienceBasedMedicine.org, but I'm not 100% sure. edited to add: Nope! But when I searched that site for "sugar rush" an article on placebo effect came up, which made me laugh. But it's not the article I was hunting. I find this…

I'm not saying it is either, at least I'm not without any evidence but a vague memory of reading about it. I have fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue and possibly some autoimmune going on, so I know what you mean about the energy. Caffeine doesn't do kitten for me either. I do find that having higher carbs helps me, but it's…
-
Same here. I have read a few articles that posit the "sugar rush" is placebo effect. I don't have any links so I can't back that up with anything.
-
I've tried it both ways and I can't tell the difference. But that's strictly anecdotal. I've never seen anyone post studies on the issue but if they have them I'd be interested. I'm not sure my personal experience means kitten, since I'm chronically ill and my illness often mimics DOMS.

I have a 7-month-old large breed puppy so I walk. A lot. We take her for an hour walk every workday and then the dog park or the beach on the weekends. Plus sometimes shorter walks to practice leash walking. It's good for me because low impact cardio is all I'm allowed to do at the moment.

:| I have no words.

@GaleHawkins so you've said, but I'm asking what makes you think that. It goes against everything I've ever heard from the biologists I know.
-
@GaleHawkins do you have any evidence that humans have "lost" the ability to eat intuitively and keep weight in a healthy range in the presence of abundant food? I wonder if we ever really had that ability or if food was just scarce and/or activity was higher before the modern age. I used to work at an aquarium and I…

I think the burn is reasonable. I used to burn that much while losing even when I was close to goal, and I always ate back every calorie and lost right on schedule. But it really doesn't matter, OP. Do it one way for a month. If you've lost as much as expected then great! Keep going. If you haven't lost as much as…

We were lucky in that my dad was a meat cutter so we usually had meat, albeit slightly expired. But I remember my entire childhood being meat, starch, vegetable. The main vegetables we had were the ones my parents grew and it was a lot of corn and green beans. We ate so many slightly expired lunch meat sandwiches with no…

Personally I feel best on moderate protein, moderate fat, higher carb. I have tried to go lower carb for months at a time and I just never really adjust. I see a significant drop in energy that just doesn't seem to improve. In addition I find myself feeling unsatisfied and deprived. Low carb advocates tell me that if I…

I can pretty much agree with this. And I would add that it's okay to have different priorities. Your time on earth is a zero sum game. Whatever time you spend doing one thing is time you take away from something else. To me the goal is to balance the most important priorities (of which overall wellness would be one, at…

I went to a party recently (which is kind of rare since I do not enjoy most of them) and most people had brought beer or liquor. There was a guy there who brought the makings for root beer floats. Not spiked or anything, just regular root beer and vanilla ice cream. He was the most popular guy in the room.

Great list of myths! There are some really good ones in there.
